Sean -- check out DressLikeAPirate.com... yeah the name is cheesy, but I've worn their Swordsman shirt at D*Con last year and it's very nice... great material, good thickness, very comfy.

The GDFB clothing offerings are pretty damn nice as well. I own a few of their shirts and surcoats, and they are suprisingly good quality for the money - way better than anything MRL has out there. And, GDFBs sizes are about spot on as well, something MRL has always screwed up.

Like the shirt pictured, but it is a bit see through sadly...

Ok... at 2.8 lbs... this is a decent looking sword. Very pretty, comes with a rig... and not too heavy... might be one of the good ones. Anyone have any experience with this sword?

Is there anyone that can say anything good about this sword? I've done my research. Obviously Odengaard doesn't approve. But, I am wondering if there are any redeeming qualities about this sword. I love the looks, and would love a black sword, but I am too afraid to attempt any bluing efforts on my existing swords.
Its cool if it totally sucks. I have noticed KoA has the HT Bastard on sale, and could attempt some bluing efforts. I am just scared, because the bluing efforts on this forum have been so hit or miss. I WANT A BLACKSORD!!!
Should I just suck it up, and try some bluing efforts on my own, or be lazy and bite the bullet and try the Windlass Blacksword?
Thanks,
Danny

The sword, in my opinion, is crap. I handled one at MRL's showroom once... it felt like a toy. Not one of the good ones. Your better off getting a good sword and bluing it.

Even if you purchase a 'GOOD' sword, and have it blued, the first time that you cut with it, the finish will more than likely be marred, rendering it a scratched up looking mess. Bluing is not a very durable surface treatment as far as abrasion resistance. Couple that the difficulties that some members have experienced with bluing the varying alloys in the H/T guards and pommels, you would also in all likelyhood have a concern regarding the finish on your hilt furniture matching the finish on the blade. The BlackSword would be a good display piece, with the possibility of being functional at a lower price point if you just have to have a Black Sword in your colection, but it is unanimously voted as a turd.
I would dearly love to have an example of Mormegil in my collection, but owing to previous assessments from guys who know, would not touch the above example unless it came to me damn near free.

If Chris doesn't mind me posting this here, I will note for anybody in the Atlanta, Georgia area, that MRL's store is having a huge sale-- 13 to 80% off, mostly clothing I believe but they'll be selling a good bit of other merchandise. It will be this Saturday, May 19th. Phone sales will be 15% off as well. I might go if I can make it...

Yup yup... They do it every year... I always try to make it. Its true the past couple years they have had less and less cool stuff available... but you never know. I'll be there first thing in the morning for sure... would love to meet up with any other SBG members that will make it.

Hey, Sean. If they have an old Dutch Cutlass (the one with the shell guard) hanging around grab it for me, will ya? Still haven't got my hands on one of those things.
