Its the big toss up between that one or the other norse viking sword (one with the little holes in hilt), both I think sport the same blades just different hilts and its going dead cheap at KoA now ....... so yeah probably that one, get them to sharpen it ........ its hilt is supposed to be a form of antiqued silver (probably just the zinc, bronze, steel alloy stuff) but I think it might look pretty and apparently its dead solid pulling the weight back towards the handle

So I've decide to do new grips for my Windlass arming sword and war sword, and I was wondering what exactly type of cord to use under the leather. Does it make a big difference, or does it not really matter all that much? I think all I have lying around is some twine, will that work fine?
Anyway, I'll try to get my hands on a camera to post some pics, if not of the process itself then at the very least of the finished product.

Hi eruialsul,
I'm not sure you have to put cord under the wrap except if you have to thicken the grip. The cord over the leather wrap while drying is what will leave it's print. But that's depending on the type of wrap you wish to achieve. I think twine will do, thought. For risers, you'll need a bigger cord or leather strips.
But then again, maybe more experienced "re-wrappers" will chime in with more accurate infos, as I only did it a few times (more like experiments still) and got the "how-to" from posts from them here and on myarmoury.com...What kind of wrap do you want to do?

Hi, everyone. I thought I would share my own humble contribution. This is the first hilt re-wrap I've ever done. It was for a friend's wallhanger rapier, mostly just as an experiment. The grip is brown suede and my own attempt at making a strand of twisted wire, along with some untwisted strands. Not the best, but it was definitely fun to try. ;D It doesn't look as shoddy in this picture.

Very nice wrap, Krinkle! Indeed! If you had laquered the samegawa black and put some gold accents to the menuki, the effect would have been even more striking. But that's just how I would do it, not critizism of any kind.

I got a Windlass Tiberias in a trade with another member and wanted to re-wrap it (not crazy about the twine wrap). I done it a while ago but never posted the result (I'm an expert at procrastination), here go: My toes are in the picture...quite involuntarily, try and not notice them. Still a bit of finishing to do on it... I also wanted something different for my Va-Trim 304S (first gen, the leather was not to my liking) so went for blue: (my nicest attempt up to now) Now, I've been wanting to do something with the pommel (first gen: plain, machined look, sharp/squarish edges, which the second gen's don't seem to have btw, they seem to have nicer, smoothier, rounder finished pommels, anybody else noticed?) for a while but am still thinking about what exactly...

Reflingar....nice work; you do commissions? Thanks very much for the compliment, Dark Knight! As to your question: no, I don't do commissions, I'm only an experimenting neophyte in the domain...doing it just as hobby, still learning a lot...but I take your question as a great compliment, many sincere thanks to you!

Okay, so I really like how these grips are done... jodysamson.com/private-sale-1.htmAnd so far I haven't seen any tutorials for anything like this (or like the AoV custom grips). Sorry if it's a simple answer, but I have quite literally no experience with this kind of thing. No rush for an answer, though, as first I need money for a sword before I can think about regripping it, haha.

Here are a few grips Ive done. GSoW, Albrech, and DSA 14th C. Two Handed Sword. As you can see the guard on the DSA has been switched out for the one from the wichking. I thought it looked neat. By margshus, shot with NIKON D80 at 2010-04-22 By margshus, shot with NIKON D80 at 2010-04-22 By margshus, shot with NIKON D80 at 2010-04-22 I've only tried a re-wrap 5 times previous, so I'm still learning as I go. Here is one I just finished on my windlass Baron. The wood core was reshaped and then re-wrapped using leather cord and hemp twine. I also added a cross to both sides of the pommel with my Dremel. I think it looks real swell now compared to the original. By margshus at 2010-05-12

Looks good Ref. Darkening of the guard and pommel with a nice looking re-wrap.
The Baron is back in the shop again. Carving out a new grip. The shape of that one isn't quite right.
