Perhaps just a simple scabbard like Kris Cutlery offers.
It works as a blade cover for transport, if they want fancy they go to Christian or DBK.

Problem is even simple scabbards take time to make and expecting one for under $100 and still turn a reasonable profit is something I think would be very hard to impossible to do. Hopefully you guys can prove that wrong For me, one of the main attractions of the DYO Atrims was the custom grips. So I am also hoping you guys can come up with something along those lines.

^ this for me as well. Christian was offering so many different grip options, they really made the sword. Brian of DBK used to do grips... and they were great... but he doesn't do it anymore. Sonny's CSS does it.. but not as many different options as CF was offering... and CF does the best custom grips I have ever held... so it is a bit of a bummer. Those are big shoes to fill... I dunno if Tom is going to want to mess with that. The main theme for his Tried and True armory seems to be performance and utility and great price... the munitions grade and mercenary grade lines reflect this... he is seeming to be looking for the most affordable way to get the quality and performance of an Atrim into the hands of people who might not be able to afford the top of the line stuff. Thus... not doing fancy grips falls in line with that mode of thinking. So... that sort of thing might not be a direction he wants to go in... and it is a shame that option wont be available from CF for those who want it anymore. DIY'ers can have a blast with these new swords tho.

Sean is right, BUT I think I have an ace up my sleeve. no promises yet but I am working hard for this. The Build Your Own project is all about getting people a finished sword they won't want or need to fool with to be the perfect sword for them. it will be a new direction for us, but we are going to take a swing at it. I ask that you all be patient while we get set up. maybe we'll hit a home run with this, mabe just a single, but you know what? hit enough singles and you still win the game. we want a homer but if we get a single we're gonna run with it and see if we can stretch it into a double. is that enough baseball analagy for one post? hang with us guys, we aren't done pulling out tricks yet.

Personally I think Tom's really taking it to the hoop with this, and he's really going the whole nine yards to give us a hat trick of price, quality and performance.

*groan*
Anyway, I too am a little sad to see the CF grips go the wayside with the BYO atrim, but I'm also very happy for the mercenary line, and the split pay options. Those two thing will see me with an atrim sword in my hand. And likely faster then it would have been. Damn minimum wage jobs. Lol.

we will have a decent grip, it is just going to take a little bit of time to get things set up. it won't be too long though and I don't think you'll be sad when you see what we have.

Tom, you already have a decent grip, I cant wait to see what you come up with for the swords though.
I think that everyone realizes it will take a bit to get things switched over, set up, and running at full steam again.

Well I think this is just awesome. I am thrilled to be in the sword game right now, when so much is going on that is new and good. Everything I have said in the past in praise of Sonny Suttles also applies to you guys, TomK and Hiroshi. Using your passion and specialised knowledge to set up something new and different. My dad used to say "Everything starts with an idea, and everything better starts with a better idea."
I will be placing an order in the next 60 days.

the real Coast Guard Motto: We have done so much with so little for so long we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.
how else do we do 5 times the work of the Navy with a tenth of the people and a 20th the budget?

Now them's dangerous words. You know Tom is a Chef Electrician. You don't know what he is capable of... He could rig your toilet seat to the power lines! Now that would be an electrifying experience!

I'll have to have my buddy Toby, also a Chief Electrician, insulate my crapper.

I'd never do something to dirty and underhanded as juice your john. I'd just slip a capacitor into the hilt of your next sword so every time you touched the steel you'd get punched. well, ok it'd only happen once, but I could make it a good one.

Haha, my uncle who was a fleet mechanic has a capacitor from a big AC unit, nothing funnier then when someone walks into the room and he yells catch, of course they always try to catch it

That's cold! If I tried that on some of the construction sites I used to work, I'd get my ass kicked big some big hairy burly men...
