You killed my father. Prepare to die. Sorry, I had to. After getting back from Lowe's a few minutes ago, I decided to check my e-mail, which led me to check KoA's New Items list and there they had a limited edition Inigo Montoya rapier replica. It's gaudy as hell, but then, so was the original. The blade seems rather short for a rapier at 29", but it does have an elongated grip specifically for the six-fingered man.

Too clumsy for me. I'll hold out until I can get my own version made. I might not be able to resist this one, though: kultofathena.com/product.asp?ite ... erts+Sword

Frankly, I agree. Inigo's sword was always one of the most ridiculous swords I'd ever seen. Besides, I think your version of the Montoya is much, much better; and that's saying something since I'm not a rapier person (although, your design "Princess" is tempting to add to my wishlist).

Thanks, Vincent. "The Princess Bride" is the reason I'm interested in swords, but I don't have a rapier yet because I've not come across one that gives real truth to the words "I have never seen its equal" that Westley uses to describe the Montoya sword. I finally saw some Arms&Armor rapiers that came close. Maybe I'll have Craig make me a custom when the time comes. Spotted this discontinued "Elizabethan Rapier" at Shakespeare's Globe in London. Very nice. Anyway, I've always admired the simpler lines of the sword of the Dread Pirate Roberts. This looks very close to the film prop, but I'm wary of grabbing a rapier blade made by Windlass. Hrmm.

That Elizabethan Rapier makes me feel kinda funny... my current favorites are the A&A Writhen Rapier and the A&A German Rapier (which I have)... but that one I think might be a new favorite. Its beautiful.

The Roberts sword does look pretty good. Think my next big sword purchase will be an A&A though--thier Milanese is calling my name.

Sigh. That Elizabethan was on my midterm list of things I'd have liked. Saddened when A&A pulled the plug. I just missed the final sell off. But I got the 7 ringer... That still amazes me.
If Windlass had put a more proper blade ( say 38-40 inches on that Montoya they'd have done it right. )

Do you know anywhere I could get a better look at it Dave? I'm thinking I might ask A&A to make one for me custom, I like it that much.

I gotcha, Sean. And in Black Publicity photo: I don't know if they CAN make them anymore, I think they retired the molds.

Thanks Zach; that's it. Used to seeing the blackened version at A&A. Like it straight, but the black does highlight the details. There was a matching Main Gauche for the set.
Sure Craig Johnson would summon up something for you if you wanted to pay for it...

Dave, you've had a few windlass rapiers, haven't you? Any undue whippiness? I think I might snag the Roberts sword just to have it. It's pretty damn close to the hero prop: www.yourprops.com/Cary-Elwes-swo ... -1168.html

I've had some windlass rapiers as well... and was unimpressed I'm sad to say. Thanks for the pics... that thing is SO beautiful... I might have to look into it when I gather some more funds. In the mean time I want to get a German dagger to match my German rapier... which I am pretty happy with. Its weird that I only currently have 1 rapier in a 40 sword collection... since fencing is the only form of swordplay I have any real training in. Rapiers, however, are much harder to find affordable in any quality... its sad.

Not quite the inigio montoya but Im really fond of the DSA rapier darksword-armory.com/1331-Italian-Rapier.htmlI don't really know much about fencing but I really like the look of that rapier though I suppose it might be a bit on the heavy side. :?

No problem brother, and thanks for the heads up on the Windlass's. I still might take a look at this one, we'll see. This is my dream rapier. A beaded 3-ring one-off by Arms & Armor. Built to be extra fast.

I'm impressed by the quality of the A&A German Rapier... they really are my go-to for rapiers at the moment. Just wish they were not so pricey.... but tho I wish it were otherwise... the past few years and hundreds of swords I've had have taught me that you have to be willing to pay for quality. I wish it were not so, but it is.

Yeah, the rapier situation kind of pisses me off--if we had even 10% as many mid-range options as there are for katanas and Oakeshott-type Euros it'd be awesome, as it is there's only a couple of manufacturers who really even bother and one of them doesn't sell anything good for less than $800. Meh.

Huh, I'm in the same boat. I've been searching for some months for an affordable small sword that is historically accurate (ie. sharp and pointy) with better dimensions than Cold Steel's offering.
Best I've come up with is G. Godwin, though I'm not sure about the quality of the blade.

First, call or email Godwin's and ask. ( I really haven't grooved on pre Napoleonic Baroque sidearms, so I can't tell ya anything about their dealers. Godwins rates high with reenactors.
Also see the recent posts by Aznders and KC on royalswords of Canada. His presentation is very impressive. I've toyed with getting a real antique, but I like this royalsword option.
If you are talking about a hanger (saber) rather than a smallsword, my bad. Disregard royalsword.

MD Long still has 3 A&A rapiers available along with 3-4 original english rapiers ( They'll just set you bacl $3600 ).
Asking price for the A&As are 295GBP. Shipping is another $90.00 to bail stuff out of London, unfortunately. There is a small search screen in the upper right of the home page. Just type "rapier" and it will find them for you.
Long's agents will negotiate a deal. They have some flexibility in their prices. Get's better if you buy more than one.

Thanks for the Info, Dave. Even with the currency conversion and shipping those are damn good prices for the A&A's. Pity they don't have my favorite Craig rapiers there, but the German is tempting. Hey JP, have you looked into Del Tin? I've had my eye on this one for a while: www.myarmoury.com/review_dt5181.html
