More edgy than a double edge sword

I'm most comfortable with a sabre, or cut-and-thrust blade. Familiarity, is a pretty valuable attribute. I am pretty enamored of my pseudo-neo-goedendag. It's a Purple Heart 8' ultimate round staff with a flanged mace and spike bayonet on the primary end and a nobby mace head on the other end. It's over 9' total length. It works as a spear with a lot of mass driving it forward. It works as a pole-arm, and I can easily reposition my hands to strike with both ends. Also, it resolves my biggest issue with pole-arms, and that is edge alignment. My next project is a Dane/poll axe with a butt-spike. If I have to fight multiple armed opponent's, I want something with a lot of reach which can hopefully be reasonably effective at close range and on both ends. Can you show me a picture of this? That sounds awsome man

That's a great weapon, but would you carry it as an edc (like a sword/sideweapon in this scenario)?

If there are roving bands of machete bandits? Yes. Hopefully, it would also dissuade potential aggressors from risking their gizzards.

I mean most times you're not under attack, like in nordmen/frontier/18th cent. villages. Not a machete swinging man jumping out of a doorway every second. But somtimes you may encounter a brigand etc.

Brigands won't bother attacking the serfs. Most of us will be safe.

I sit by the campfire waiting and as I do I whistle.

I thought this was a Western scenario. That changes everything. Now I can include Japanese swords in my thinking.

An oooold but always funny question again: - Civilisation breakdown. - You already have your survival pack with knives, machete or axe, bow, gun (but not much ammo). - You can carry only another ca. 3-4 lb weight. - Which sword would you choose (and why)? My choice: Hanwei Tactical Katana A light TH kat (or messer), durable sandwich handle, easy to maintain, not too long, not too short, a weapon for the less skilled, I think. Wow. There are some interesting threads past the first page! I would choose the Cold Steel Hand and a half Man at Arms. Double edge gives you an another edge when you flub up one side fighting zombies with crowbars and there is no time to sharpen it. Black metal so you can move around like a ninja and not attract attention with a shiny blade. 33 inch blade so you have the reach you need to slash in the open or thrust indoors.

Sits next to the nightstand with a .45 :-P Worth every penny, I love the look of a clip-point sword.

Indeed it looks refreshingly uncivilized!

Pheew, looks like a mutated Becker BK 9. I have one of those BK-9s, I'm fairly certain this beast can snap it in half :-D

I'm not a fan of the BK-9's handle. It really needs to be textured.

not too sure if I commented on this thread yet. but I would go with a dawson wak or one of the swamp rat waki's. they offer a great size and portability. but they are also strong and can retain the edge well.

I'm not a fan of the BK-9's handle. It really needs to be textured. Lots of people replace with micarta grips, put grip tape on, or somehow give the handle surface more abrasion. Condor and Ontario offer some pretty competent alternatives to this size/purpose knife at a fair price point.
