I'm not sure if the shorter one would be stiffer, as the shorter ones have thinner blades, they're all probably similar I would geusse. Even so, the longest model has a blade just over a milimeter thick, the others are thinner. They claim it's only for cutting an not thrusting, and that it is good with an unsharpened blade. As far as self-defense goes, I think it would certianly be better than a folding knife.
Why are they advertising it with a naked woman who's using her other hand to hold her hair over her nipples?

Shoot, in West Virginia the CCW only covers firearms....... I guess I won't put this on my wish list.

While I can think of many fun things to do with my pants around my ankles fighting isn't one of them. ;D
Also, I would give you that much time to whip it out. I mean the metal thing (I will not call it a sword).
Really, these things never work. I would enjoy a review.

I would worry about the following things: 1. how long to deploy it 2. I wear suspenders, wouldn't a belt look funny? 3. Like an earlier poster said, wouldn't your pants fall down? 4. I might try to visit my friend in prison, forget I had it on, and end up in prison too!

From what I can make out it's not a matter of removing the belt, so much as there is an attachment on the belt that acts as the sheath/scabbard for this thing. In other words...where this notion of pants falling is coming from, I cannot see.
Guy in the video seems to draw it about as quickly as most of us draw our normal swords; perhaps the blade length is beneficial in this regard. On that note, I am concerned about its flexibility. Not sure how I feel about a 22" blade that can wrap around my waist...
I can't see any reason suspenders would cancel out a belt. If I'm wearing suspenders, it's WITH a belt. I don't trust the things to keep them snug in the waist, after all.
Seems like a gimmick to me, sure, I'd rather just keep a regular knife in a conventional sheath/scabbard somewhere ON my belt, rather than under, but that's just me. I do wonder if the "swords" themselves are any "good" as swords go...

Good news... Curtis Koehler, the CEO of Belt Swords, not only responded to my email, but also called me. We spoke for about an hour about the belt sword system, the different types of products he offers, construction, development, testing, and more. Curtis is a very well-spoken, knowledgable, and nice guy. I enjoyed speaking with him about his product, background, and other topics. One interesting point is that the Belt Sword system was not developed as a traditional sword, per se. It was developed as a concealable self-defense tool for military and law enforcement applications. Curtis has numerous testimonials, not only from LEOs, but more importantly, from soldiers currently serving in Afghanisatan that are carrying the Belt Sword as a backup weapon in the combat zone. He also sent me a copy the endorsement sent by an active Army Coloniel serving there. His soldiers and himself seem to be very satisfied with the product. Curtis is very confident in his product and believes that it is a very effective self-defense tool made with the best materials available. He understands that most will see it to be a gimmick, so he is very eager to have it reviewed by a 'sword guy' to see how it holds up. He has agreed to send me numerous samples of his various products for testing, including destructive testing and the testing of some prototypes he has recently developed. This should be very informative to everyone. Out of respect for Curtis offering the SBG a shot at reviewing the product, I'd like to ask if everyone kind of withhold judgment until we put his product through the paces to see what it's about and how well it performs. He is kind enough to let us review it, we should extend him the courtesy we would extend all vendors - even if we are unapproving of the types or genres of blades they are making. I will repost here once the product is recieved and the review is posted!

Sounds like my kind of guy. Can't wait to see what he sends you. For the sake of stemming off my curiosity, though...these testimonials etc., are they on the site? Didn't really bother to look...

Yeeeeeeesssss.... Sounds like a bang-on deal. Also sounds like a pretty cool CEO type guy, letting you do that. I can't help but feel like it's a gimmick because of the advertisement method, with the lady. Will have to see your review. Will with-hold that opinion until we have more evidence, yes. Can't quite go wrong if you use 'attractive' women in your ads though. Hm... if I ever make a company....
Personally, I'd rather stick an actual sword in my pants and call it a CCW. Heheh, sword in my pants.

"Is that a sword in your pants or are you just--"
"Oh, no, it's a sword."
...Actually, there are a number of very efficient sword styles that would make a snug fit to the side of one's leg, given the proper mountings...

Odingaard; Thanks, that answers quite a few questions. I had wondered if it was just a new way to sell an edged weapon. Makes sense, but ONLY as a back up weapon. I always carried a bowie as a back up in the bad bush. Came in handy more than once. In that sense, I wish him well in his endeavor. Let us know what you think.
As far as CCW is concerned, of course, never bring a knife to a gunfight!

The testimonials and such are not on his site currently. He sent me a document with them on it, as well as a thread from Sword Forum International on his product. He also sent a copy of the official US Army certificate he was awarded. I was glad that I got the see this documentation, as it began to take some of the gimmicky element out of it. I'll link all of this info once I get the product reviews up and all.

OH GOD, OH GOD, I just had an image of a hairy rotund man doing the same thing as the chick in those adds. >.< Curse you, vivid imagery! "Is that a sword in your pants or are you just--" "Oh, no, it's a sword." My thoughts exactly, good sir.

Looking forward to this review. I actually think it's a cool concept as a backup weapon, and if it gets Odingaard's approval stamp I'll be getting one
