I find that his piece while beautiful is too artsy to be a weapon.

I'm with both Chuck and Student on this one. There's no denying the skill and artistry that JP puts into his swords, each one is a work of art. That being said, I wouldn't want to own one. I keep swords to use them, and I wouldn't want to slice bottles or mats with a Powning in my backyard. It'd just live on my wall, and what would I have then? That's right, a 4-figure wall-hanger. It'd be wasted on me.

There's practical and ceremonial. That being said, you wouldn't want to cut with a ceremonial sword, nor would you want to display a practical.

Bah! Depends on the practical. I think most of them are worthy of display. Well, most of the ones I fawn over. And I WOULD cut with a Powning sword if I owned one. Not much mind you, I don't cut much to begin with, but that's what the sword is designed to do. Most of what you pay for with expensive pieces is the time and energy the craftsman put into the sword, which certainly doesn't make them any less resilient than a lower-end piece. The darn things don't become fragile Fabergé eggs once the price goes up--- they are still at their core functional weapons. A sword tells you a lot about itself when you take it out for a swing, and tells you something more when you cut with it. There's something valuable in agreeing to hear the full story. If I won the lottery and bought a very expensive car, do you think I wouldn't ever drive it for fear of it getting hurt? No. I wouldn't enter dangerous drag races or high-speed pursuits with it, but you'd bet I'd take it out on the highway to zoom about. It would seem silly not to. In the same sense, I'd never clash a Powning against other swords or shields or try to cut heavy hard objects, but taking on a light target or two? Absolutely. If I owned something as mystical and revered as that, I'd like to know how it cuts. The only swords I wouldn't try out at least a bit would be antique pieces, blades whose structural integrity is unsound because of what the centuries have done to them and whose real value is in preserving the history they symbolize and were present for. ...But if it were in good condition I'd still think about it a couple of times.

If I could have anything by anyone, I would have Peter Johnsson make me a classic type XII with a straight guard and wheel pommel,

ANY sword? Okay, I would like a sword forged by ancient legendary smiths from the iron of a sacred meteorite, and blessed by mystics to never dull, chip, or break and be incapable of cutting the wielder or an innocent. BUT when used against evil, it would have the same effect as salt on a slug. And I would like to find it while lost in some ancient forest, after being guided to its' ancient resting place by some hot elf chick.

Seriously? How has no one picked this yet?! It may be made of energy, but it's still a sword, dammit. Realistically, however, there are three swords I want out of all others: Ælfwing, Ithin, and Mé'aré. They're my own designs (you can see them in my design thread and no, you can't use them). - Ithin is very simple to explain; it's a one-handed katana with a Ming dynasty jian hilt. - Mé'aré is a bastard sword with a narrow XVIa or a fullered XVIIId blade, Style 12 guard, and Type V1 pommel; its blade also has a light golden hue. - Ælfwing is a one-handed XIX with a ring pommel and no guard; instead, it has a u-shaped collar over the ricasso (anime fans ought to recognize it). These swords will get made, even if I have to give up on every other sword on my list.

Yeah. I was just messing around with that, 'cause, cool as the lightsaber is, I'm severely lacking in Force abilities to actually use one. I'd be afraid I'd lop off my own head with one.

To continue the lightsaber tangent for a moment... you don't need the Force to use one, see Empire Strikes Back and Han Solo. Is it *safer* to use it with the Force? Probably; precognition is handy when that tip starts dipping towards your toes. However, as long as you don't try any crazy twirls or whatever, you're safe enough with one... that mass-less blade is what will really throw a person off because it's got no weight (that's what the theory is anyway), and as such you have to basically compensate for that. Just imagine you're fighting with an air sword and you'd be fine On topic: Good question. I really like Jake Powning's work, but honestly, I'd probably go with either an Albion, or set up my own forge and learn how to make my own...

Sorry, I was joking too in case anybody thought otherwise. Sarcasm on the internet is tricky.
My real answer, actually, would probably be the longer, unfullered version of Brendan Olszowy's Ring Wraith sword he made. It looks so wonderfully evil!

Vampire hunter D's sword it pretty nifty. Like a shobu zukuri with a serious o-kissaki....and a cross shaped handle. I always wanted to take an o-katana blade and make it look all vampirey...........you know, when the vampires kill all the zombies!
