Hey guys, You know how for years now I have been complaining and joking about Windlass Steelcrafts tendency to discontinue good swords..? Well, it looks like they are starting to show some serious interest in bringing some of the popular models back - I've been talking to them for a while now about the possibility of bringing back the awesome 'European Sword', the one that I used to have in the old SBG site header: And it looks like they may actually be going ahead with it! (if you were lucky enough to get hold of one of these before they were discontinued, you'd know that they hit the mark with that one). Anyway, in the course of several conversations, they also asked me 'what else do you think should be brought back?' A golden opportunity if ever there was one - it looks like they are finally interested in the feedback of the sword buying community. I told them that the sword of Auray was another must, as is the Ulfbert Viking sword and the old Black Prince (I tried digging for pics but could not find them - anyone got any pics of that old model? It was the most authentic looking sub $300 replica of this popular sword made I think!). Anyway, I told my contact at MRL that I don't want it to be just my recommendations.. Which brings me to the purpose of this post: to ask you guys what YOU would like to see Windlass bring back! Let's see if we can't ressurect some of the old Windlass treasures..!

Hmmm......How about the arming sword? Can I get an AMENAnd they should call it a proper " XIV" this time instead of "IV", whatever the heck that was supposed to mean. www.myarmoury.com/review_ws_typeiv.html

I agree wholeheartedly with Luna! I'd also like to see the Swords of Drizzt make a comeback, perhaps with a better scabbard this time? Also, I know it's not a sword, but I'd like to see their Fighting Dirk come back; I've been jonesing after this thing for a long time because I just love the look of it, but never had the money to get it before it was discontinued.

I would like to see the Warbrand make a return, but it's such a unique blade that I doubt it would sell well enough to warrant it.

I'd love to see them make this one again.....one on the left. Also wouldn't mind them making the one on the right either .

Wish I could find some of my old MRL catalogs...Off-hand, the one I would most like to see would be their old Runic Long Sax
Hmmm, never saw that one on the left before...I like it.

The Windlass German Bastard Sword, The Ulfberht, and the XIV Arming Sword are the only Windlass swords out of 50+ of their blades that I have really liked... all of those should make a comeback. Those three were great weapons. However... if they DO bring back the German Bastard Sword... I should like to see it with a peened pommel instead of a screw on.

The type "IV" and the black prince are my top picks.

I actually like that one on the left. I wouldn't mind seeing a review on that.
Bring back the Ulfberht and the Type XIV (and they did correct the name just before discontinuing it).

You need to remember, it's only in WIndlass's interest to bring back something that would sell well. The more unique models apply to a small market. I do believe there are a good number of models that Windlass could do very well to bring back. Some of these could use a few modifications though. XIV is a good one but i think the guard could look a little less modern and blocky. European Sword, I've always wanted this but never had the chance. The GBS, Ulfbehrt, Same as the XIV, I think it could use a slimmed down less bulky guard.
Now I would love to see the Erbach come back but I didn't buy it the first time around because I think it shouldn't be hollow ground. If they changed it to be a flat grind I would be very tempted or just thickened it a little bit, that would be good.
Also, the Towton might be a good one.

I would agree with the Erbach, Towton, and XIV. Also, although it's not a medieval type, I would suggest the Dutch cutlass make a comeback.

I join in in favor of the European Sword (have one and it is a very good one from WS), Ulfberth, Towton, Type XIV, Dutch clamshell cutlass, Italian H&H and Erbach. Here are a few I also think should come back: This one (German Hand-and-a-Half) The katzbalger: Schiavona: Rheinfelden: Then less popular designs but still: Cinquedea and Cinquedea sword and...why not...the Fighting Two Hander I would support the return of the GBS, but would have really liked it with a longer blade... Is it just me or are their new sword offerings look like a step down and really nothing to write home about (specially considering previous winner models such as those suggested in this thread)? I really really hope they re-issue some of the good old ones... Thank you Paul. Cheers Reflingar
