I'm assuming most of the people here do their shopping online, but do any of you have an actual physical sword store to shop at? With the amount of places online selling for well below MSRP, actual knife and sword shops are becoming less and less common. Do any of you wish that you had a shop that you could actual visit, or are you content with online?

THere is one shop about an hour from here... but the highest level thing they sell is a low level masahiro... I wish I had a actual shop to go to, see things in person, handle em etc..

Is KOA a shop, or a "Showroom"?

Yeah there certainly isn't anything close in Western Australia. The closest is a depeeka stocker who visits the SCA and Ren stuff.

I'm not sure about the distinction between "shop" and "showroom," but I know you can look at a bunch of blades there and you can pick up things you purchased at the physical location, so it seems entirely possible that you could go there and purchase things. I think. Either way, Kult of Athena is located at: 1426 Davis Rd Elgin, IL 60123 USA. That's about 40 miles from Chicago. *edit to add: For more info (and pictures!) kultofathena.com/showroom.html

888knivesrus.com also has a storefront in Jacksonville florida. Have met the owner on a few occasions and he is a pretty good guy to deal with. He has an incredible selection and happily allows customers to inspect before they buy.

There was a place near me in Statesville called "Man o' War" that had swords. Sadly there wasn't much buisness and they closed.

There was a place in a local mall near here called "Spartan Cutlery" They went out of business just before summer. Their prices were way to high. I even repeatedly suggested them to buy from KoA so they could lower their prices just a bit. They never listened to me and now they are out of business. They got what they deserved.

Man... I wish there was something like the KoA storefront near me... if I could go in and handle and inspect the swords I'm interested in before I buy them, I would not buy/sell/trade so many swords all the time. MRL's wharehouse/storefront is only about an hour and a half from me... I go there from time to time to check things out... but most of the Windlass swords disapoint me a bit... however they do have those AWESOME dimonds in the rough from time to time... and sometimes they have such screaming good deals its hard to resist.

Huh, good to know... +1 for the info, thanks! ;D My mom goes to Jacksonville (about 3 hours away from us) every few months for a medical cancer check-up thing, so next time I'll see if I can tag along and maybe we can swing by that place... As for the original question; I wish, lol. Tallahassee doesn't even have a decent knife shop. It would be cool, though. -Slayer

Were they not getting their stuff directly from the manufacturers? KOA's prices are low, but rarely are they below what it costs to get stuff directly from the maker.

Dealer prices are better then what KoA sells to the public for... if they were not buying wholesale from the manufactures then they should not have been in buissness in the first place.

the only way I would even be interested in a bricks and mortar place is if it was like the KOA show room. I've seen the occasional Mall cutlery store and they are a joke. low end masahiros selling for $200+ stainless steel everywhere, flails with shoddy chain nailed into the end of a wooden dowel going for $75 and will probably fly apart and break a window the first time you used it . . . OH, the HORROR! no, do not ask me to go to a bricks and mortar blade store unless it is something special.

I have seen many a strip-mall 'sword store'... I don't even consider those sellers of real weapons. I would LOVE to walk into the KoA showroom tho... ;D

I have to say that this is a good ol' case of Supply and Demand. It's much better to sell to an online audience with large amounts of demand than limit oneself to an area where the only thing really wanted is Wallhangers. Think about it- some places sell $250 STAINLESS JUNK and people think they're getting a good deal- because they "could" harm themselves with functional weapons! And this one looks nicer!
Moreover, an actual establishment for sword buyers would be too expensive- I'm Canadian and Reliks is just down the road, but KoA is still a better deal even w/ shipping.

There used to be a little place around here called Excalibur. It was similar to what Tom described the mall cutlery stores as, with the exception of handling Masahiro and Musashi blades. They cost a bit more than ordering online, but were close if you tacked on shipping costs. They closed recently. On a side note, there used to be a place in Baltimore that handled the Stainless crap, but also dealt in Windlass and Hanwei, but the last time I was there, they were not. Don't know if they closed or relocated, but they weren't at the Inner Harbor anymore.

I just wish I was one such person.
