After seeing the picture, all I can say is "Well DAMN!" I just ordered the bottom one yesterday. Looks like I'll have to plan on getting the other three soon too. Question for Sonny: The top sword in the photo, the single hander with the heavier pommel, looks very reminiscent of the double-fullered Type XII of Gus' you had at Blade Show 2007. Is it just a resemblance, or is this a single-fuller version of that sword?

You ordered one for me too, didn't you, Mike? Mike..........Mike? Hmmm...I guess not... ;D Well, anyhow, I see one of those hand-and-a-halfers in my future too. Nice work!

I guess shipping to Canada does not count as U.S.A.?

Well, I know where my birthday money is headed.
Is it just me, or is it a great time to be a medievel sword collector right now?

If Paul wants to contact me regarding Shipping rules I think we can arrange to ship internationally for SBG.
And as for the Question from Mike. I need to get with Gus on that. I remember that sword from last summer but not well enough to compare. Sonny

Hey Sonny These new swords are exciting. Can you please tell us how close your manufacturing methods are to Gus'. Are they CNC milled blades? And are they heat treated in a furnace or on coals? Not that any method is superior, they are all means to the same ends. I'm just interested.
Top marks on the evolution of VA. This new stuff is light years ahead of the old VA range.

*trying very hard not to descend into a gollum-like state* Precious...........*smacks himself* Snap out of it! ;D
I love the arming style of swords, there is no other style of sword that evokes quite the same chivalric image in my mind. A knight relied on his arming sword in much the same way a samurai relied upon his katana. I love the look of the longsword, but a good functional one handed sword will always be my foremost choice. Plus, I can swing one in a hallway in case of attack (if I didn't grab the lever action first), whereas I would be fubar with a longsword. Call me a crazy scotsman, but I still think of the sword as my first (and favorite) line of defense.

Those scabbards look awesome and I wasn't even expecting one. It's hard to believe that I got a quality sword and scabbard for under 300 bucks. Sonny you own the sub $300 market, all the other sub $300 sword companies as to step up their game to compete with your practical line. Sonny I would love to see you add an English basket hilt or Mortuary broadsword/backsword to your signature and practical line. Here is the link to Gus's English basket hilt backsword. www.angustrimdirect.com/models/unamed_31/unamed_31_300w.jpg

Why do they all look identical ? (I'm so going to be ostracized from the medieval community for saying that....) I like that top one too, are there any plans to preorder that one?

They look identical, because they are, or close. 2 styles of sword, in blunt and sharp versions. That being said, I would snap one up in an instant if I wasn't spending all my cash on reenactor gear and armour. Dammit dammit dammit! Those scabbards also look very nice. I bet they would be a great base for customization. Is it weird that I like the idea of customizing and tinkering with the swords then actually cutting with them?

Well, gee whiz, Rammy, they ain't identical. Two of em of sharp and two are dull and two are longer than the other two and the pommel are different on two of em. Pay attention.

I noticed the pommels too. I wonder if the blunts wear slightly larger ones in order to achieve the same balance as the sharps?

That would be my guess. Beefier blades with rebated edges will need a larger pommel to offset it.
However, I bet they are engineered to handle the exact same way as the sharps.

Hmmm...I must have been interpreting the swords in the photo incorrectly. I thought these were 4 different sharp models. One pair have one of Gus' light pommel designs. The other pair having the heavy pommel design for much heavier swords.
I was just guessing that only the bottom two models in the photo were up on Paul's website so far. And that the top two models hadn't been sent yet.
Oh well. Maybe the top arming sword in the photo will be sharpenable?
Hoping to see these soon...

Mike, it looks like those are what's shown here: www.valiant-armoury.com/practical.html. The top two are the blunt 301 and 302 versions, and the bottom two are the sharp 303 and 304 models. I could be wrong, but that;s how it looks to me. Btw, aside from appearing a bit rounder at the tips, the beefier pommels are what suggested to me that the upper two were the blunts. Darkintruder pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Beefier pommels in no way suggest blunts, AFAIK.
I actually like the top one best - nice broad blade, probably got some serious blade presence on that baby.

Beefier pommel on it's own doesn't true...but we do know 2 are blunts and 2 are sharp...and since as pointed out before, blunt blades weight more, it makes sense to have bigger pommels on the blunts to help with balance. Silly Rammy...you should know this stuff . If I just hadn't bought a sword (and spent like 400 bucks on gems...and another 400 on my car's stablizer bars) , I'd be all over this . Oh well, there is in 2 months or so.

Its easy to tell them apart. Just look at the grip profiles. The blunts have thicker grip profiles, and the grip on the blunt arming sword looks almost squat compared to the much more slender grip on the sharp arming sword. Ok, the grip on the long sword looks nearly identical to me, but hey, I'm an arming sword guy.

I believe kriegs correct about the top two being the blunt versions. We were givin the option of sharp or blunt when ordering, so stands to reason they have both.

Need to clarify. If I wanted to order from SBG store would shipping to Canada be possible? I went into the order section and saw that Canada was still an option but due to the disclaimer saying that no international order on Valiant swords at this point possible, I did not want to place an order. Any help to clarify would be appreciated. Thank you.
