Well alrighty then. Here's something a little different. It started life as a Stainless Para Ordinance P16 in .40 S&W. It had a full custom conversion to bull barrel USPSA limited competition pistol. Then I decided it was too heavy for match use, but might make the perfect 10mm Auto platform. The barrel was rechambered to 10mm Auto. With an 18 lb recoil spring and the all around heaviness of a bull barreled steel frame Para, it's the sweetest shooting pistol I've ever tried with full power 10mm ammo such as the Winchester 175 grain Silvertips shown in the spare 18 round magazine.
And as long as I'm putting "different" stuff in this post, here is a Colt Commander frame with a Ceiner .22 conversion kit to make a dedicated .22 Commander.

I love it! Is it a Springfield frame? Who did the case hardening/coloring?

I love it! Is it a Springfield frame? Who did the case hardening/coloring? Its a magnum research 1911... the case hardened frame is a limited edition and I think it looks awesome. I just hope it shoots as good as it looks, but this was so frigging beautiful and unique I had to have it.

It is an awesome look. I've only seen the Turnbull case hardened 1911s. Pretty cool that Magnum Research is offering it.

I've seen this sort of case hardening on some lever action rifles... on the receiver... but I had never seen one on a handgun before. It was too cool to pass up... I just hope that the XS sights will fit it. I looked at it side by side with a Kimber Stainless II (Which I owned before) and the sights looked exactly the same. I wrote XS directly and they said they think the Kimber sights fit, but they can't be sure because they have not had one in hand. I checked a bunch of forums... and many people say Kimber cut sights fit it... so I ordered them and cross my fingers.

I have a Colt with the Kimber front and rear. This was the first time that I've seen the case hardening on the 1911... www.turnbullmfg.com/I really like the look.

Hey Sean, the frame on that looks really cool. Color case hardening? Never seen that before, pretty nifty.

That's an interesting look, reminds me of heat colored copper.
I'll add our little contribution to the thread. Here's my Sig Ultra. I love shooting this gun, makes me seem a lot more accurate than I am. I really like the night sights that came with it as well. And here's the Sig 1911-22 I got for my fiancée.

So Curtis, do STI and SV 2011s and Para Ordinance pistols count as 1911s?

So Curtis, do STI and SV 2011s and Para Ordinance pistols count as 1911s? Ooooo, good question. I had had an sti Spartan 5, really nice gun. Never handled the double stack sti 2011's... But I have shot a para double stack 1911. Didn't like it. Fat grip and the natural feel of the 1911 was lost. I think double stack 1911 style pistols are not 1911's, they are 1911inspired handguns.

I consider the double-stacks to be 1911s. (I posted one of my Springfields, it uses Para mags). I think the double stack is a natural progression for the 1911. 1911 + P35 = Hi Cap 1911 (in my opinion anyway). It is kind of like saying that a full barrel ramp/integral barrel ramp negates a gun being a 1911 because J.M.B. did not design the 1911 that way. Again, another P35 design. Or, an Officer model can't be a 1911 because it is also an "after thought". For that matter, the 1911A1 is not really a 1911 because of the Department of the Army modifications, nor the 1991 because of the addition of the safety. I agree with Sean about the double stack changing the "natural feel" of the single stack, but I don't feel like it is detrimental to the natural point-ability of the gun. I also like the added weight the double stack affords because it seems to reduce felt recoil and allow for faster follow on shots. I'd love to see some STIs and such on this thread.

For me... The edge the 1911 has is that it points so naturally and feels just right in the hand. The double stack kills that for me... So at that point I'd rather have a fn 45 tactical or a sig 227. Double stack 1911's just don't make any sense for me.

Double stack 1911's just don't make any sense for me. That's because you have never handled a properly reduced and rounded Para or STI/SV. Out of the box, they are overly square in the grip. I have short, thick fingers just like you. Out of the box, they don't work for me either. But then an out-of-the-box 1911A1 doesn't work for me.
The edge they have is that they use the same manual of arms, and all parts are common except the magazine, magazine release, frame, trigger, mainspring housing, and grip screws/bushings. And all those still work exactly the same. All the safeties/controls and action parts are the same and are interchangeable.
So if you've trained to use a single-stack 1911, you can pick up a "fat gun" and use the same muscle memory, while doubling (or more) your magazine capacity. I've gotta get pics of my "beater" SV carry pair of .40s. They really show how well this platform can fit into the concealed carry/ fighting pistol role.
