Islamic text on a historic English sword? Why would they do that? That would be like putting English text on a historic Japanese katana. Do not understand. Hey Blade Runner. Ronin Katana updated their Facebook page. It said that these swords, including the Alexandria, will be available in early March, and that you have the option of getting an Alexandria with or without the text. That's cool. No text for me. I definitely plan on making a March purchase! Nice! Thanks Tanc, for update. Look forward to it. Here is a link to a video about the actual sword: www.christies.com/features/Discovery-Bashford-Dean-sword-6932-3.aspxAnd here is a link to a discussion about the sword and the inscription on the blade: myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?p=305499

Not one of their new models but received my medieval 2-handed saber today. Actually much better than I was expecting.

I have dry handled it and it does not seem heavy.

If so, I was looking at that one as well, but the furniture just didn't do it for me; the guard in particular. I really like the blade's profile though; again, if this is the sword I think it is. Looks like it would be a fun cutter...

Yup, that's the one. It's listed as a kriegsmesser on the SBG store I believe. Again, I love the blade's profile. I wish it had a messer style hilt.

I've been blabbering for months about the Alexandria, but I think the mulifullered fishtail longsword is going to steal my heart. It may already have.

Windlass used to make a couple of fishtail pommel swords back in the day. I thought they looked pretty nice, and I wish I would have picked up at least one of them. Haven't been available in forever. They did make a katzbalger with a pommel that was sort of fishtail looking. I did get one of those. As for a definite fishtail, I got a used DSA one, which is nice enough. Pommel looks almost exactly like this Ronin one. As for this Ronin one, I'm not crazy about the guard or the placing of the spacer and where the wasting begins on the hilt. I think the placement is much better on whichever model is the second/middle pic. I really like the hilt on the Ronin Alexandria, as compared to the one Albion makes. Just going by sight here, as I've never seen or held either in person. Ronin kept the slimmer looking hilt it seems, while the Albion has multiple spacers and a hexagonal hilt. That makes it look fatter than the original. Can't quite tell from pics if the Ronin pommel is true to the original. It seems most of the new Ronin Euro models with round pommels all have the same pommel. Either way, I should be finding out some time this year. Plan on ordering the Ronin as soon as its available, and the Albion should be at my door late Summer/early Fall hopefully. You'll have to let us know what you think if you get the Ronin fishy, 28shadow.

You may be on to something....that hexagon cross section is too nice. I really hope these things turn out to be winners. The last new model from another maker (not RK) that hit the market that I jumped on, that I thought would be a winner, was a bit of a let down.

Here's a nice look at all of them. Check out that blade profile on the multi-fullered one. Hold the phone. Is that a hexagonal profile on a production sword? XIX-ish? Yeow. I didn't see that from earlier pictures. Seems they are really going for some types and blades that don't have 'lower-end' production homes. That's probably a good way to make some money.

If RK has gotten the distal taper right on these I can see them being stupid good, especially for the <$450 price point. The alexandria is supposed to be the most expensive in the 400s, while the other two are to be in the mid to high 300s.

Well, the taper was certainly present and fine for the Euro #7. It was a little heavy-feeling, but it's also pretty tough as far as swords of that length go. The crusader sword looks like it has similar taper specs. Not sure about the two newer ones.

Nice catch saix1 - I'd be ordering one of those Alexandria-types now, if I didn't have a costly order finishing up.

I definitely am a huge fan of that too - but until I have my Malatesta in hand - I've tried to promise myself not to get anything else. -_-
