Fantasy Kriegmesser - "Pride" 37 inch blade, 12 inch handle, steel guard and pommel There is nothing more that can be said of this sword. Some say it was forged in the heart of the world, by black dwarves who imbued the blade with their evil. Some say fiery metal fell from the sky and was used by the greatest swordsmith of the age to craft the weapon that would bring about an end to all conflict. Some say that it stood at the breaking of the world, dividing paradise and what we know to be real, wielded by the Winged Ones who keep an eternal vigil against all who would dare pass into the divine sanctuary. Whatever the case may be, it is known that the sword was wielded by an unknown knight who traveled the world who fought in all possible wars. A rogue one, with no loyalty to lord nor land, he joined whichever side felt more just and fought so ferociously and killed so many other warriors, he was known as the Knight of the Crimson Veil. And this sword was his Pride.

So, I've seen several submissions for Necromancer Swords, and I've got a few designs in a similar vein. Click to enlarge, sorry about how dark they came out. "At its core, Necromancy is about repurposing; using the unlikely in a new way that furthers the art. A mob of peasants? Test subjects. Their bodies? An army. Their bones? Tools. Their weapons? Our weapons. And it is these weapons that represent our ability to repurpose. What they carried into the field to harvest, or cut small trees, or slice their meat, we use to reap, flay, and dissect. And of course, when paladins, or bounty hunters dare enter our domains, they will be unprepared for our way of fighting. Our blades that hook, and catch. Our handles made of femurs, that stun them in disgust. Our reanimated army, that makes room in the ranks for a new addition... " So, the basics is that it's a human femur (synthetic eventually, of course) with various types of blades mounted through it. Ideally, the tang would run through the bone, and be secured with some kind of peen block. The size of the handle is long in comparison to the blade. This is a slight imitation of TFW blades, which also have long handles. However, they stay light, and, true to their agricultural nature, can be used for common tasks. All of these designs are single edged, and vastly favour cutting. A necromancer would need a versatile arsenal of tools to conduct his unholy work. The long handle also gives room for decorations, scrimshaw work, wrappings, chapes, bands, pins, and ferrules. Maybe I'll redesign a few with those decorative elements in mind. For now these are just rough concepts. And yes, they're incredibly grim and grotesque. But that's kind of the point

In this design, i have incorporated fantaasy sword style spikes that do not make the sword unusable but add to the function of the sword. This is a sword inspired by bolognese style sideswords. The spikes on the guard are on the side away from the hand and do not point toward the hand. A larger spike forms the finger ring common on these types of swords. Additional spines on the strong of the blade prevent an opponent's blade from slipping into the finger ring and injuring the user. The spines on the blade and guard should also work to snag and opponent's blade during the bind. There are hollow cut outs in the blade in place of a fuller, which should help lighten the blade. This is a feature sometiimes seen in renaissance sideswords and rapiers. The hilt fittings are blued and the blade has a dull grey patina. A blade length of 34 inches would do well on this sword. As for a backstory, this would likely be the weapon of an evil, sneaky and intelligent foe.

_ The Dusk Wind’s Goad: The men who lived among the Demons’ Teeth below the mountain holdfasts had herded their stock for longer than time remembered. It was only in the shaded mazes at the base of those black stone pillars that their scaled mounts could make their home out of the hard sunlight. The beasts were short and slight, well suited for stalking, and could leap to strike from cover in those close confines with their powerful limbs and tail. A skilled rider could use a well pointed goad to direct them towards man or beast alike, and the men in the mountains were loathe to pass among the Teeth. In time, the lure of trade from the far steppes proved too strong, and the men in the mountains came down to put the men of the Teeth under the yoke as they had done with so many others. They made their camps in the open where the sun shone strongest, and they were safe as long as day held. It was by the sound of the dry winds that whistled through the Teeth at dusk that they learned. The men of the Teeth rode their scaled mounts on those winds as the sun’s rays faded and sprang through the tight ranks of their foes. The edge and point of their goads were keen, and the men from the mountain fell to claw and blade, their glaives and spears useless. The design: The overall length of the sword is 70cm with a grip of approximately 15cm. It has a full tang with dark wood scales. The profile suggests that this sword would be heavy with lots of blade presence, but the thin tip and complex distal taper should help keep it quick and handy. The spine is 6mm at the base of the blade, tapers slightly to 5mm where the bevel transitions to a full flat grind, and then tapers quickly to 2mm at the first of the back points. From there, the blade is essentially flat to the tip for very effective shearing cuts. The edge is only sharpened along the front of the blade, but the points are all thin enough to make wicked impact points on a back swing. The blade is 38mm wide at the base and 100mm at the widest point from the edge to the first back spike.

OK, one more from me. This is something between a saber and a falchion. The blade is a heavy chopper, with the first 12" of the back edge sharpened, and a sharp hook.

I'm not an artist, but I photoshoped a couple of swords together. The first one is a fountain pen style short sword. The central line and circle would be a fuller. The second one is a falcata with a fantasy Spartan hilt.

Two more designs from me. Asher thought it appropriate to use a bastard sword, even a bit amusing. Seventh son to King Lothaire and exiled after accidentally killing Sion, Lothaire's third son and favored for the throne, Asher remembered life in the palace with disdain. Nothing but whimpering sycophants angling for some favor or other from Lothaire, who himself had despised Asher from the moment his birth lost him his beloved wife. His mother had named him Gwyn, as there have long been superstitions abound about the auspicious nature of seventh sons, and only his love for his queen led Lothaire to keeping his word and naming him according to her wishes... But following the incident that ended with Sion's death, he was rechristened Asher because, in his father's words, "only death and ashes follow in his wake". Personally, Asher took that as a challenge, taking to a life as a rogue; it was a lucrative life, all things told. From the time he could hold a sword until his banishment, a period of about 14 years, he relentlessly studied swordsmanship under the palace tutors, demanding they bring in outside masters when they failed to keep up with his hunger to learn. He spent several years learning the longsword from Master Sylio Lightbringer before Sion and Rhys, the fourth son, cornered him after practice, feeling he'd gotten a little too big for his britches and were determined to teach him a lesson. By the end of it, despite using rebated steel, Rhys had several broken bones and Sion was on the ground, choking on his own blood. Having been trained mostly in dueling, young Gwyn had never studied how to fight more than one opponent and had gone somewhat... Feral on them. He didn't really regret the event, as only Lewys, of all his brothers, hadn't given him a beating at one point or another; but he didn't attribute that to kindness on Lewys' part, only his sixth brother's inability to extricate his nose from a book. Following his banishment, oh, he'd learned very well how to fight multiple opponents thanks to the church of the street and the ever present worshipers crawling about in the mud and filth, eager to pick clean anyone better off than them. When Lothaire had put him out of the palace, he'd given him 100 crowns and told him to leave the kingdom as fast as he could. Were he caught inside their borders after 24 hours had passed, he would be executed on the spot. Asher had promptly gone to the nearest swordsmith and bought a simple short sword and a room at a nearby inn, blatantly flaunting Lothaire's commands. The next morning, four members of the constabulary had gathered in his room, roughly shaking him awake, intending to enforce that whole "execution" bit of the king's orders; Asher's room had been barely large enough to fit a bed and a chest and the fools had packed themselves inside, giving each other no room to move. Asher killed two before they knew he was awake and stabbed the other two while they tried to get their swords out. Without remorse or hesitation, he stole all the money and valuables they had, giving the innkeeper the coin by way of an apology. He then paid the Lord Constable a visit, eluding his guards as though waltzing in the dark, and relieved him of much of his coin, a princely sum of 1,264 crowns; he did this in full view of the Lord Constable and his shockingly young mistress while his wife slept in the next room. Oh, the Lord blustered and promised retribution... Right up until Asher launched the Lord's letter opener at his head, narrowly missing him. Stroke of luck, that, Asher having no experience with projectile weapons. Afterwards, Asher spent most of the Lord's coin on outfitting himself with his own, personal sword, made to his exacting specifications. A bastard sword of similar length and weight as he had learned to use under Master Sylio's tutelage, with a similar quadruple side-ring crosspiece, but there the differences outweighed the similarities. Instead of a straight, double edged blade, his new sword had a curved, single edged blade, though it retained the diamond cross-section; it had a narrow fuller running most of its length, but what differentiated it from most was the fact it was slightly offset from the center of the blade, something he had seen on Master Sylio's personal sword. The pommel was a rounded teardrop of blackened steel, matching the guard, as was the ring in the center of the grip, itself wrapped in oxblood leather. A matching scabbard had also been provided when he'd had the blade forged. In the years since, the nobility had learned to fear the calling of Asher and the Bastard. Their guards were as ribbons of scarlet silk before his skills and many would lay down their arms upon identifying him. That was as it should be. Neither Asher nor the Bastard had any love of harming those who had prostrated themselves before him. And always, always the constabulary was so "conveniently" a step too slow to catch him. When Lothaire had the previous Lord Constable executed for incompetence, Asher had gone to the man's favorite pub and raised a toast to the man, disgusted at the king's idiocy. Perhaps it was, at long last, to visit home once more... Like with my Amalgam entry, I decided to put the specs in an image as opposed to my usual practice: Paladins. The noblest of callings a person could aspire to; they protect us from the Eosaura, those great cataclysms that roam the land. Nearly forty tons of bones, muscles, and teeth, the Eosaura are carnivorous beasts constantly searching for sustenance to fuel their hulking bodies lest they starve, threatening to wipe entire villages from the map in a single evening and it takes weapons as equally mighty to pierce their thick hides. That's why each Paladin is armed with a greatsword, the likes of which has been emulated, but never duplicated thanks to the secrets of their forging being heavily guarded. Massive weapons, they have long, broad blade to better hack through an Eosaura's hide, though their tips are surprisingly narrow, allowing them to attempt a thrust at the Eosaura's vital organs, but as almost two and a half feet of muscle and bone protect those organs, such a thing is folly. The blades have complex fullering along much of the blade whose purpose is just as much decorative as it is functional, reducing weight without sacrificing strength. Their guards are wide and stepped arcs, each one longer as it gets further from the blade, while the pommel is shaped in the likeness of a tortoise's shell combined with a stone flower; both are made from heavily polished brass to make them as noticeable as possible while being relatively maintenance free. However, it is the grip that is the most distinct part of these huge weapons. Below the guard, the grip is wrapped in vibrant cobalt leather and waisted in the center, but following the center point of the grip, it is wrapped in white leather with gold wire spiraling from one end to the other. Such a blade is also carried by Carileph, Radiant Warrior of Cinders, foremost of the Paladins, aiding in the destruction of nearly two dozen Eosaura. Contrary to what such a large weapon might suggest, the Paladins do not go into battle in heavy plate armor, but in simple silks and leathers; before the might of the Eosaura, such heavy armor is little more than a placebo. Carileph is no exception. Over his gold and blue silks, he wears boiled leather dyed a pristine white for greatest visibility. As the Eosaura are, to a one, nigh on fifteen feet tall at the shoulder, their giant quadrupedal forms covered in thick scales and gems, with gaping maws lined with rows of serrated teeth, and long, whip like tails that can crush a man's bones in a single swipe, as well as thick limbs that grant it shocking mobility, and a heavy, triangular head at the end of a long, thick neck, its mouth filled with teeth capable of snapping man's arm from his body, steel casing or no; before such fearsome beasts, is it any wonder the Paladins have taken to utilizing such titanic blades? And the specs:

Uggghhh god Paul you WOULD start a contest starring the kryptonite to all in my bag of whimsy (aka Bag of Holding to ye fellow D&D fans)!! Alas I was a king amongst dungeon masters back in the day, and have two mighty swords to introduce to the yet unborn world of fantasy swords.....well "functional" Fantasy Swords, Ahem. We all know what would happen if any dared to swing a Kit Rae Sword at.....well anything really!! Awesome designs for sure, but ultimately useless against the forces of evil.

Yet the history of Midorian steel is clouded in secret. These twin swords are the only artefacts of Midorian master craftsmanship, laboriously forged with the impending danger of dragon fire.
Specs: 23 inch blade, 29 inches overall
Notes: Patched leather grip, brass triangle feature leans with tips touching the middle of the blade

Milligang RayovakEasy to wield, difficult to master, comfortable both in the hands of an amateur and in the hands of a master, and applicable to most if not all martial arts. These were the challenges given to the mage-smiths of the Aleutian Empire by its greatest swordsman and duelist, Mura the Swordsage. The challenge itself had another purpose; The Empire needed a signature weapon that could be used by all martial arts from the many provinces it had conquered. Hundreds of smiths proposed their design and thousands of blades were tested and found wanting. Still none had succeeded. Until finally one blade was chosen from a source no one had expected- a woman- and she wasn’t even a mage-smith nor was she a martial artist. Shaira the Traveller had met warriors from dozens of different cultures and perhaps hundreds of different martial arts in her journey. Though by no means a master in any form of martial arts, she had witnessed a common thread amongst these martial arts and had designed a blade in her spare time. This blade was later forged by an apprentice mage-smith instead of a master and submitted to the contest, never once expected to win. After the announcement, Shaira only requested 3 things as a reward; Citizenship in the Empire, Royalty from any swords produced and Mura’s hand in marriage. All three were granted. The sword was later given a name that could be easily pronounced in all languages; Juyo. (it is pronounced Iu-yōu in some dialects) Juyo entered the halls of legend a year and a day after it was forged. The Aleutian Empire was facing its first and thus far deadliest rebellion in its long history. The resource-rich island nations to the southeast declared sovereignty and called themselves the Kingdom of Colamandala. The rebels managed to push back the Aleutian forces and conquered three quarters of the southeastern islands and was in the process of besieging the fortress and trade city of Avolire. After months of war without progress, Colamandala had successfully gathered international support for its declaration of independence. However, the Aleutian Emperor would not displace his empire’s borders so easily. He proposed a treaty by duel of each nation’s best warriors. If Colamandala wins, they will have the entire island chain. If Aleutia wins, Colamandala only gets the three quarters they had successfully ‘retaken’ and has to pay for 70% all damages caused by the war. Swordsage Mura who wielded the Juyo battled the Colamandalan Kingdom’s champion Akassir who wielded a curved double-edged blade called the Castir in a duel beneath the city walls that lasted 16 hours. After the final hour, the exhausted Akassir dropped his blade and lost the duel. Though the duel ended without blood being spilt (a miracle in its own right) Akassir vowed to defeat Mura and to perfect his own swordsmanship before their fated rematch. The same Juyo blade that had carved a mark in history is currently in possession of the Deathless Witch, Akira Kosakami. How she had obtained it – and the fate of Mura himself – is a question only the gods and Akira herself could answer… Juyo barely weighs 2 kilograms, fully fitted. The first Juyo that was forged had a 14-inch long handle with a 31-inch-long differentially hardened blade. The handle only had rayskin without a handle wrap. This was because the mage-smith who forged it forgot to buy the handle-wrap. The mass-produced Juyo blades will often copy the dimensions of the original or is altered according to the customer’s preference. The mass production version’s blade isn’t differentially hardened unless the customer wishes it to be (and pays extra). The sheath could either be wooden or leather, it’s blade design made both materials possible. The shape of the blade and generous length of the handle allowed numerous ways of holding it. In other words, applicable to all martial arts. It could be used for stabbing, slashing and chopping with equal ease and even a total amateur could wield the blade with some degree of success. Any owner of the blade can opt to switch its default cross-guard for a circular guard (ala Katana) or even a small (Jian-style) hand-guard with ease. The sketch above was drawn by an amateur and its handle size is not according to scale (I drew it).The Juyo blade drawn above is the one Mura used to defeat Akassir and is drawn with Akira’s permission. A foot soldier’s blade would have a thicker cross-guard made of iron and less ornate. An officer’s Juyo would have fittings made of brass or silver according to rank. A ceremonial Juyo would have fittings made of gold and would have many ornate engravings on the fittings and the blade. Pictures of Juyo swords with circular or square-shaped hand guards also exist. These are usually privately owned and modified according to the owner’s preference. Prigos

Just a clarification; I am RAYOVAK. I sent my design to Paul because my account hadn't been approved by the forum staff in over 24 hours. the sketches and design by RAYOVAK are mine. I hope that can clarify any misunderstandings. Any further designs I upload will be done through this account and by this username. Thank you EDIT: my swords' lore contains a narrative. Reading them in order will eventually reveal a connecting story and more details of the world they're featured in.

And the specs: Really liking that bastard saber. Since the warder left Valiant Armory, there really hasn't been a good one on the market. If it gets made, I am definitely in for one....it hits all the buttons, complex hilt, grip riser.....well, if there was a metal spacer in the grip there it would be even better....

This is a replica of Deal Maker, the invincible blade of Geoffrey Nakamura, Most High Constable of the Imperial Throne of NipponEuro, Inc. in the fourteenth century Post Corporate Domination era on Earth VII. Forged for Geoffrey by legendary deaf and blind swordsmith and merchant banking guru Brian Ichiguru from a mysterious metal ore found at the core of a fallen meteorite, and quenched in the blood of mortgage defaulters, the weapon rapidly accrued interest as tales of its apparent invincibility in Geoffrey’s hands spread throughout the Global Market. Trained from his adolescent years in the ways of combat and investment banking by a mystical sect of financial manager-warriors in a remote enclave reputed to be somewhere near East Grinstead, Geoffrey became the most famous and accomplished Corporate Head Hunter of his time; as Most High Constable he was charged with protecting the net worth of the Empire and the persons of Chief Imperial Officer His Majesty the Most Holy Simon Kawasaki, and the Board of the Imperial Directorate. With his deadly Deal Maker in his hands, and leading a formidable army of warrior-lawyers known and feared throughout the Market as The Negotiators, Geoffrey was the mastermind behind the defeat of the Great Hostile Takeover Bid of P.C.D. 1412, which was attempted by Merger and Acquisition forces of SinUSCorp Amalgamated under the command of General Manager Leung Ho Hackenbush. Geoffrey took the head of Hackenbush after a resounding and decisive victory at the long-fought and bloody Battle of the Field of Unsecured Derivatives, presenting it to his C.I.O. in a grand gesture of unmistakable implacability that has successfully deterred any other Raiders from considering a like takeover bid in all the years since. Until his untimely death in P.C.D.1435, reputedly due to extreme exposure following a series of ill-advised investments that went severely pear-shaped, Geoffrey Nakamura remained undefeated in Corporate conflict and was never seen in public without Deal Maker strapped to his hip. The sacred bond between warrior and weapon being held inviolate under Corporate Law even unto the Realm of Eternal Liquidity, Deal Maker was interred with the body of its owner, by order of C.I.O. Kawasaki, in a location which has been kept a closely-guarded secret to this day.

Overall length of 46" with a 34" blade. Steel accents and a burgundy leather handle wrap. I call this one "The Saber of the Foreigner" Story: Tales come and go about the foreigner, who traveled these lands as a wandering swordsman. Said to possess the speed of a lightening strike, with a sword which was kept honed to the sharpness of a straight razor. He never spoke to anyone, but many knew him as the body guard to the ruler of the fallen kingdom. Some say his devotion was so strong he refused the offer of employment by the conquering kingdom and instead chose the life of a wandering vegabond, living off whatever he rummages from the corpses of those who attempt to kill him.

The flavor text for my sword design.
...and there was "Leynclaw, the sword of Sit-Sarcal", lying inconspicuously
among the vast treasure found in the lair of the fallen dragon. Said to be
forged on the legendary Anvil of Brol by Brol himself, this was the blade
given to the bloodline of Sit-Sarcal and served them faithfully until their
ancient kingdom passed into oblivion. Over two thousand years and no battle
has tarnished its steel, and no stone can improve its deadly edge.
It is said that when the trumps of war blow, the blade begins to glow...

Wow, what a thread! It's been awhile since I've been on here, but there are some designs here I couldn't pass up if they ever went into production.
leviathansteak: Your first posted sword, the one-handed version...looks amazing!
thesylvansmith: The Quill of Sylvanus is really nice, a bit longer blade but same proportions and I'd snatch it up in an instant!
Teurma: The first version of the sword is really impressive, I'd have a hard time not buying it!
Crocofixio: Shrike...badass! Give it a bit more of a pointed diamond-shaped form at the COP to match the guards, like a wasp-waisted gladius and you'd have one hell of a blade!
Djinnobi (Venus): The Saber of the Foreigner...wow! Really liking that design! ________________________________________________________________________________________________ But the winner in my book, with the best design(s) so far is Vincent Dolan!
Vincent...you have three pieces I think have some of the best aesthetics I've seen in a long, long time!
The absolute best sword design so far has to be your bastard saber...hands down, irresistible!
Paul, PLEASE get this sword into production! It's damn near 'shut up and take my money!' territory!
