Hello again Folks, Couple of updates. The KC is still "in progress" and will be ready for pictures by this weekend ( I hope ) Had to make a couple custom copper seppa for it as nothing I had on hand fit correctly :-) Bare with me, it will be up soon. New saya will not be built untill later this year. For now, heres a shot of a Walter Sorrells Hira that is nearly complete. The saya pictured with the katana is not the swords actual saya, but closely resembles the real one. It is still be laquered. Tsuba, seppa, menuki are all custom. Fuchi and kashira are from Fred Lohman. Tsuba and seppa Kendall Chow Menuki Paul Loatman and the album s80.photobucket.com/albums/j162/HardKnox_01/Walter%20Sorrells%20Hira%20Zukura%20WIP/Also recently completed it the PC Tsuru Iaito. Shipping today back to its owner. Was originally planned as a re-wrap, but the production core just wasnt working for me. So, new tsuka was made. Done in panels rather than a full same' wrap. Turned out pretty good. The owner will soon be putting it the test :-) Thanks for looking, Back soon with more :-) Take care, Skip

Also, precisely to my taste lol, if you remember. Only differences for me would be leather ito, and my own sukashi style tsuba. The fittings, contrast, color, and overall theme fit my taste very well =D. Cris

Hey Thanks Guys,
I'm out the door in 5 min to get the PC on its way :-) The owner practices a very rigorous (sp) style and the wrap will most certainly be put through its paces. As I told her, my hands and fingers were pretty sore by the time it was complete. It may very well be one of my tightest wraps so far. When wraping it, I kept telling myself "tighter damnit, TIGHTER!!!" :-)
Ah, the Sorrells Hira. I'd buy it myself if I could afford it :-) Mr.Sorrells did such a fantastic job on this blade. Hamon is very impressive. Weight and balance are perfect. As it is a lighter sword, it lends itself to lightning fast response. Who ever ends up with it will be a very, very happy person. Oh, did I mention it's for sale :-) The owner will be listing it soon so keep your eyes on the classifieds both here and at SFI.
Ok, have GOT to get moving :-) Thanks again guys. Take care,
Skip

Oh, man I hope I get rich.... That has to be the coolest katana I've ever seen.
Is it okay if I ask about how much it will be, or is that a no-no, lol?
thanks, Skip, I've heard alot about your work. Hey, I might have to get a custom blade just so you can mount it ;D!

Thank you Slayer :-) As I'm not the owner, publicly stating the asking price is not for me to do, but it will be listed within a few days. I'll come back and add a link to this thread.
Ok, back out to the shop :-) Take care,
Skip

Oh boy! That's mine! I got the pictures this AM from Skip - who has been awesome about communication through the whole project . Don't she look purty now? She went off to the west coast for a spa vacation and now she has a waist and a proper friction fit tsuka core. I can't wait to try her out. Sorry Skip, yes I am kind of tough on my swords, I hope your fingers recover quickly. But was glad to hear that you were satisfied with the way it came out Music, just pure music to my ears ;D Really nice work on that Sorrels blade. It is beautiful - very nice hamon. I like the Habaki's rounded edges, they make it look really substantial. Cris, I have not tried leather yet, so I am not really sure how I feel about it. One of these days Mark, I hope I love it too I bought a navy sageo (off the classifieds on SFI), I sure hope it matches well enough. Slayer, Yes, it is rude. Unless perhaps you are really serious about puchasing that amazing Sorrels. Then it would be most prudent to PM with inquiries, or you could just wait for it to be listed by the owner. Debbie Edited to Karmalize Skip

I would be if it turns out to be affordable. I LOVE that tsuba. Besides, I don't have a kat yet It'll probably be more than I can afford, but I can dream, eh? Sorry if I offended you! ;D

Apparantly it's worthless , but I still have a bunch of video games to sell ;D. I'll probably end up selling my 'antique' for about $75 to a consignment shop or something, lol. Thanks anyway, and enjoy your new katana! -Slayer

Uhh, Hi skip. I'm just curious but does it offend you that this last katana you pictured is now being sold? /index.cgi?board=selling&action=display&thread=8387&page=1I don't know specifics but getting a custom blade put together just to turn a profit seems a little, mean? For lack of a nicer word. But maybe I'm lost.

There was a whole discourse as to whether it would be polite to ask the price =p. Cris

Hello Bishop,
As Cris stated, I was aware from the beginning that this sword would be up for sale as soon as it was complete. So to answer your question, no, not offended in the least. I'm actually looking forward to the new owner, who ever it may be, getting it into their hands and telling us all what they think :-)
In short, its not uncommon to have a blade mounted to up its value and then resale. We all love swords, but some of us actually are trying to make a living as well as build a collection :-)
Ok, speaking of making a living, I best get to work :-) Take care all,
Skip
P.S. Cris, found your thread about the full length sword. Looking damn good man :-) Cant wait to see how it turns out. Good luck

It's going into heat treat tonight...so wish me luck lol. If all goes well, we're going to see about getting it to you to mount it up, hopefully before March =D. Also, what time would be good to call you today? Need to talk to you about Sensei Rich's sword. Cris
