Whoopps, also of note. I ordered the in stock Dotanuki katana. I didn’t ask for any modifications. Maybe that affects the turn around 🤷🏻♂️ Did you place this order through their website/cart function or did you request it via e-mail?

Hopefully they start moving their products out at a faster pace. I really hope everyone starts getting theirs over the next few weeks.

Did you place this order through their website/cart function or did you request it via e-mail? Right through their website. Added to the cart and paid via PayPal.[/quote so it would seem they either had stock of that particular model all along or they are slowly replacing stock on some of their “stock line”. It gets confusing when discussing their “off the shelf” swords vs what they actually have in stock at the moment. To me, their in stock swords mean their line of swords they have designed and made regularly available in the past, without the need to design them yourself. As I mentioned above, this included several dh options as well as th options, ranging from a couple hundred up to about 800 or so. Now while these could be considered stock since they used to carry many of the same models that were ready to ship, they haven’t actually been in stock for quite a while. So I guess it’s stock models vs in stock inventory. So again, they apparently either still have some of those models (or perhaps designated models?) in their store room from before or they are slowly starting to refill them as they also work on the many custom orders they’ve taken. Whichever it is, I would say if you can actually checkout with a sword on their site, it’s a good indicator that they have it ready to ship. I’ve tried doing this with several models only to see I can’t checkout at the last step as a notice it’s not available pops up. I guess I have to go back and test them all, not that I really want all of the models they offer but just to see what works. I really hope it’s because they are starting to refill and not just because they had some left over from years ago.

Hopefully they start moving their products out at a faster pace. I really hope everyone starts getting theirs over the next few weeks. Having an idea of how the Chinese sellers work, I would guess they have a small inventory of mounted swords that they speculated would sell; and then a larger inventory of bare blades. They'll list something as "in stock" if they have the right blade on hand (and a lot of this has to do with how Shopify and other ecommerce sites work), even if it is not yet mounted.
I would suspect they had already mounted a stock of your dotanuki a while back, and were still going through their existing inventory; meanwhile, custom orders are filled as they get bare blades.
Just my hunch.

this is what I'm talking about as far as whether a "stock model" is actually in stock. I chose one of the swords listed on their site, which in the past could be purchased as is and delivered without a waiting period, at least not for manufacture, just shipping time. I placed it in my cart and tried to check out and pay, only to see the message in red above. I was not able to continue to payment. I'm assuming that it's possible some of these listed swords are actually in stock, whether existing from before or having since been replenished. I also assume that if there are such swords in stock, you'd be able to carry out the complete transaction on the website, as opposed to commissioning it from Jacky via message or email. based on godhand's account of his purchasing experience, he was able to do just that, complete the entire transaction online through the site. so again, I will guess that if that's the case, they either still have some old stock of some models or they've been able to replenish while also fulfilling custom orders. I really hope it's the latter since this would mean they're finally making progress and that one day they will possibly have full stock of these "stock models", ready to ship again.

to add to the above thoughts, I would guess that if they are able to replenish some of their stock models, they're probably doing it in small batches one model at a time. I also know from what Jacky told me years ago that when they do make a custom request for a customer, they typically make several at a time. for one, because sometimes a quench doesn't go well and they have to scrap a blade and two, because if they think it's a design others would want, they will now have multiple to sell. I'm also thinking, if someone ordered a custom that has the same blade proportions as one they've sold before as stock and just requested different ito, fittings or something else other than a difference to the blade, they might take that opportunity to make multiple of that blade to have enough to fill their stock bin as well as for the customer. so far, all of this is just speculation.
so.... if someone has the time, they could try and place every listed sword model on their site into the cart to see if they can proceed or not. then we may know which models could possibly ship right away.

So you would be able to proceed to make payment on these? It gave me the option to checkout. I went so far as to select Paypal, and it didn't complain. I didn't go further as I really don't need to accidentally spend $4,500 right now!

Well, that’s very promising then. Now all someone has to do is order one or a few and see how long it takes to arrive. Thanks for investigating, Kyle 🙂

I wanted to bump this to see if anyone has had communication with Jacky in the last month. I am at 17 months for my "in stock" paid for sword. Id not mind waiting if it is still in que and would prefer the sword to the refund but it would be encouraging to hear that it is still coming.
Thanks, Bill

Thanks for investigating, Kyle 🙂 I almost bought one when I saw this, but now it's too close to the holidays. Hopefully someone will answer this question before the new year. If not, I should have room on the racks for another Huawei by then.

The only thing I've got from Huawei is an old shirasaya blade that they made for me about 5 years ago. It's a dotanuki niku blade that handles worse than some crowbars I've used before, but I've got no doubt I could hack down a sizeable tree with it lol
