Second place ( a little afraid to post this due to the new found absolute hatred/vitriol for the Confederacy) but Josey Wales:

When Arya jumps up after being kicked down by Brienne, she has a snarl even Nymeria would be jealous of. I was scared she was going to kill Lady Brienne for a minute. The sick hand switch of the dagger was epic: That scene has some of the fastest sword action of the entire show. How many of you knew Maisey Williams, the actress who plays Arya is actually right handed. In the books Arya is left handed so Maisey since season 1 has practiced using her left hand. She has had to strap down her right hand while training. Did not know that!!!! No spoilers tonight folks!!!!! Verity has yet to see the latest episode.

Always an interesting question. Here are a couple of very nice articles that can lay it all out: Koto Era Swords: jssh.org/koto.htmlShinto Era Swords: jssh.org/shinto.htmlOne can make the argument, and on a purely technical basis I agree, that Koto blades (generally, a bad sword will always be a bad sword regardless of era it was made poorly) are better blades in construction and specific activities that were from the era. That said, even nihonto fans like Verity and I differ in our tastes; Shinto swords of the Kanbun era make up probably 90% of my want list swords for reasons specific to me. Everyone is different.

From my new custom Huawei T10 heavy niku shirasaya katana This one has a weird splotch on the top near the mune - ignore it - I'm thinking it's a reflection of the flash since the blade doesn't have anything there. I need to take better pics... these were taken with my iPhone 7 Plus Angles with phone flash enabled work well. A LED blacklight is also great. Reveals activity.

I read that one as well. I imagine it's - ah, considerably more controversial. I see his point though. However, it's just another reason I shouldn't own a nihonto, my OCD would destroy me in no time flat. I actually do oil my nakago on Nihonto... sort of. I don't actively apply oil or rub or anything BUT as a last stage of the blade oiling process, I take my (nitrile glove covered) fingers that have gotten a tad oily from wiping the blade and lightly "dab" them over the nakago. This ensures no abrasion or rubbing but gets some tiny traces of oil on there. Not enough to cause a tsuka to swell but enough to create that tiniest of critical air barriers. Just my process Going to start doing this. Was my instinct anyway. Thanks Verity.

Also from Darcy, the idea to VERY LIGHTLY oil your nakago: www.nihonto.ca/ha/?p=311I have to say I wanted to do this but was warned off by many nihonto folks. Interesting for sure. I owe you a beer or three. If you are ever in Boston area, I will make good.

I am really committed to nihonto now and the wife has set some rules.... get rid of the swords you are not keeping! Ok, if anyone likes, wants any of the swords on 1st page listed 1-9 let me know. I can't give them away, but none are priceless works either LOL. You have begun the next phase of your training.... abandon all ye SLOs who enter here! Your journey to the dark side is nearly complete... Bwhahahahaha I am immersed in the Darkside. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.
