Few things it seems have made men, women and children as facinated with Swords than the Conan movies and comics. I'm no exception...
Project Conan
Most of you will know that a little while ago Albion went digging in their back room and found more goodies that were languashing in the bowels of the building, and put them on sale in the MOAT. After missing what seemed like every set of nice blades they put up, I pounced on a load of Conan Atlantian blades. Albion had the licence for Conan for a few years or so many moons ago, and sold the first fully functional production Atlantian blade which are still holding their value amongst collectors (I saw one sell for $2000 USD about 6 months ago) as they never even made the envisanged limit of 1000 before the license expired. Holding these blank blades is a feeling of raw potential power. I became convinced that these slightly off spec Albion blades fulfill their destiny and be made into swords.
Because of the time in the basement, all of these swords have a LOT of rust. This might be a problem for some blades, but not these. With so much 1075 steel in each piece, a good polish down will not affect their strength.
The Atlantian Warriors
Now these blades have all been cut and tempered properly by Albion, but most have some small amount of error (such as unevenly ending fullers) that put them to the side before the etching and finish stages. So I am not trying to say these are the Atlantian King sword weilded by Conan, or the Albion Conan sword in quality.
My concept is these are swords of the Atlantian Guard, the warrior elite, that have been made by the royal armoury of Atlantis in the fashion of the King's blade - but used and personalised by the brutal troopers that weilded them.
So each sword will be unique, and will be made personalised by offering etching options (classic or custom), grip options (like wood, leather or cord) as well as polish options including a battle weary version with some pitting.
I am hoping that anyone interested will have some more good suggestions for me!
I thought that this might be an interesting tale, one that has just begun with the help of my friend, foundary man and forumite know here as John Greybeard. I'll post pic's and progress how these blades hopefully make it to completion and welcome John to chip in whenever possible.
I'll start with a few pic's of the blades themselves, and shortly I will add some of the parts in the process of getting cast into bronze.
