Thought we were well overdue for an update.
I've been speaking to John, his health has really been a barrier here. He still does not want to give up, but we have been discussing getting things moving, bringing in help from members (I contacted a few swordsmiths) to help especially with the non forging, grips wraps etc.
I have already contacted all those with a slot seperately, if you are interested in helping make grips or assist in any way, let me or John know, we could help pay the costs to get these done!
Thanks for hanging in there with this project everyone!
Regards,
Rob

Well, I've been waiting for a sword like this since I was about ten. I suppose a few months more won't hurt. Thanks for the update and *please* keep the news coming. --Edward

Hi,
Yes I would be interested, remembering that freight is reasonably high, nevertheless I have some Australian silky oak that would make a great haft. I think that one would look good as an "Atlantian Great Spear" lots of spears in both mythology and AD&D and of course the Japanese islands were created with Ame-no-nuboko (heavenly spear).

That's where the dragon tried to disembowel you before you plunged the sword through it's scaly head!

hi Aussie rabbit,
like the sound of the great spear, are you imagining it with bronze like the swords and then finished with a haft? Draw up what you're thinking and I'll chat to John. If getting bronzze it will be last in que so a little whie in the pipe. I was thinking gladius...

Arrrrg, there you mention the one thing (ok, one of several) that I do poorly, draw! when I need to draw I usually get my 17yo daughter to draw while I explain, I'm good with words This may be along the lines thereof... kochamksiazki.pl/wp-content/uplo ... Brett2.jpg After all, you really need to know when to stop running the spear into the dragon! (or whatever mythological creature you are dispatching) Plus while I have a little instruction in Yari when I was younger I am much less fit as I approach the three score age, the haft I can do here, I love timber, the haft I think would be best with an oval cross section about 40mm x 30mm. I envisage about 1.5m, commanding but not unwieldy.

I like it! As I said it will be a while till your up, I'll pencil you in for now. Have a look at how these are attached to the haft, but I think it would be ok to get the blade and bronze to you for final fit and attachment.

Now I'm not an engineer, so correct me if I'm astray here, for the socket/blade to be strong enough there would need to be a an I or T slot in the base of the blade into which a "key" fits that is part of the socket. ??
