With so many truly exceptional sword designs submitted to the competition, narrowing it down from 26 swords selected from the first shortlist to the four winners announced below has been a very difficult process.
If we had an unlimited budget, I would happily make all 26 designs - but alas, an unlimited budget we have not. And after much deliberation, I have finally decided on the first four designs we will bring to life..
Before I announce the first round winners - I wanted to take a moment to thank each and every person who submitted a design to the contest and to remind you all that even if you were not selected this time around, there will be a round 2 from this competition and quite possibly a round 3 - YOUR DESIGN MAY STILL GET MADE! So please do not delete your entries, you are STILL IN THE DRAW for the next round (believe me, out of the four swords I settled upon. there were at least another 4 that came within a hairs breadth of being made.. We are only scratching the surface with round one..)
So without any further ado - here are our four winners of round one of the competition, presented in no particular order.
This piece really stood out to me - and is clearly going to be the current issue Gladius of the Imperial Army.

I am not entirely convinced it is a 'longsword' - and will need to clarify the stats, but this awesome design is crying out to be made.

There is just SOMETHING about this design that really spoke to me - a solid name that conjures up images of a crazy sharp blade, the regal design, the hollow ground or diamond ground blade.. Probably the only thing I am not 100% on is the blue colored handle wrap. Otherwise, it is good to go - and will definitely need to focus on sharpness with this baby..

Stunning design, great artistry, and amazingly detailed backstories to all his submissions - it should come as no surprise that one of his submissions should make the the grade. Should probably differentially harden this one and it looks like it is like a cross between a Kogarasu Zukuri Katana and a Naginata.
NEXT STEPS
From here I have created a board to discuss each sword in the competition and refine the designs with stats, missing details etc BEFORE we submit to the forge to produce the actual swords to go out to their respective designers. This board will also be used to discuss and flesh out the Fantasy World that all of our swords will originate in.
Once we are certain that our specifications are crystal clear, we will submit the swords to the forge and update their work in progress with pics from the forge so that feedback can be provided as we go to make sure the designs are on the right track. We will then take photos of the completed prototypes to get the designer final ok and once the prototype has been shipped out and approved by the owner, we will produce a limited run of around 10 swords per design - and while they are in production - move on to the round 2 finalists..
So again, congratulations to the round one winners and thank you again for all the other excellent submissions. Remember - even if your design was not selected THIS round, there are more rounds to go and it is not over yet. Not by a longshot.
Enjoy the process guys!
Now I am off to make the necessary sub forums and contact everyone who won by email to let them know the good news. Will update you all again presently.
