Storm - I finally had my "action plan" all figured out. Then I saw this sword and I think I am in love. Haha! .....eh That is a beautiful sword. Maybe Mr. Robinson would take a 1998 Ford Ranger in trade? I agree with your original post too, and the Albion Squire Great Sword is on my wish list. It looks like what I always imagined a great sword to look like whenever reading about them in books.

It is a nice sword. Before I left Germany, Lukas was kind enough to give it a good sharpening. Are you no longer in Germany? Are you back in the States? I bought some swords awhile ago and they came in a battered old box with multiple layers of postage labels, and I saw your APO address on one of them. I was stationed in Japan with and APO. It must have been a well-traveled box.

Out of curiosity, what's his turn around time now? Hi Dave, I was on it for just under one year. I sent the sword off right after Thanksgiving and it was done right around Christmas time. My boys loved opening that box when it came back. Seth

I usually don't make them, but last year I decided to read the whole Bible and succeeded. This year I am not drinking alcohol. I don't drink much as it is, but a friend has had some issues so I am going to do it in solidarity with him.

Thanks for the article. The military requires us to do force protection training every so often the last couple decades have seen a shift in what they teach. Before 9/11, they recommended that in a hijacking situation you remain calm and cooperative and wait for negotiations or rescue to resolve it. After 9/11 it's changed to fight back since the plane might be used as a suicide weapon. For active shooter situations they train to 1st to flee, then hide and barricade and finally fight back in any way possible.

It was a really dumb thing for the airman to do, though undoubtedly brave as hell. Given the situation, I think it was probably the best thing to do. If he had frozen and hid, the terrorist could have got his AK firing again. If I recall right, it either jammed or needed a reload, and they jumped in that window. There really was no where to go on a moving train so it was either fight back or be picked off one by one.

Someone posted some ROTJ clips of Luke's battle with Vader and to me, that was the culmination of Luke's hero's journey--faced with a choice he refused to kill his father and says, "I am a jedi, like my father before me." That was why I liked Luke so much--he resisted the temptation and prevailed. Then we come to TLJ and he's like, "Nope, changed my mind--don't want to be a jedi no more." Then he fades away into the sunset. It was a let down. I was hoping to see greatness in Luke, and it didn't happen. They made a cursory attempt to explain the change, but it didn't explain fully. I understand Disney is more interested in starting a new franchise with new, posable action figures actors than completing story arcs of aging characters. Oh well. There's lots of other movies in the world.

I have a scabbard coming from Russ Ellis for an Albion Knight. Highly recommend him! He sent the below picture. It looks amazing and should be here soon. I have an Albion squire line viking on order that should be here in time for Christmas 2018. If this is a good year, I may put an Albion Ringeck on order. Although, I am really impressed with VA's Craftsman Collection, and I am mighty tempted by the Irish ring sword or the Valor over the Ringeck.

I loved the Ewoks as a kid--best Christmas present ever was the Ewok village from my Grandma.
I think one of the hallmarks of good fantasy is internal consistency. The world may be way out there, but as long as it is internally consistent, my willing suspension of disbelief is happy. I think the original trilogy did the internal consistency well despite all the "unrealistic" things. The newer movies disrupted that internal consistency which as an adult, I was much more likely to notice.

I think 'hyperspace missiles' would be a very, VERY bad idea...especially if both sides had them. If they could target a ship, send a missile into hyperspace, then have it come out right in the middle of said ship....game over. The space battles would only last a few minutes...probably more like a few seconds. Then everybody would be dead, and there would be no more point in the war. Sounds kinda like a scenario currently trying to unfold HERE ON EARTH. I suppose a hyperspace missile battle would be all about who shoots first. Of course, we all know the rebels would have the upper hand on that.

I agree with Trancred's assessment of Luke. They needed to explain that arc more. I think they are too focused on developing new franchise characters so they kill off the old ones without much thought. I was really hoping for a Lancelot moment from Excalibur for Luke--he's all old and hairy but rides in and opens a can of whoop-ass like no other but dies in the process. I think it would have been more effective to have Luke kill Snoke in that fashion.
I suppose it's because when I was kid, Luke was my hero. Watching him show up to Jabba's palace and kill the Rancor then fight on the barge was so cool. Now a chance to see Master Skywalker in action was blown.
The weird casino storyline and Laura Dern's poor leadership also harmed the movie. What leader wouldn't tell the people the plan? Makes no sense--there was no OPSEC concern and she caused a mutiny. Also, no one has thought of hyperspace missiles? I don't understand how the code-breaker knew about the transport plan. Finn and Rose left before it was known so he couldn't have known. Such strange plot holes.

If we are going with the immortal version of Mikey, then I change my game plan. Once I have disabled and subsequently dismembered him, I am going to eat that mofo. I can't be sure that his immortality will get passed along to me, but why risk letting a good thing pass you by without at least trying to obtain it? Also, by doing so we can forgo any uncomfortable questions from the authorities. Also, also, digestion is as good as fire for disposing of a regenerating immortal's bits. Also, also, also a few weeks of free victuals. After all, meat is meat. Also, also, also, also that's what you get for inviting yourself into my kitchen in the middle of the night. Reminded me of a book about mummies where the ancient Egyptians discovered an alchemic potion for immortality (all wounds regenerate over time etc.). They used it on livestock for never-ending supplies of food, but everyone who ate it died because the meat refused to be digested and caused blockages. I think it was by Ann Rice.

Thanks all for the advice. I'm just dipping my toes in the antique sword world, and very much like it so far.

the sword arrived yesterday. It is a beautiful sword and handles very well--so much better than any repro saber I've had. I am new to the world of antique swords and I have a couple of questions:
1) What's the best preservative/anti-rust method? Ren wax? Is it ok to use Ren wax on the fish-skin grip?
2) The blade is slightly twisted and bent at the tip, should I attempt to straighten it?
Thank you all.
