Thanks for the heads up Chuckles. That's an interesting new machete.
I hope they will show us more new products, because many of these look very ''meh'' to me. A Ka Bar style knife ? Ontario Knives and Ka Bar have been making these for ages. A two-handed Latin Machete ? Ugh, that thing looks so wrong ...
I like their new Mini Tuff folder, however, it looks like an interesting new low-price folder.

Don't be so ready to "meh" CS gimmicky blades they've been introducing. I picked up their new katana machete, which sells for about $23 without scabbard, and those are pretty nice for the money. Super sharp and very well balanced tool. Makes you want to go out into the jungle and hack away. And if you want wicked...try the Trench Hawk Axe. True Swords sells em for about $33. If I had to be in close combat situation, that would be the puppy I'd want in my hand. So thanks for the heads-up Chuckles. Guess I'm going to add that to the list

It's no problem guys. I know a lot of folks like sword machete's it's just a shame there's not more on the market.

I kinda like it- the handle is very non tradional but whatevs- it'd make for a good project blade and is very affordable. The look of the blade itself is cool. I wonder how hard it would be to take off the baked in finish?

"...we have decided to offer a modern version of this ancient classic in a very affordable machete/sword format..."
The purpose of the tool is that it tries to appeal to folks who like both gladii and machetes at a middle ground of sorts while remaining a very affordable price tag under $40 and can be used to perform tasks most sword enthusiasts wouldn't want to attempt with their swords. You wouldn't use your Jeep for a drag race or your Charger for off-roading after all (The Duke boys being the exception lol). They openly state it's not historically accurate, so I don't hold it against them for not being historically accurate. I just hope that they found a way to make the guard and pommel secure as possible since this is the first complex hilted machete Cold Steel has attempted. It looks a little closer to its inspiration than the katana machete was at least. Fingers crossed for an archetype knightly medieval inspired sword.

I wonder if that 'dot' on the pomel is some kind of rivet

It's either a rivet or an aesthetic motif like the groove in the "guard". I'm inclined to think the latter since I don't see any marks on the head of the 'dot' that would indicate it being a rivet or screw.

I'm pretty sure that picture is a computer mock up though. The whole thing looks too smooth, knowing cold steels coating, and the lighting is weird.
I might have to pick this thing up. I've been pretty happy with the cold steel machete I have, and if they're going to start making ones that look like swords, well I certainly can't resist!
[EDIT: Actually, looking more closely at some of the other stuff, I actually think most of the pictures are computer mock ups.]

Hmmm...they state it's full tang, sooo, one could possibly use it as a project blade to mount a better hilt. Using an exotic hardwood, perhaps. I have to admit, I have half a dozen of their machetes and am very happy with them. They all have a damned decent heat treat for a machete. Yep, definitely gonna have to get one of these.

Not really my cup of tea, but I've certainly seen worse-looking tacticals for a lot more money. I roll my eyes at a lot of Cold Steel stuff (and a lot of Cold Steel prices) but I do love the heck out of my 18" Bowie machete. I wouldn't bother with the gladius because I don't like the blade geometry with that profile, but I could be tempted by that new Two-Handed Latin Machete. Hmmm. dealerscorner.coldsteel.com/Products/97TM21/

I've considered the katana machete as well. It is hideous. The Gladius machete is nifty, and I do like gladii...so maybe, just maybe, I'll take the plunge. I await Rick Willy's review, however - he's the gladius man. Let's hope they start producing machete with guards - that would be interesting. Again, messerchete. Do want.
