Stormmaster, I liked Jupiter Ascending too. A big part of it for me actually wasn't the space, though that was cool, but that they spent so much time building her backstory and letting us feel like she was just a normal hate's her mundane life person. Then everything got crazy and yes space. I think that intro humanizing her really helped me invest in her character.
I was rather disappointed it flopped. Since I would have loved to see it get a sequel. It seemed like just the beginning really, and such a good set up for so much more.
*edit to add, you might be right that the modern cult movies might be the ones that rather than gain acclaim when it gets to video. Still get hate but a small loyal fan base develops.

How about cult movies you hate, Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes. You have to be drunk, high or out of your mind to watch this one. Hmmm, that is interesting. I can't think of any off the top of my head. But imagine there are plenty cult films I don't like. As seen by my list of cult movies I do like, I like a lot of movies. So I really don't keep on file in my memory the ones I hate too much.

"Cult films you hate" would be easier for a movie fan, but since I watch films mainly on dvd I don't hate films any more, I simply stop watching. So perhaps "cult films you know only 15 min. of": The English Patient, Titanic, Spiderman(s)...

Ah I remember a cult movie I don't like, and truly even actively hate. Pink Flamingos.
That is a horrifying atrocity of a film that people seem to like to show others just for the shock value of it's content. I really can't speak enough ill of it, yet there are a lot of pretentious film snobs who claim it is a masterpiece of art. Yuck, not for me it is not. I can be pretty forgiving of movies I don't like, and accept that somethings are just different tastes. But This is a movie I feel is just pure aweful pretending to be art to justify itself.

I forgot to mention..."Bram Stoker's- Dracula". Easily the best 'Dracula' movie EVER, at least in my book. I want his armor, and a replica of that SWORD! ....Chris

I didn't see Guardians of the Galaxy on the list, while not an older film, it will be ranked very high in the future.
As far as Highlander goes, it hasn't been mentioned but Highlander was directly and indirectly responsible for all the sword forums. SFI Sword Forum International, the brainchild of Adrian Ko was a kind of spinoff of his Highlander Forum.
All the other sword forums that came after were made by others who shared the sword discussion vision but had differing views as to how it should be handled. So we all owe a debt of gratitude to Highlander.

I dont think guardians of the galaxy is a cult film. Arent cult films supposed to do badly on the box office but do better with vhs/dvd sales?

I don't think there is a specific description other than those that have a "cult like" following. The Star Wars movies could be considered Cult Films. God knows there are a great many followers, many being "cult like".

Which was the whole point of me saying earlier Guardians of the Galaxy would not be considered a cult film, it is a mainstream success movie. Again Star wars would not be considered a cult film, it was a massive success. I remember the massive lines wrapping around theaters for Star Wars.

I remember the massive lines wrapping around theaters for Star Wars. I was part of those lines. I don't remember how many times I saw the first one in the theater but I remember seeing Empire Strikes Back 17 times when it was released.

Amazingly, "Shawshank Redemption" was a box office flop that went on to become of the most beloved films in America. Due to being broadcast on USA and TBS 24 hours a day

theres legit a star wars religion and like alot of light saber fighting schools around america 2011 UK census listed their religion as "Jedi." It had started as a joke and spread. Should have said Shinto as that is where SW was derived. Christian: 70% No religion: 16% Chose not to respond: 7.8% Muslim: 3.1% Hindu: 2.1% Jedi: 0.7%

saw godzilla 2016, i just have to say i did not like it as much as i thought i would, way too many political scenes and just scenes with the random protagonists i dont care about. and thats not how i wished godzilla would look or sound or act, so disappointed, even the 2014 movie was better in my opinion

In the 90's this movie and it gave me hope again for cinema only to see it flop in the theater with a 1 million box office for a 10 million budgeted film. An amazing film for those who have not seen it.
