And then someone else holds your sword that REALLY knows swords.
I went up to Blatimore to meet and train with J.Christoph Amberger, author of Secret History of the Sword. He grabbed it and felt that the handle was not inline with the blade. " It's feel and looks a little offset". but he did not hold it long as we had training to get to.
Today I looked it over as the OCD was raging about it. What I did besides use my one good eye was hold it properly, close my eyes and lightly come down on a table. I'd let it contact," feel it" as tactile is a better sense and then open my eyes and check it to see if the blade edge was on the table or if their was angle. It was proper, 90degrees blade/table. Did this 10 times. Thankfully the handle and edge line up well or I'd get back to Cold Steel " Take this POS back and get me another or send me a pipeback to make up for it." but the handguard is crooked. Damn. I like playing with this sword a lot but idk? kind of bothers me now.
If I don't hear back from them by Thursday, I am dropping another email and calling. I was thinking "it's not listed specs but I like it and maybe this will be one of those deals where some of the blades from this run are preferred to the models were all the bugs were worked out? Now I am starting to think I want them to take this and replace it with a better one or give me something else. Kinda mad, Backsword is what interest me the most, 2nd only 2 saber/infantry swords.

Posted in General Discussion already. MidwayUSA is having a 10-30.00 off sale this weekend. Just bought the Cavalier for 365.00 shipped USA. That's 83.00 below KoA. Boohahahahahahahaha Apparently I managed to sneak into the interphase of two differnt discounts and got the old 398.00 discount AND the -30.00 from 469.00 list for the weekend. Sorry, Camelot just sank back into the lake and you need to deal with KoA again. Damn you...and right after you talked me into severely liking this versatile hybrid "side sword/rapier" beauty. Now you MUST give us the details on this thing when it arrives. Hope it does not have the bugs the English Backsword seems to suffer from. It's a clear thruster...so I wonder how she will be in the cut...side sword attributes?

Edelweiss: I always make my own wire, if I need some that is. It is nice work. The wire over wire thing is something one better let a professional do. And yes, dyed green these skins are very nice on hunters and such. Cheers.
Darth: Thanks for posting that edge method. I will try it tomorrow. I am sure you can fix that off centre basket with a wedge, or just forcing it in the right direction a bit?. Also still no reaction from CS.

These swords aren't peened. You can unscrew the hilt and reset the alignment. After reading yours I took down the second one I bought and damn if it isn't 1.5 cm off true. Probably thousands of these left Longuan cockeyed. Something else to semprini to Cold Sty about.

Thank you Dave, now I feel stupid.
I’ve got into this " They are peend, so I cant do squat" mentality. I should have looked into it.
So I guess you took the 3 screws off that hold each bar to the pommel, and the pommel unscrews? Might as well ask before digging out the tools.
Hmm, i never noticed the handguard being off, I wonder if that's happend by the handfull of cuts I've made and drilling? I noticed last night on a couple of foils, they were taking wrenches to them between bouts.
Thanks again Dave.

(Two sides appear a bit flattened.) Some leather or flannel and pliers should open that.I would expect see an allen head bolt behind it that will need to be loosened. Blade should be vice gripped. Only pain in the ass might be that the grip is epoxied to the tang already. Then I have to cry "Haalp, Uhlan!!!) Stay tuned.

I will stay tuned, I don't have a vice here at home. A vice and a big ,wooden worktable is a must get. Time to get all Ulhan and start figuring out my toys. Some things I need to know how to do myself. Time to get on the stick and do the Bavarian up as well. Shims, a wet, heated piece of leather "PING, BOING, SHHTINGZ, Ouch poo!, BOING,....

Mine was off alignment as well, something I noted to CS (along with the less than 4mm blade and 38 2/3 ounce weight) before sending it back for inspection/replacement. Guess I'll have to wait until Tuesday (at the earliest) to inspect the replacement.

Checked out mine. Same story. Easy to rectify, but still. Now I want to take it apart more than ever, but I have to wait for CS's reaction first. Damn! Why is this taking so long? Darth, please call them if you can and alert them to the fact that people emailed them about this sword? I forgot. Have never had a CS were the grip is epoxied to the tang. It is a pressure fit system they use. I would like to invite anyone who is unscrewing their backsword to post their findings here: sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/40975/sword-construction-data-baseIf after all the grip is glued to the tang, just heat up the grip with the good old blow dryer and than shove it off. Watch out for your hands. Stuff gets hot! What needs to be done to make all CS models with the pressure fit system more safe is something I will talk about when I can disassemble the darn thing. Yoh CS?

Still nothing from CS. And I have been staring at that typical Windlass blade. The blade I have is a Bad Hair Day Windlass. Hammer marks I do not care about, that's okay. But those fullers... not so much. Mine are beyond wavy. If, for some reason, CS decides to let us down on the 6 mm front and to not take the swords back, I will have considerable difficulty with straightening them out a bit. It used to be that CS was a Windlass PLUS and one paid gladly for the upgrade. This is getting to look like a Windlass surplus reject with a CS sticker stuck on it. Now I am getting pissed....

Uhlan,
It's the day after a national holiday, where a considerable amount of the population got drunk and a lot of people are off of work, many offices are shut down or half staffed today, and we just watched our current government tell us that some animals are more equal than others, so I'd give it till about Thursday/Friday before thinking you are going to get a response. I bet they'll have a Chinese parliment before contacting a lot of us.
I'll get pissed if it's a week from now, but I'll call before that.

Yep, read about animals and pigs and stuff and Orwell and some semprini with a death list of over hundred that blew the constitution right out of the water. I am a Euro serf so I forgot you had this 4 th party thing going. Be safe.
Cheers.

This (day after 4th, hung over, half staffed, etc...) is what I kinda figured would be the case on why I should not expect my backsword today, though I am nearing the 2wk mark on something I was told would be in my paws in 3 or 4 days. I'll be fine if it works out in the end.

With the 4th (and certain countries leaving the EU), here's hoping for the better angels of nationalistic pride, and a brighter, saner world for it. Who wants some faceless bureaucrat in Brussels micromanaging anyway. A fun question/topic (as we are on a sword forum) is this: What sword would be best for certain unsavory political leaders/officials to fall upon, and why? I would imagine it to be a thin, rigid, pointy thing (sturdy Small Sword) for ease of penetration. For N Korea's Kim Jong Un, for instance, a wider, curved, nasty beast (1796 British Light Cavalry Saber), so the creep can suffer a bit (like he has done to his poor, hapless populace) while impaling himself.

Nah my friend, woodchippers and feet first. Swords in whatever form are to classy to be spoiled by megacreeps. Furthermore I must warn you that SBG has a stricked ,, No politics '' policy (that word again) and lets abeide by that. Darth and me were just discussing the weather. Maybe you could give them a call today?
Cheers.

Yes, and I got carried away with the "stormy" weather topic...but then tried steering it back to sharp pointy things, so I see your point...just swords...and woodchippers.

Three and a half pounds?!? Under 5mm thick at guard, but blade is wider and thicker everywhere, and it has one of those hilt lip things at the base to add strength. Still, that's just crazy heavy, and like a pound over historical average if I'm not mistaken.
