Yeh... after conversion its a bit more then 600 bucks for the A&A German Rapier... which will save you a couple hundred... and its a nice rapier brother, trust me. I might sell you mine so I can get my fav... the Writhen, if you are ever so inclined. But after the Writhen the German is a close second for my love.

I emailed Godwin a while back asking about the blades and got the following response: Pretty good quality high carbon steel blades..Threaded tang..But certainly would not recommend them for actual use..They are all nicely made, and balanced but again probably not a battle worthy replica(although I know some that do use them )
I bought his monster head hanger and like it quite a bit but I don't think I'll be sharpening it up to try any cutting--there is something a bit suspicious about the pommel nut. I will likely buy another sword or two from him as he has replicas that I can't find elsewhere.

This one is hard to top, I think. That said, my all time favourite rapier was this custom replica of a sword used in the Highlander TV series, I think. It was gorgeous but, unfortunately, I don't think I have the picture anymore and I have never been able to locate the site I found it on since.

That is gorgeous, Anders. Despite all the gold and silver, it doesn't seem gaudy in the least and I absolutely love what they did with the fullers.

Patrick Barta is the MAN.
No bout a doubt it... Every time I look at his Illerup Spatha I go crazy. He also has a type 3 Fr Mounted Grenadiers Saber that I desperately want, but waiting and funding and fitting it in with other things...
Don't forget my bud Vlad Cervenka while dreaming. Also has some very nice rapiers.

Despite several extremely nice swords (that Illerup Spatha among them), I find I like his seax the most.

Dad gum it, Chuck! The Town Guard looks splendiferous---which is good. The Dresden looks lovely but at nearly four pounds "it's too much man for me."
This line about the Dresden always cracks me up: These extremely heavy rapiers were often used as calvary side arms.

Yeah, almost 4 pounds with a POB right at 5 inches seems like a hand full to me also. That is the reason why I never can bring myself to commit to one without handling it first. I guess that I could drive the 8 hours to KOA, handle it first hand, and then decide. Or, just wait for a Town Guard to pop up for sale, and wait for someone to review a Dresden. I wouldn't hesitate a second on the Town Guard.

Some sword porn for ya face. The Dresden hilt (mounted on a fighting blunt, I believe), spotted at Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition: The Cavalier, top of photo: The ACTUAL town guard sword, from the Wallace Collection.

That A&A Cavalier has been in my wish list. Blade is actual much the same as my Windlass Town Guard, but probably a bit stiffer.
The Dresden is too much of a handful, taper or not.
