I do find it depressing that the culture war has become so all-pervasive that even on a sword forum the worry is about this crap instead of, you know, whether they're going to put on better sword fighting with better swords. Or whether they're going to get rid of those preposterous back scabbards ;-) Seriously, if they do THAT I will be both amazed and impressed!

Honestly, I always imagined Ciri as sort of Persian/Iranian looking, not stereotypical British white like many fantasy characters. So ironically almost literally Caucasian instead of "White"(whatever that even means). I want to clarify that I am not at all opposed to a diverse cast and in fact prefer it. It's just when politics drive a script instead of storytelling it almost always turns into a disaster.

Oh, the back scabbards Witchers use is supposed to be abnormal. It is specifically designed to make them seem ever more abnormal and potentially dangerous so people actually pay them instead of cheating them. AT least that is the implication in the books.

But, of course, the problem with that is that to anyone who knows about swords it just looks kinda stupid.

Martin in that he does do a ton of research to make things generally realistic, but adds fantasy flair for entertainment purposes. Or simply gets the research wrong sometimes lol.

Well, here we have it, Ciri and Yennefer and several others have been cast, looks wise these seem like they could be good picks, can't say I know much about them as actors.
Freya Allan (Left) as Ciri and Anya Chalotra (Right) as Yennefer

Yennefer's actress looks like the kid version of yennefer, I can see the ciri tho I thought they were going with a minority non white person for ciri what happened to that idea? Dont get me wrong tho I'm glad ciri looks more accurate to past works. Yennefer however just looks like a kid, wonder if makeup will change that idk

The leak must have been fake, there was some talk that it was, I totally agree Yennefer looks young..Hopefully makeup will change it, she does have the face and looks for her she just lacks about 10 years on her.
The main writer has come out and said many times now that she's very focused on maintaining the polish and slav culture through the series, she's respecting where it came from, gives me hope.

It wasn't a leak, it was an open casting call. But, seriously, BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) is not a euphemism for dark skinned people. Often it just means they're looking for someone with an "exotic" look. And of course it was a casting call, nothing more. When they find a good actor outside the stated parameters they'll often pick 'em regardless, studio execs allowing...

Seriously, BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) is not a euphemism for dark skinned people. "A number of terms have been used, by government and more generally, to refer to the collective ethnic minority population. These include "black and minority ethnic" (BME), "black, Asian and minority ethnic" (BAME) and "black and ethnic minority" (BEM). These terms have been criticised on a number of grounds, including for excluding national minorities such as the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish from the definition of ethnic minorities, for suggesting that black people (and Asian people, with BAME) are racially separate from the ethnic minority population, and for including under a single label heterogenous groups with little in common with each other."
It kinda seems like it is, unless the definition has changed.
She is however British and Caucasian so she's not BAME either way. Either the leak was fake or they just ended up picking the better actress regardless of nationality.

The actress for Ciri looks pretty spot on, facial structure very evocative of young ciri from Wild Hunt.
Yennefer's actress is an interesting choice, and a bit more spot-on than I would've thought. While she does appear younger than some would expect (especially given her more mature appearance in the video game), she was described in the books, particularly her first appearance in the Last Wish, as resembling a young woman in her twenties. So a fair casting call given that a lot of time and drama passed between the short stories and the events in Wild Hunt.

It kinda seems like it is, unless the definition has changed. Seeing as how it covers everyone from Ainu to Zwahili, I don't see how that makes sense. The terminology is problematic in many ways, but it's deliberately not based on skin color in specific and covers some of the palest people on the planet. I really don't see why people ever got so worked up about this. I mean, OK, yeah I do for some people, but I like to think better of people in general... Again, it was not a leak, it was a National Youth Theatre ad listing calling for applicants for the role.

Here is a great picture of the actress that will play Yennefer. All I can say is “holy cow! It’s Yennefer from the books!” Also, really really hot, like she should be.

DANG, in that picture she looks exactly like how Yen should look. Great casting call, with the longer curled hair she fits the character perfectly. Now, if one of her shoulders is just slightly higher than the other, I'll be particularly impressed
