It's been a bit since I've seen or anything on the outcome of my swords (Nearly 2 years) and it seems like it's kind of a lost cause at this point and I'm debating whether I should take the L on this or wait it out/ maybe ask what's going on.
Communication started off good. Jacky informed me they were having issues with the saya almost a year in and gave me the option to choose a different one. I replied and the emails just stopped. I'm a little disappointed seeing as I paid for a custom Daisho set and was expecting at least a reply on the progress on them.
Has anyone else had a similar issue or is this par for the course?

Similar issue, but thats from over a year ago. Even baiting then with a deposit didn't work. It seems that it is common practice for them to just cut ties. I hope you didn't pay anything yet. However, from what I've heard, unless you didn't get a deposit back without any words, they seem to be still working on you sword.
Although they seem to make good blades, this es exactly the reason why I was always sceptical about them, and won't do business with them again

The reason why I’m staying away from them and stick with the big brands. I would love to own a Huawei sword but this kind of customer service is unacceptable.

I don’t have a Huawei but they look great for the price. Do we know they are in CCP COVID lockdown? Over 373 million are locked down in several large cities and it’s bad. Every kind of possible export is impacted and has been for weeks With ongoing extensions. Believe me, I’d be upset too. The delays with Huawei and repeated lack of communication with Skyjiro have kept me from either.
Btw and FWIW- I’m going on 11 months for a 8 month wait for a US smith and don’t expect anything for another 2-3 months.

What kind of customisations are people ordering that seem to blow out the wait times so much?
I know I have looked at their site and thought to myself that I'd like the blade from this sword with the mountings from that other sword. I'm not sure I'd be tempted to order a custom blade for fear of waiting years, even though I'd like one with a bo-hi and o-kissaki.

I don't think customizations are the only thing that are causing longer wait times. My order is probably around 11 months at this point. The last communication I had with Jacky was a few weeks ago and I was told it would still be a little while. The only customizations I requested were an ito in dark red, and a habaki in silver (just silver colored, I told them it didn't actually need to be silver). Everything else listed for the sword was fine.

Sorry for your wait guys! Hope your swords get done soon and arrive ok. Best wishes! (good swords, bad customer service....but still good swords...so what can you do? When I do a custom order, I pay half down and other half when sword is done and ready to ship. But I doubt that would speed Huawei up any.)

if you think it's gonna be a loss, might as well ask as you have nothing to lose (but your deposit)
i might wait until i hear the latest batch of covid spikes and clear and semprini settles down. say a month or two?

My wait just breached one year. Paid in full for an "In Stock" sword. I do not mind waiting but lack of communication is more than disappointing. The world has been a difficult place for international business in the last year but email seems to work well.

Still waiting here too. I'm not sure how long my order has been in (would need to check email communication), but probably around a year and 2 or 3 months. I'm going to wait until it passes the year and a half mark before reaching out again. I'd just request the order be cancelled, but I really want the sword. So I'll hold out and hope.

mine is coming up on a year and I have moved since I ordered. I sent an email a month ago and no response to my email about my new address.

One wonders, how is it that Huawei, using presumably more advanced methods, in a much more industrialized country, with a much better transport and communications web, has these persisting production and communications problems, and GGK in Nepal just seems to crank out and ship custom sword after custom sword, while staying in close touch with the customers?

Yeah, its weird. On the other end of the spectrum you have Sheng, who has shown mutiple times he is capable of quality work even better than huawei, yet insists on putting out shoddy blades and almost seems to enjoy taking advantage of naive customers who saw his early reviews, even when they pay a premium. Then you have skyjiro who generally makes a good product but has had shady buisness practices long before the pandemic.

And then you have Lk Chen, who make Chinese swords. They have good quality and good customer service. Pity they don’t have a katana in their catalog. Although some of their swords are relatively similar.

Although some of their swords are relatively similar. Exactly, and theyve been exploding in popularity because they are pretty much the only ones providing consistent quality Chinese style blades. I dont get why the others cant do the same lol.
