I am going to get a rapier for my collection in the next few months. This is going to be the only rapier I purchase as it is outside my main focus on swords. Am thinking I would like a cut and thrust designed rapier. A&A makes some nice ones which is where I will purchase it. Was also wondering if any of the Del Tin models are worth a look as well.
Suggestions on A&A and Del Tin or any other maker?

I went to the same route; Adding only one rapier to my collection since rapier is outside of my interest. End up ordering A&A German rapier & dagger... IF you are adding only one rapier, why not a real rapier that is designed for thrusting? You can get the feel of rapier at its glory as giant skewer. I have a pair from A&A ; Can't be happier... Wasn't sure I would like the dagger in the beginning... but really glad that I ordered one; Wielding a proper rapier & main gauche is really cool!

I vote for A&A German rapier, don't like how all the others have a narrower blade at the guard.
Edit..... Yep you got to get the matching dagger too Bill looks great as a set.

I've had the A&A German Rapier and the A&A Writhen rapier... and they were both awesome. If you get either and don't like it Bill... I'll trade ya something for it... I miss my rapier.

If you want a cut-and-thrust, take a look at the Town Guard sword. I don't have one, but it's on my list, and I've read many food things about it written by happy owners.
Any chance of having A&A do a custom rapier for you? They did 2 17th century cut-and-thrust, compound hilted swords for me, and I couldn't be happier with them.
I have 2 A&A production rapiers - Milanese and the Bavarian. They're beautiful swords, but feel heavier than one might think they would be, especially if you are used to ones with musketeer blades one them.

That is as it should be... many people have a misconception of rapiers as super light swords... they are thinking more of smallswords. Most authentic rapiers had a bit of heft to em... A&A gets it right... this is why I love their rapiers.

Right - I have rapiers that weigh more than my Medieval swords. Danelli Armoury makes some good looking stuff. I believe his blades are blunt. He is headquartered in England. Does anyone have experience with Arma Bohemia rapiers?

That is a nice set but not cheap. Comes out to $1,350.00 before shipping. Looks like a fair price though.

Speaking of Lutels, I really like this one, the 14012 which for some reason they call a smallsword. Kind of pricey though.

The exchange rate really puts a damper on buying some of their models. Things were much better over here for us before the Euro.

KoA had one of these in set and red leathers back last Christmas. By the time I'd finished giving unto Caesar it was gone and I was chasing other cars....

I've thought about that one down the road...I really like the look of it. Anyone have experience with the quality of lutel's scabbards/belts?

Yes, I lusted after that Lutel 14012 when it was at KOA, but couldn't bring myself to pay over $1000.00 for it. Of course that included a scabbard and swordbelt/hanger - but still... Then someone bought it, and put me out of my misery.
There are very few Lutels at KOA these days.

I got to handle Vay's Lutel's Mort. viewtopic.php?f=36&t=22610The scabbards are leather and I would compare them to Windlass's scabbards but if I remember correctly not as stiff. I really liked the baldric and I have been thinking of getting a Spanish hanger from them. I like this Lutel rapier. www.lutel-handicraft.com/?p=prod ... ier-14013A

I've used an ArmaBohemia rapier for fencing. It's a beautiful weapon, with a great look/ feel for the price.

I like it alright, but it's never felt like a rapier, it feels like a sidesword that's a little too long to be a good sidesword. I have the A&A German rapier that Sean used to own, and it is the bee's knees, one of the slightly shorter and slimmer rapiers offered by A&A. It's scrumptious. I, too, have been tempted by some of the Lutels, but never followed through.
