I would love to get a crack at a number of Windlass Swords that came and went before I came into this game. I would start by buying that above sword on the left. I'm really loving the lines on that sweet thing! The Towton looks like a 'must have' winner (as well as most of what I've seen in this thread so far). I'd also love to get at least one of those Drizzt swords. Been lusting after one (or both) since I first laid eyes on them.

Mine actually has a peened pommel. It's apparently one of the changes they introduced mid-production, as they sometimes do, in response to customer feedback. (Quite a thing, really. I mean, what other large manufacturer does that?) BTW, I bought it just two months ago from Rautaportti, a Finnish retailer that actually has many of the discontinued models mentioned so far in stock (because of some sort of a special deal they have with Windlass). And apparently they will ship international. If you're dying for one of these, it couldn't hurt to e-mail them and ask. The site's in Finnish, but here's a link to their swords page.

Well, thank you for the "kind gentleman"! I'm sorry though, as I don't know much about this one, except that it seems - at least visually- like a well defined and well proportioned longsword of the 16th c. Multi-fullered blade, well detailed and not "bulky" fittings, etc.: sadly very rare features nowadays on available WS swords...Here is a store that has more pics and stats: www.rautaportti.fi/aseet/miekat/Hand-And-A-Half/Hand-And-A-Half.htm (at an interesting price for a Windlass, too  )

Finnish prices are very interesting. Songs have been written about them. (No, seriously.)

As a proud owner of a Windlass XIV, I wholeheartedly agree with everyone else that believes it should be brought back. I do think that it needs a few 'upgrades', however, to do well. Improvements on the leather/leatherwork, and the scabbards (fit, look, etc.) Only then I think it'd be well-worth the... $200-somethin'-odd it retailed at (someone correct me if I'm wrong about the price range it was at please... I got mine after it had been discontinued). Make it suit the current market a little better without changing it in terms of handling and whatnot, I guess.

I don't trust anything with a long blade from Windlass... they are like wet noodles. The GBS was the only Windlass sword I ever owned with a blade over 30' that didn't feel like a limp worm in hand to me.

Not to even mention that it's already some inches longer (and some ounces lighter) than the original sword it's modeled after. And I quite like the compactness of it, really.
Personally, I'd lose the blackened finish on the hilt, make the grip slimmer and the siderings rounder, and reconfigure the risers, bringing it more in line with the original.

 I freaked out too, until I remembered "Hey, wait, they use a comma like we use a decimal. Never mind."

I would prefer the windlass late period viking sword. I've found no photos but it looks like the DT 5120. Can somebody remember this?

Oh, right, you Otherplacians use the full stop for a decimal mark...
Weirdos.

Windlass dropped all their cut and thrust swords at the same time, just when I started collecting. Went crazy trying to get an English C&T before they all disappeared, but the available ones were all sucked up. I would definitely buy a Rheinfelden and English C&T if offered.

Thanks Chuck, but AHB hasn't updated their history base since Domitian was emperor.
Have bought several big ticket items from them in the past. Really nice folks. But I tried that lead to a C&T over a year ago and was told it was a dead end back then. Think the individual page says out of stock.
