Cheer up, little camper. It's only FB, no one in their right mind takes it seriously.:)

It's ok. I'm sure I can be an anal-pirate, but I try to do the right thing. If it makes you feel any better, me and Donnie are getting along in a thread that is purely making fun of me and him arguing.

I like a good girl fight as much as the next guy.

Sorry, Mikee, I dont argue on FB. It's pointless, I've yet to see someone change someone elses mind. Besides, I love ya man, but you did pick that fight. So true. Ironically... I've discovered the reason I argue and the reason most people argue are vastly different. Apparently most people argue to impose their opinion on others and feel vindicated in being right. I argue hopping to be convinced/persuaded by another person and to adopt a new view/opinion. Think about it... when you argue... and you are proved 'right' and sway another person to your line of thinking... what do you gain? You have no new knowledge, no new perspective... nothing changes for you. If, however, in the course of an argument with another you come to a new way of thinking, learn something you didn't know before, gain new perspective... YOU change... you GROW. Yes please. In discussing this with several of my friends... I've learned I'm the only one of my friends that has this opinion... makes me curious... any of you guys and gals out there feel this way?

I like to think I'm open to change but I don't know how true that is. I do love my opinions not in the least because they are mine. But why not? Do not my experiences form them? Sometimes but not always.
Some of my beliefs I hold just because I have them. Knowing this I have had my mind changed in rare occasions. My wife changed my mind on one of the big social issues years ago and I took a lesson in how set my opinions get.
I have been brought to a different view on Facebook as well but nothing profound.
I have found I learn nothing when my mouth is moving.

To clarify, While I avoid argument as nonproductive, I do enjoy discussion. Discussion becomes argument when it is repetitive or abusive.
Also, I will occasionally take someone to task for their enlightenment and my personal pleasure.

I was blissfully unaware of the Facebook page. Let me be polite and just say that I won't be going back there. Facebook really brings out the worst in people.
As said: Fighting on the internet is, at best, a waste of time. Your opinion isn't going to change and you're not going to change the other person's mind. Discussion is a good thing. Fighting is not. All I saw there was fighting. Mike, you know better!
Maybe it's a good thing to have that Facebook page. Leave it to those lacking the social graces to have an intelligent conversation and learn from others. Those that want to learn and share knowledge can come here.

To clarify, While I avoid argument as nonproductive, I do enjoy discussion. Discussion becomes argument when it is repetitive or abusive. Also, I will occasionally take someone to task for their enlightenment and my personal pleasure. I politely disagree. As a hs English teacher (14th year), I teach my students that everything is an argument, but not every argument is worth their or my time. My AP students in particular need to understand how to write coherent essays which has a strong argument they have to prove through well thought out examples and through the use of counterarguments for any concessions made in their essays. I'm also my school's debate coach (8th year), where I teach my debaters about how to make strong cases by making a claim, using strong data to back up their claim(s), and having a warrant (or warrants) that interprets the data and shows how the data supports the claim. Now, are all arguments good? Hell no. But, I'd say that healthy debate will bring more knowledge to the table instead of just letting the other person(s) win without respectful disagreement on the topic. What I've seen of late on the FB page is people bashing each other based mostly on anger and preconceived notions. Those are not good debates/argumentation - rather, they're just a pi$$ng contest. My argument is this: if you don't like a person or a thread either here or on the FB page, just leave it be. If you can't, then try to be as polite as you can when debating without resorting to attacking another person(s), hijacking the thread, or deflecting blame on someone/something else. I'm not picking sides (not worth it IMHO because like I mentioned above, not all arguments are inherently good), and I'll just leave it at that.
