I think hamons are beautiful. They can be mesmerizing. Also a deciding factor for a sword purchase. Do any of you have hamon photos that you would like to share? Choji midare hamon on my Musashi T10 blade. My most beautiful blade so far.

Old KC 5160 blade. A bit tricky to etch, but worth it. Hamon's pretty unusual. Also the tiny scratches are visible due to strong light, they are virtually invisible in RL.

Beautiful hamon there madmartigen - but what I really want to know is: what's that art on the wall behind the sword in the second picture?

I must say that Musashi in the OP is really positive surprise. This is among the best hamon pics I've taken myself. Unfortunately I've sold the camera as equipment and lighting make huge effect to pictures like this. This is just a cropped pic of much larger portion of the hamon on my Kanemoto tachi. There is a lot of variation in hamon and I like this "wilder" portion. Craziest hamon on a sword that I've owned has been on this Sukemune tanto: yakiba.com/Tanto_SukeMune.htm Unfortunately I don't own any good pics of it as my only camera back then was my phone but Ed has still pro-quality pics up. That was a wild hamon and it was great to enjoy it while I had it.

Actually I'd be very pleased to know the source too. I have bought it like thirty? twenty something? years ago as a part of the only legal SF magazine we had that time, so it's just a magazine torn-out page with some personal history attached. There were no copyrights that time here, and all was generally f**d up. My youth :). But I love that picture and it has been with me ever since on many of my walls, despite it's anonymity.

This would be from huawei. I like the Musashi w/choji hamon you're showing off. T'would be nice if we could assemble a decent collection of hamon photos by our katana enthusiasts.

As would I Shishi. I've always heard that Huawei katanas have great looking hamons.
As for this musashi, I don't know if every blade from them looks this good or maybe I just got lucky but it looks beautiful to my eyes.

These are pics I've taken after I used some lemon juice and a polish with mothers mag. I've noticed that if I use some warm oil afterwards can darken the hamon. Also note in the last pic. Can't explain how but there is a lighter secondary hamon on both sides of the blade in the ji. Very awesome and a nice surprise too.

It is the Musashi T10. I think I posted my first impressions some time ago. This blade is hands down the best that I have. The Folded Elite blue one that I have is also great although the hamon isn't as pretty as this one. This blade is pure awesomeness. Edit...Same Musashi T10 blade with different tsuba and saya. Also note that one of the main reasons I love this blade is because I only payed $200 for it new. I've yet to find a better deal out there anywhere.

Musashi Folded Elite. The red and black one. I don't think anyone has put a cool name to it. Note that I have not used lemon juice or polished this one yet. Attachments:
