So, I was planning on making this a million dollar business with how popular battle ready swords are in the world. [/sarcasm off]
But I was thinking it would be awesome to have a shirt that said something to the effect of:
XVIII over the left breast Stats for the sword under that Then running down the right side of the shirt would be a silhouette of the sword.
On the back it would just read:
"Oakeshott" and in smaller letters underneath "What's your type?"
Buuuuut, I probably couldn't sell this as I'm sure the Oakeshott material is still under some copyright of some sort. But if I were to go into a custom t-shirt type place and make some of these for myself, I'm sure I'd get all the chicks.
Well, get all the chicks... to look at me funny.
Anyway, if for some reason I WAS able to make these, what would you guys think?

Hmm, I dunno... I would think the Oakeshott to be very nearly, if not, public domain by this point. Seems almost every sword-related site has some form of the typologies referenced, and of course by referencing them in itself credit is being given...after all, "Oakeshott's typologies" sort of implies a guy by the name of Oakeshott came up with it, no? If I'm seeing the same shirt you are, I rather like the idea. I'm no Euro guy and am terrible at types, but who knows, maybe I'd remember them better if more folks were walking around wearing shirts.

I think it's a pretty cool idea, Greg. I'm not 100% a Euro man (I prefer Chinese blades), but I definitely like the XVIII and whatever the VA Kriegschwert is (I can't remember and, at the moment, I'm too lazy to go look it up).

Well, Albion has a sword called 'The Oakeshott'... although I guess its possible they paid for the right... I dunno. I think 99.9% of people would have no idea what the shirt meant, and I doubt it would get you any lady's. Except RicWilly, of course.

...If there were a shirt that, by wearing, would cause RicWilly to approach me, clad in that dress and wig, I would wear that shirt EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
It would become quite foul very quickly.
Though considering the shirts I, personally, tend to wear on a daily basis...and the wide berth females tend to give me, anyway...I'm thinking Ric's company might make me look pretty good. :x <- I really, really do not like this emoticon.

Heck, if you non-euro guys like the idea, then it might go over like sliced bread to the euro fanatics. I'm gonna try to swing by the custom shirt place here and see how much it would cost to have something like that done up. Heck, if enough people liked it, I'm sure we could work up a general Oakeshott shirt that would have all the types on the back or something. Who knows. Right now it's just a neat idea I had and wanted to share it with the community. What I'm REALLY hoping for is that someone will see my shirt, and know exactly what I'm talking about and then strike up a conversation with me about swords. Then I can be like "You know that a well made battle worthy sword is fairly inexpensive, right?" or the best case scenario would be something like, Girl: "Love your shirt." Me: "Thanks! You know of Oakeshott?" Girl: "Hell yeah! I got into battle ready swords a year ago and I've been collecting them ever since. I've got about 5 Albions, a couple from a guy named Angus Trim and countless production blades. I also own the majority of shares in a company that makes tatami, so they send me 200 or so a month that have small defects, but still cut well. But it's so hard to find a guy that isn't intimidated by my masculine oriented hobby. For some reason guys are scared of a woman that knows how to use a great sword. Hey! Wanna come over and help me get rid of that tatami?" Me: "Marry me?"

Ah, the perfect world...
Where is my teary-eyed smiley?
...Wow, this thing tells you when somebody sneaks a post in while you're typing, and "suggests" you "review" your own post. Neat.

Unfortunately, the perfect world Greg dreams of is unlikely to ever happen. In fact, my last girlfriend was deathly afraid of knives and swords; of course, I didn't learn this until we had been together for about a year.
Yeah, I've gotten that about a half dozen times. It's pretty cool since it allows you to know if someone tossed a fast ball by you and snuck in with the same info you were typing.

I dunno... I'm pretty lucky. My wife loves swords and I've had a couple custom made for her... she plays poker and has even cashed in an event in the WSOP this year... we enjoy watching MMA together and she gets totally exited and into the fights. We even met each other for the first time at a LARP RPG so she shares my geeky love of LotR and D&D and whatnot. Yes, i may have found the perfect woman. Except that she is gone all the time and I miss her... a LOT. I am very proud of her tho.

It sure sounds like it. More women need to be like her. Now, stop bragging.

Yeah yeah, we all know how great your lady is, stop rubbing it in.
I think her frequent absence is just karma telling you something. :x
Tough to come across someone like that; tougher still to keep 'em close by. :/

Don't think that just because you live halfway across the country would stop me from coming down there and wiping that smirk off your face; I'd hate to do that to someone I consider a friend, so stop rubbing it in, Sean.

 Can't help it man... the only good luck I've EVER caught in life was meeting her. If it makes you feel better, I can tell you the horror story that is my life story outside of my exceptional wife... not for the faint of heart, that.

I can imagine. I've had mostly bad times in my life balanced by little good (to the point I've been clinically depressed for the past decade) and I'm pretty sure you've got some years on me. Besides, I'm just messin' with ya; if I had a lady like that, I'd be bragging, too.

I think you could do some nice t-shirts but maybe you should ask about copyrights, etc., here: www.oakeshott.org/

the Oakeshott shirt. . . providing that the base color is NOT WHITE (and preferably black or matte green or parchment) then you may put me down for a X (and Xa), XII, XIII, XIV, XVI, and XVIII.
I would hope the types would also have the subtypes with it so that XII and XIIa are not seperate shirts. and the entire line-up of swords coould be on the back, under "what's your type?"
I love the idea and want at least one for every day of the week.
Nathan Robinson was just here talking about a joint venture between us, Myarmory, and SFI maybe this could be one of those, and if so maybe he would consent to the use of his wonderful Oakeshott info.

Every idea mentioned here is good ( except the ones concerning Ric's dress ), but you need to be able to choose your type
