can't bring myself to post up my old 1911s...still too bitter.
first gun ever was a springfield range officer - great gun but it still jammed every other range trip? put 1k rounds through it but never tried to mod it.
most recent one was a kimber tle 2 in 10mm. It jammed and had premature slide lock. Fixed the jamming with new magazines and feed ramp polish. Switched/polished/dimpled the slide lock and lowered the jamming to twice every hundred rounds. Seemed the gun was finicky with hot ammo. It probably needed a stronger recoil spring but I just got fed up with it. Traded it in to my lgs owner who is a 10mm fanatic and fixed it up for himself.
I am sure I'll go back and give the 1911 a few more tries since I am in love with the lines and the single action trigger...tempting TRPs. I have a great desire to find a reliable one...Don't think I can afford you Curtis :(

Here is one of my favorites. A 1980s vintage Colt MK IV Series '80 Stainless Gov't model in .45 ACP. It has been modified with the following:
Novak/Trijicon sights - Ed Brown memory grove grip safety and ambi thumb safety
- Videki short aluminum trigger
- Wilson Combat match barrel and bushing
- CMC stainless hammer, CMC tool steel sear and disconnector, titanium hammer strut and firing pin
- S&A mainspring housing/mag well and beveled mag well blended into the frame
- Hogue flush fit double diamond grips in cocobolo with Wilson Combat hex head grip screws
- Front cocking serrations cut to match the rear serrations
- Raised front strap for a higher grip
- Overall dehorning of all sharp edges and corners
As you can see from the picture, she's a dirty girl and prefers to run a bit grimy and will lubed.
=============================================================================
Another old favorite. This was my USPSA limited class competition pistol when that division first started. This gun has fired roughly 40-50K rounds and still shoots like a dream. It's built on a Colt Mk IV Series '70 Government Model .45 ACP and features the following modifications:
•Melted Bomar rear sight / Trijicon front sight •Ed Brown grip safety and ambi thumb safety •Videki custom length aluminum trigger •Kart match barrel and bushing •STI tool steel hammer/sear/disconnector, titanium hammer strut and firing pin •S&A ambi mag release button •Ed Brown Maxi-Well mag well cut into and blended with the frame •Hogue double diamond grips in Kingswood with Wilson Combat hex head grip screws •Front cocking serrations cut to match the rear serrations •Raised front strap for a higher grip •30 lpi hand checkering on the front strap and flattened mainspring housing •Overall dehorning of all sharp edges and corners •Lots of internal polishing and machine work to make it run as smoothly as possible •Checkmate hard chrome finish
In the early-mid '90s this would have cost about $2,500.

I did have a nice Gold Cup I did most of the work on, ambi-safety, mag well, grips etc, never really had a stuff-up, put about 1,000 rounds through doing my own reloads.

Here's another carry gun I use on occasion. It's based on a Stainless Springfield frame and slide. It has the same modifications as the stainless Colt above, except no S&A magwell funnel, XS Express Sights instead of Novak Trijicons, has a Shuemann match barrel, and some skateboard tape wrapped around the front strap that's secured by inletted grips.
Here's a better view of the express sights.

Hey Mike... are those big or small dots? How do you like the XS sights on the 1911? Thinking of putting em on the Kimber.

Sean, I thought you knew that I run XS standard dots on just about every pistol I own. Even some of my match guns. But especially on every carry gun. That stainless Colt above used to have XS express sights, but I changed them just to have something different for hunting and range use.

I knew you run XS sights... didn't know if you preferred the standard dot or big dot tho. I have the big dots on my G19 and Shield... but I was thinking the standard dot would be a better fit for the 1911. Also liking going to get them on a couple revolvers. I'm a big fan of the XS sights, they work really well for me.
Except the AR sights... I got a set of the offset XS AR15 sights and I could not sight them right... just would not work for me. On pistols tho... my fave.

Curtis, this is a great idea for a thread. But I'm afraid I will be a "ball hog" if I post very many. I have a number or single-stack 1911s, but also a couple of Para Ordinance and several STI and SV Infinity high-cap 1911-based pistols. Should I post pics of them too? Or stick to only single-stack designs?

My "most carried" 1911, an late 1960s vintage Colt Commander (aluminum frame and lightweight slide). Has the same modifications as my others. The steel parts have been plated in a two step process that consists of a hard chrome under layer covered by a black Teflon outer layer. You can see where the Teflon has worn through to the hard chrome layer on many high spots. This little jewel has spent thousands of hours in a holster and probably tens of thousands of draws.

Very nice. I can see where it had an ambi at some point. How long ago did you have the Teflon over chrome work done?

So here's a load.
A matching pair of 70's vintage Colt Combat Commander (steel frame) .45s with my typical modifications. Only real difference between the two are one has Novak night sights and the other has XS Standard Dot tritium night sights.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a 1911 I built on a Springfield Armory frame and an unmarked Springfield Armory factory second slide. Pretty much full house except for checkering on the front strap. This view shows the underside with a good view of the Ed Brown Maxi-Well magazine well.
Here is a view of the rear showing the tritium bars inset into the Bomar rear sight.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Springfield Armory 1911A1 in .38 Super. Again, a full-house custom except for front strap checkering.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Old school pair of Argentine Ejercito Argentino Systema Colt M1927s that have been fully restored with a few modifications just to make them comfortable to shoot. They were both pretty beaten up and ratty when I bought them in about 2002. Both these were built sometime in the 1930s.

I wish I had picked up a few Systema guns when they where reasonably priced. Very nice.

I wish I had picked up a few Systema guns when they where reasonably priced. Very nice. Yep, I've had 3 in total. The frames and slides are a little soft, but that's exactly like 1930s Colt production guns. The first one got Ed Brown grip and thumb safeties along with standard frame treatment. It got sold pretty quickly to a local guy. These two I decided to leave more or less stock as "play things." I was fortunate enough to grab them when CDNN had a bunch in stock and sold them for $199. What a steal!
