So for those of you who get distracted by the pretty model and want to actually know more about this thing. It seems the belt can stay on in the belt loops, and that you only need the ability to pop the handle out to be able to draw. To be honest this does look like a pretty cool CCW. Even as a way to carry hiking and backpacking so your not dealing with a large blade sticking out that can catch on something. Here are some pictures of what the system for the "sheath" really is, a series of metal pieces to hold the blade against the belt. Basically what the system is, is a series of "black zinc coated high carbon spring steel containment clips" which act as a sheath. They are attached with barrel nuts and machine screws, and have nylon stoppers at the end of the "sheath" to act as a stop so the sword can't slide too far. To be honest I would say the containment system is something that someone could make on their own. See the video of the guy who made a belt into ccw with a band saw blade. His sheath is fully concealed, as the blade actually slides into a pocket between the two parts of leather making the belt. I could see how these metal containment clips could dig into your hip, rub against you and cause irritation etc. The blades themselves are interesting in that they flex to curve around, but seem to actually become fairly ridged once out. Unlike the band saw blade that was quite floppy. I do have one giant bone to pick with this company. They make a rather outrageous claim. "Cutting Power: Even the dull blade of the RazorSword cuts as well or nearly as well as a machete. You may sharpen the RazorSword and it will cut better than a Samurai Sword or a machete."Now I would ask everyone here how likely it is that this will cut better than a real katana or a real machete? Maybe a sharpened one could cut as well as a machete, but I seriously doubt better. I would also say that a machete well made would probably still cut better than this. As for cutting better than a katana, well I think we all know that is probably BS bunk. I seriously doubt there is any way this thing could cut even close to the level a real katana can. Maybe better than a SLO wall hanger made of 440 stainless with a factory second bevel edge, but not a true battle ready katana. I am not one of those who worship the katana, but I do recognize the quality of workmanship, the science of the geometry, and the amazing mixture of the metallurgy.

Those are some pretty tall claims, but let's be patient and wait for Odin's review. Who knows, it might just replace the famed Jedi Ginsu!

well, as someone who thought this thing was about 100% gimmick, i ogtta say i'm impressed with the guy for stepping up to have his product reviewed by actual enthusiasts who know what kind of performance to expect from a slab o'steel.
looking forward to it, odin, and props to you for reaching out to him.

The CEO has got a pair of blue steel knick knacks to put his product out there like that, I respect that even if it is a gimmick and honestly, it's sounding less and less like one. I can't say that I see one of these belt swords in my future, but I look forward to the review.

wow this is getting rather exciting, but Sarge, if you show up on video naked except a beltsword I demand that you at least cover your nipples with one arm. if not I will have to mail you some super-glue in a visine bottle. oops let that cat out of the bag, no worries that's just the tip of my iceberg of evil retribution and squirly wrath you must feel if I am exposed to you nipples in a sword video. *shudder*

If it makes you feel better, blood, I haven't watched those videos. We won't get started on ideals of beauty and all that nonsense, though. I'll just be sharpening my knives.

OH COME ON.....seriously? People are impressed with this? I always find the best products need to use topless women to demonstrate how good their product is. This is years old. I remember seeing the videos a long time ago and finding it a joke then. Sorry I'm not buying into this and Im certainly not going to afford the maker any special favours because he has granted someone the promise of products for review. Yes its a nice gesture but it shouldn't stop people from having an opinion. The idea that a soldier would use this as a viable backup weapon is silly. The reason why sturdy fixed blade combat knifes are carried is because they work. Its not unpopular because its a new idea. Its unpopular because its an incredibly bad idea. The area that you would need to hit and cleanly cut to "stop" an opponent would be tiny...oh god why am I even trying to explain this. The problem anyone is going to have when reviewing this is there is no real comparison to be made with another product. It can be directly compared to other cutting weapons but the manufacturer can claim that......"yeah but...its a belt sword.....". I don't hate this product. Its a nice toy and its kind of "cool" but that about all it has going for it. I've looked online and read all the other information and even some reviews I can find on this. One forum seemed to think that being able to cut water bottles was the ultimate test and proved that this was an effective weapon. Whatever. Its stupid.

Not offered any more information than what is presented here I might agree with the above. But since the company is willing to give one of our own a chance to check it out and review it I will withhold on judging this.
I guess it is too much to ask to expect everyone to keep an open mind until an informed opinion can be heard. I'll wait until Odin give us his opinion before I make up my mind.

no it shouldn't stop anyone from having an opinion and I don't think anyone wantss to stop people having opinions, but here's the thing: we are getting the chance to do a good detailed review on it, in which we should be able to see just how good it really is, BUT if this product is publicly derided and hated on so completely before then it could color the forum's opinion on it before it ever has a chance. all we are asking is that folks let the weapon speak for itself in review before we roll it off the deep end and watch it sink merrily away. personally I'm not impressed with this from what I've seen and I agree with a lot of what Mrfatbucket and others have said against it but I'm going to wait for Sarge to put it to the test before I file this one away. and the thing is, even if it no good for a soldier in close quarters combat that doesn't mean it wouldn't be good for me or you, or someone else with different needs, in short we will see; let us wait for the trial before we rig the gallows. bloodwraith: I don't see anywhere actually saying the lady is attractive, just distracting. I can certainly see how a guy (like me) could miss the fact that there was a sword there while busily trying to catch a glimpse of ill-concealed boobies, let's face it boobies are fun to look at. I may have to go back and watch the video again just to see if she is attractive or not.

Xerxes, in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter? I don't think we even need to think about that, much less talk about it. ...This isn't friggin' high school, is it? 'Cause I'm not going through that crap again, lol.
Odingaard, I think you need to grow your hair long enough to cover your nipples, and to keep one hand covering them at all times, as Tom suggested. >_< ;D
Watched the lady. Can't say I'm attracted. The sword isn't hawt enough. XD She's not my type either. ...And the sword isn't hawt enough.
... We have gallows? Ooooh! I wanna try! Pick me! Yippee! *Chokes*

There are alot of flexible and functional swords out there that could be adapted or re-gripped to fit a belt scabbard like that. My biggest concern would be the question of the steel used to make their version and how limber the overall temper was. I don't really doubt that a belt sword could cut something or scare the sh*t out of someone; but I would like to see it tested including the ability to effectively thrust. I'd put more credence into the shorter design (24") over the larger ones; as they would be apt to have stiffer blades. I am going to write them and see if they will let me review one. ***Update***I just wrote the CEO about getting a review sample for the SBG site. I'll post the response here if there is one. I'm not as optimistic... if it is designed to be stored bent, I pretty much doubt it will be good for anything. (from what I saw in some of the vids on their site, the "sword" sometimes STAYS bent, even after it's drawn...)

I am curious to find out what sort of hell Odingaard puts it through, and how well it survives.
Though I am skepical to how good this product might be, I am willing to give it the chance to be beaten on by Odingaard. If it survives I still doubt I will get one, but I may direct a friend or two to them who would like them.
