I smoke and drink and yeah it slowed me down some and maybe in a long drawn out fight might be a handycap but no more than lazyness or bad diet

This life once, yep. But also, maybe you mean that life is eternal and is a dropping in and out of incarnation, like dipping a pen into ink and writing your story then pondering for a while what your new chapter will be before once again dipping into another continuation of the same ongoing story. I just assumed that "you only live once" meant this present Earthy journey. Sorry I should think more before I post my assumptions.

Religion isn't allowed on the forum mate Never smoke as I find it the worst thing a person can do to themselves willing. Drink a little bit here and there but all things in moderation except the bad stuff like smoking.

Yes but reincarnation theory has no place in sword discussions. Nor is it particularly relevant to smoking and/or drinking...though some would argue "depending on what you're smoking."

Sorry but I did not think it was religious. I am not involved in any religion whatsoever. I guess I in the beginning I was just being pedantic about substance being good or bad. I may have been a bit that way too about "living only once". I do contemplate the links between the physical and spiritual attributes of swordsmanship. To me they begin to meld together after a time practicing an art. I apologize sincerely as it is my comments that have caused a drift.

It can certainly be argued that there is a level of spiritualism inherent in martial arts, for those who wish to explore this aspect of them. Most these days don't pay it much mind, though, which some view as unfortunate. Meh? At any rate, this particular thread isn't actually about anything dealing directly with swords or any martial art...it is a question of mind-and-body-altering substances, and their impact on...well, daily life just as much as any martial art. Although I could do a good bottle of spirits about now, and I may find my outlook on some matters has changed.

heres another thread jack ;D does being overly anal count as ................... being a troll seriously I've seen a disturbing out break of the "high'n'mighty's" and overly anal attitude around here ........ as well as flaming hostility those two things serve no purpose and are killing the scene around here and just for good measure

I hope that wasn't aimed at me sword, I'd be rather disappointed if it was. Sorry for seeing new agism as being on the line of religion. I just feel that if this forum is going to have a no religion policy then that should mean ALL religion, not just christianity.

No substance in itself is bad. Every substance on the Earth has an effect and can be used beneficially or not, as its effect just is. Every substance can be used for healing or ill intent. It is a matter of having knowledge of substances and their effects. Not trying to be argumentative, Raven. I'd like to know what the beneficial aspect of smoking tobacco would be?

Think of the Peace Pipe. Tobacco(smoking) can be used to quell panic where someone needs to cut off from losing themselves in an insecure environment and protect their inner peace. It is used better as a specially highy diluted tincture for nausea, vomiting. Also it has antiseptic qualities that are antidotal to cholera germs. These are just a few things.
I would never recommend smoking it as a habit as it is addictive and a poison. But as a substance it has many uses as most poisons do. Gotta go, be back after training.

Genesis 1:12 . . . just because the big guy called it good doesn't mean it's good for us. US Navy and Coast Guard until recently would put cigarettes in life boats. not because they wanted the guys to be able to relax while abandoning ship, but because when doing so one is not allowed to eat or drink for the first 24 hours and cigarettes dull hunger.

Hey, I am back! Did you miss me? I guess the physical ramifications of this situation , is that it is beneficial in reducing hunger. The mental ones are that one can relax the thought of worry about hunger and food. But hopefully there is water to cool off that hot dry mouth. I am just being playful now as I just had my fix of sword activity and am approaching normal beneficence again. Tameshigiri (cutting )tomorrow.

By the way , I know of several very high dan, I mean very high dan Japanese Sensei, Renshi, Kyoshi and Hanshi that drink heaps and smoke even more. I don't judge it, I would love to be taught sword arts from them.

Marijuana doesn't have an anti bacterial action for cholera, but besides that tobbaco as a substance has a differnt drug picture. Look in a Materia Medica. I agree that smoking in the general vernacular is detrimental( don't do it) but I am talking about the plant substance and its possible uses. Tobacco has its own unique sphere of action as all plants do and can be used for the benefit of those ailing. I just wish to put across that nothing is just black and white. Nothing in the world of plants is good or bad, it just is. It is how we use it.
