I sold my Atlantean to a guy here in Brazil. He is a sword maker, and is going to "retrofit" it. He sent me a picture of the sword disassembled. I will post it here from home, because I can't access Photobucket from work. But I can tell you that it is a welded rat tail tang. But the guy said it is a well done weld. Regards, Alex.

Yikes, I wouldn't do any swinging with it, Alex.

That little thin rod is an indicator that this sword is meant to be displayed- upright. Joeydac mentioned the QVC clip (and I actually have one of those swords that broke in that clip) but I have a few wallhangers - all have rat tail tangs like yours and all have failed at some point.

DON'T swing it for heaven's sake! That tiny tang WILL break FOR SURE and leave you with a helicopter of death.

Ok, Ok, I got it! Wallhanger, and wallhanger only... No swinging. Thanks everybody! But, what if I make a new handle with a hole and pass a screw through that large hole on the thick part of the blade? This way it would act like a mekugi. What about that? Regards, Alex.

I'm not sure if it would maintain enough structural integrity like that. Especially with all the leverage and weight of the handle behind it, it would be something like a pivot point.
