That's one way to do it, but how are you going to get the blade down over it if the socket is one piece cast? Better suggestion: Rivet or pin through the bronze around the blade, or braze it into place. You aren't likely to do more than some light cutting with this, are you? Doesn't have to be *that* strong...

But what if I have to slay a dragon ? seriously, as I said I'm not an engineer but rivet or pin just sounds cheap, this is an Atlantian after all. :?

So, what's the latest news? John? Anyone?
. . . even if it's just, "We're working on it."

Well-Hi gang-I spoke with John not so long ago and the delays are due to his health/stamina-he is working on the swords but it is going slowly-more slowly than he wants but is still very commited to the project.I hope I havent steped on any toes by saying so-I expect he will address the forum shortly-if you are directly involved he or Rob have already contacted you personally or should do so shortly.I can wait-I have patience-dammit!lol...

For an atlantean i would have patience too, john has always been an upstanding member of the forum, and im sure the slow progress is both grieving and frustrating for him.Speaking as someone who has a custom project in the works with john i just want to say take it easy man, dont risk your health. We know you'll come up with the goodness

AH, EDWARD, your steadfast commitment to being my communication conscience ( along with the good words and thoughts of DeeJay, Aussie-rabbit and my more than patient friend, Talon ) has finally roused me from my self-imposed isolation from the Forum. I’ve missed you guys. The “nice” way to explain it would go along the lines of “if you don’t have anything good to say, then don’t say it” Not having good news has always been difficult for me to share, and the difficulties I've been working with have almost overwhelmed me.
Thats about it, guys. Recurring health issues have been a real set-back to the project. Not catastrophic stuff, I’m really pretty much ok - just the #@*%<!!! limitations that I haven’t been able to shake off. To the point that I’ve finally felt it necessary to contact each of the “subscribers” to explain and chart a course going forward.
To a man, everyone has responded to my explanation of the situation with concern, kindness, and unconditional support. It amazes, but does not surprise me, that amongst all of you connoisseurs of implements of mayhem and personal destruction, beat such good and true hearts. Thank You, my friends.
Aron from Delaware will be giving me a hand with some of this, and I think we’re going to have a vid up soon that will be entertaining (read that - probably good for a laugh for production value etc...) and instructive.
So Edward, I am “working on ‘em”. &%#@*!#& slowly, but steadfastly. We will persevere and prevail.

Well, Pinocchio had a cricket; you have me. Seriously, though, it's good to see your post, and good to hear what's been going on with you. I appreciate these posts, and the PM's letting us know what's up. You don't always have to give us good news, John-- just *news*. We're interested in both the project, and your health (it's a given that your health is more important to us, but it is still worth stating). Good to hear! Please know that this brightens my day, as I have been having my own personal sh*t storm to go through as well. One step closer towards owning a *beautiful* hand-made Atlantean. --Edward P.S. Man, the pics of the finished Atlantean in this thread are drool-worthy.

Hey guys. Dammit, looks like I’ve been doing it again... unanswered posts... So, notwithstanding everything I’ve been griping about lately, here’s whats been going on. Since no longer being employed at the foundry, I’ve had to take some full-on commissioned work to pay bills, put food on the table etc. Not complaining, its a good piece. Just not something I’d ever do on my own. This is an 18th century French garden fountain that was available from the original French foundry up until about 10 years ago. My understanding is that the foundry finally went under, or lost the mold patterns or something. Anyway, you can’t get ‘em any more. And I’ve got a client that wants one badly enough to have me re-create it. All the health stuff that I shared with you guys has been affecting my work on this project also. But deadline for clays is early next week and I’ve been scrambling to get ‘er done. Hence the recent lack of my presence here. Here’s what I’ve got done so far. fountain pedestal bottom of fountain bowl Here’s some random shots of our project too. Wax pieces getting ready to fit and cast. Back with more as soon as I get the fountain clays approved and off to the foundry. Peace!
