If the essential purpose of a sword is to give you a longer reach by which kill someone by stabbing or cutting then I don't understand the vehemence exhibited against the very idea of something like this. The historical purpose of a sword was to KILL, not to hang on a wall. It is a total dismissal of the historical purpose of why people even used swords to imply that a weapon form should not evolve as technology and the battle field change over time. If people in the middle ages had the ability to make weapons out of cohesive light, you can be damned sure there would be tapestries with knights wielding lightsabres... As for the suspenders comment from a few pages ago. If you're wearing suspenders I don't think you really need to be worrying over whether or not a belt sword would make you look silly. A real truth though is that forums like this set up a double standard of administrators, moderators and the posters themselves. It may seem redundant to lok at the words again but please do take a look at that. LEGAL DISCLAIMER: The views and opinions expressed by the members of this forum are solely those of the commenting forum members. The Sword Buyers Guide (SBG) does not necessarily support the statements made by forum members, and administrators reserve the right to edit or delete offensive or offending statements. Staff of the SBG are committed to responsible sword ownership and use, and under no circumstances condone the use of a sword on another living being or any unsafe practices with live blades. The destructive tests shown on the SBG main page are done under controlled conditions and should never be replicated. The SBG is not responsible for any illegal use, unsafe practice, or use causing bodily harm performed by forum members or guests involving swords. Underline and bold are mine. So, it seems to make that then allowable conversation and at the same time condoning the words of the forumites. As far as this particular belt sword arrangement, I believe the guy was at SHOT or Blade shows back a year or so ago and the conversations on Blade Forum make this all kind of old hat and old news. The fellow's site has been up and down a couple of times and iirc, it was legal issues. At any rate, just one of any number of points made on this boards legal disclaimer either blissfully ignored or simply supportive discussion in the cause of popularity. Review it for strictly law and military purposes? Point out that there are a small handful of territories that cover blades in concealed weapons laws? Sure, why not I guess. Nobody but the reader has to open a thread, aside from administrators and sheriffs. Be dissapointed about any specifc board? Happens all the time.

A 2008 review of this thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=4741370One of several at Blade Forums (you will need to register if this prompts you to) www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=709995Old hat news, really. Speaking of old hat, there are discussions that go back quite some time regarding the rapier in the hat trick. This attachment was posted at the BF thread linked and actually not so rare a trick in steel blades. As far as belt swords discussions, including urumi. The lost article and site for the Spanish military belt swords, they are out there somewhere. Attachments:

Simon: The way you phrased things, I'm having a really difficult time trying to figure out what you are trying to communicate.
Are you saying that it goes against forum policy to point out the historical TRUTH that swords were made for killing? Are you suggesting that pointing that out is the same as condoning assault?

My reply could have been to any in the cheerleader squad. You are endorsing the product meant to specifically harm somone else. Law enforcement, military or any of the allowances of carry specifically go to harming someone with a sword. What part about the SBG disclaimer seems unlear to you? if you are endorsing the discussion, it might just be contrary to the wording of the disclaimer. Why do I wonder? Something to do. What are you doing here?

Seems to me that Laithoron gave a reasonable definition of what a sword is designed for. Nothing more. He never suggested in any way shape or form that he would use it for that purpose or that anyone else should.
So I too wonder where you are going with this.
Are you, Simon, saying that the purpose of a sword is NOT to kill people? Do you have any historical reference that suggests a different use for a sword? Or are you simply looking to start trouble?

Ok still not too clear what your trying to say, but then I am still sleepy maybe it makes perfect sense this time. I will point out this is a sword forum, the purpose and indeed definition of a sword is an object that is intended for use in combat. Yes in this modern day we don't often use swords in real combat. Most people wont cut anything more than a water bottle with their sword. Some wont cut even a piece of paper and just stick it on a stand or wall. Laithoron (I think) was not endorsing the product, but pointing out that when looking at the functionality of a tool you have to know the function and judge upon that. Swords are designed for combat. Is a CCW sword good for combat? Yep sure thing, that is. Is a pointy sword good for combat, yes again. Is a sharp sword good for combat, yep pretty good. Does that mean I plan to go kill with my sword? No, it just means I am understanding what the designed function of the tool is, and judging the tools functionality upon how well I perceive it could do these things. You know those nice cutting mats, they represent the flesh and the bamboo represent bone. Because people don't test on convicts and corpses anymore. At least I hope no one is still.

Seems you have not stayed up with the times. There is a weapon system for shooting around corners, and it is a very serious thing. Maybe, just maybe, he had been keeping up with the times and knew that this ¨shootin´around corners¨ crapola had already been tried at least one time before with the Stg. 44 in WWII and was found very impractical in real world combat. I believe that he was just expressing his opinion on the practicality of this ¨belt-sword¨ thingy. I am sorry that Grey Wolf felt so strongly about the Belt Sword issue to delete his account over it. His oppinions and input will be missed. I haven´t seen it stated that that is the reason that he deleted his account. I agree that his input on this Forum was very informative and beneficial. I hope that he returns.

The modern advancements though have created the ability of something that seems stupid to become usable smart, and now quite used by military and law enforcement. The very same could be the case with the Belt Sword. What seems like a silly gimmick may actually now be functional. Sure if a lightsaber came out for real it would seem like a gimmick but if it worked I bet everyone would want one. Another example is mobile phones. You used to have to carry a briefcase just for the batteries and the giant phone. Now they have them small enough to make them wrist watches. My point is sure be skeptical but dismissing things just because it wasn't done well by someone else in the past is a great way to miss out on the new innovations of today and tomorrow.

Hahahah, now look at those two pictures. Yours yes was crapola as you say...... The Stg. 44 was a very well designed and effective fighting weapon. Definitely not to be called crapola by anyone who is actually informed. It was one of the original assault rifles, and served as a model for many of the infantry shoulder-fired weapons still in service world-wide. The other ¨weapon¨ pictured is unknown to me. It may or may not be crapola. I do not know nor will attempt to say one way or the other without further study. Nonetheless, I was not referring to the weapons themselves, but to the particular, specialized concept . I plainly stated this when I wrote ¨´shootin´around corners´crapola¨. Possibly there was confusion in language as I am not sure if English is spoken in Cascadia, or even where Cascadia is located. But, the concept was tested long ago in, once again, REAL combat conditions, and was found very lacking as to practicality. The ¨weapon¨ that appears in the other photo appears to be even less practical in REAL combat conditions than the Stg. 44. SWAT use by a VERY specialized officer, I can see it maybe having a use. REAL combat is very rarely carried out in pristine, photo-op conditions. What one sees in anime cartoons, video games, or movies is rarely what one will find in the real world. There is rain, snow, smoke, dust, mud, sand, and other environmental conditions that will nullify a gussied-up polished turd real quick. Not to mention the knocks, drops, bumps, rocks and fragments thrown by explosive devices that can damage even strongly designed weapons. I do not feel bad about responding to your comments as they are mis-leading. As to a possibility of me going off topic here, hey ain´t nothing new on this thread or with SBG in general. The belt sword causes controversy wherever it goes. Well I´m looking forward to the review.

Seems you haven't kept up with the times earncynn, the picture I posted is in service with SWAT and military and has plans for much broader use with the newer versions. While yours was just a novelty piece that saw little use.

While yours was just a novelty piece that saw little use. I do have some experience in which to form a conclusion. Do you? The Stg. 44 set up for corner shots was tested and found wanting. Thusly it saw little use. And because of the fact that a weapon set up for corner shooting was not/is not practical in REAL combat conditions, it is indeed a novelty piece. Just as this thing that you show will become I predict. As I said, it MIGHT have some very little use in very few situations - read SWAT, but not for serious, REAL life use. Your vids are nothing but sales crap shot at ranges and are interesting stuff for the ¨gee wizz¨crowd. But I do predict that we will see them at the movies. It seems that there is a language problem here.

I haven´t seen it stated that that is the reason that he deleted his account. Odingaard and Chris; Thanks for your input. And Chris, thanks for your invitation to go elsewhere. I think that's good advice. Jim If you look back at the discussion a few pages back, it appeared to be a reaction due to discussions in this thread - it was his last post on the forum. Perhaps when he returns, he could clarify why he left - but for now, it's up to whomever to speculate as they wish; he's no longer here to discuss it.

I was thinking to myself about another member being an semprini with him on another thread and thought that that might have had something to do with it. But your posted quote there does seem pretty clear. I wasn´t and I won´t speculate online as to anyone´s motivation for deleting their account. I was commenting on your statement that he had deleted because of this thread. I am sorry that Grey Wolf felt so strongly about the Belt Sword issue to delete his account over it......

I bet that corner-shot thing would be high maintenance if you were, say, one of our folks in Iraq or Afghanistan. I'd think they'd need to have a way to easily replace or fix that camera.... Unless there is and I wasn't paying attention and missed it.
Everyone's gotten so argumentative lately. What happened to my favorite friendly forum? lol.

Still no Belt Sword. I have an email in to Curtis to see what the deal is. Optimistically, I am hoping he is just busy with summertime activities, the Blade Show, and all. On the other hand, it could be like the BKS Fantasy Bastard Sword Order Thread, Part II - in which case, I will be waiting awhile.
