You're coming to NY? I can get access to two of Lance Chans RSW's if you are. It'll be fun. You can stay at my place for a few nights to save on hotel costs. Or you guys could meet in the middle. Say...Texas? I'd provide the facility and take video if you like. And a good hospital is only a mile away.

I vote for shootermike's plan. It's a neutral location and I'm still dying to try out his Albion Laird.

Texas may be neutral location for you guys, but for us Canadians it's "hostile territory!" I'd be really curious to take some WMA if it were available in my area. The SCA does hold events, but I'm not sure if I'd be good at that; I have too many learned habits. All of my training in Jiu-Jitsu thus far has been about quickly and decidedly ending a real-life modern confrontation (i.e. groin shots, etc), so most of that would be pretty useless in a WMA context. Unless your instructors encourage you to give people a hit to the squish, which in the right context can be hi-larious. And now no one will ever want to duel me...

If I agree to the weapon AND you explain to me what a squish is - MAYBE. ;D

I used to train with kempo guys. First thing they always try to do is smash in your balls - I'll duel you Mr. Sinclair.
heck, I'll duel anyone on this forum or anyone you put in front of me. I'm always willing to get new experiences.

Heh - alvin, the squish is my favorite funny term for "balls", as Adam pointed out.
Adam - my only real weapons training was with knives, a little bit with sticks and a few memorable classes with piano wire (don't ask). I own a bokken but I'm pretty sure you'd waste me big time at any duel, unless I could use a knife or dagger and was faster than you (which is getting more doubtful by the day; I haven't taken any classes in a couple years and my job is really not very "physically exerting").

As the person who has been challenged, tradition is that I get to choose place, time and weapons form Adam, as a 36 year old man with real property, I have to be conscience of your safety (and not getting sued by your parents). I can't use a steel blunt on you unless you have proper armor. I have enough armor here in NY that might make it possible to use wooden wasters. If we can't come up with enough armor for steel or wood, then we will have to use padded weapons and we can beat on each other all day with those with just fencing masks.

Indeed - I've been moved out and on my own for sometime(about a year and a half total independence), though I thank you for your concern for my safety.
I have used steel, and I have used wood. The reason I don't like RSW's is because of how thick they are - they make catching a blade with your crossguard more a chore than is usual(even with wood) and you can't grab both blades at the same time for certain disarms.
If you choose 'em though, i'm honor bound to accept. Your house will work, but I have some decent(not amazing) armor that includes really really thick leather pauldrons, gauntlets, and bracers, as well as some brigandine(though it's not too thick).
The only thing I have a reserve about is my elbows and knees - but you don't strike there anyway.
Anyway - don't worry. I'm fairly estranged from my parents and I have property too - I don't own AMD mind you, but I own stuff. You have my word that no one will get sued by me or any of mine.

I will ask my WMA group if I can borrow their two RSW's. I know that will work safely for sure. Bring any blunts, wasters and armor you have too and we will see how we can find a way to safely use them. I would like to do some sparring with the RSW's at full power and speed and then we can always step down and do some slower stuff with wasters and blunts.
When do you think you can get out here and how many days do you think you will stay.
ShooterMike, thank you for your generous offer to host.

it'll be a little while. I'll have to put in a request for some vacation time and save some money for plane tickets. Texas I could drive to in a day or two. New York... not so much.
I'll keep you informed.
I'll also have to get something in writing to make sure I'm not sued if you get injured.

Yeah, as soon as you get here we'll write up some paper work. I doubt there will be any injuries if we stick to padded weapons.
If my work schedule frees up before August, I will try and make the Texas trip work.

I think that'd be best. I have a good friend who is a lawyer, I'm sure I could get something nice and eloquent from him.
August would be a good estimate from my end for saving the necessary funds and so forth.

I think I can be at Mike's ranch Aug 10. I will be at Pensic the week before that and then its a straight drive down south from Pittsburgh. That is the only window I have to get to Texas for a few days. The issue is, will my WMA group be willing to lend me the padded swords for two weeks that will include my Pensic trip. Don't know, that could be the deal breaker. If not, will you be willing to buy one and I'll buy the other?
