I just found out that I'll be getting a little bonus at work for referring friend who was subsequently hired; nice little incentive plan at work- $250 now for recommending a good prospect and another i$250 if they stay for a year.
No way am I going to be able to sit on this until the other half comes around, and I already know what I'm going to buy... but what would you buy with $250 of free money? What do you think I should get and why (keep in mind the only functional swords I own so far are katana's)?

Same here- in fact, I'm working on getting the $ to buy one ATM. Then again, If you like two handers (like katana), the 304S Longsword may suit you better... I LOVE mine. -Slayer

Custom Huawei ? There the hot thing now for Kats. If kats are not your thing then yes, the VA's long and shorts are a good choices. Any of the Hanwei/Tinker line too is fine and you'l have some cash left for making some mods to it

I would personally put the money towards shaving a small chunk off of a custom piece from Brendan that I WILL have him make eventually ;D

I would throw it in the pot and be half way to getting my next ATrim. but if I had to buy something with it right now I think I'd go for a VA 303, H/T GSOW or longsword. maybe a SwordNArmory kat but I'm getting picky about kats and 250 isn't likely to cut it even from SNA or Hauwei.

If it were me, either an A+A Danish Axe, a KC Viking sword, or a down payment on an Odinblade.

If I had $250 right now to spend on a sword, I would pick up a VA 304s. Got the single hander 303s already but a match pair of single and hand and a half swords would be great.

If I only had katanas, I'd go for the VA Arming Sword (VA 303s). Don't get me wrong, I love my VA Longsword to death (VA 304s) but the Arming sword is what I always go for first, and it's what I always reserve a few bottles to cut with last. But if I spent the time to get my 304s as sharp as my 303s, then maybe I'd swing em, one in each hand.

Actually on second thoughts scrap what I said above. The one thing I have wanted to get for ages but have never been able to justify is a nice custom scabbard for one of my Albion’s. $250 will not pay for a whole custom scabbard but it will go a long way and give me the incentive to put the rest of the money up

H/T Practical Longsword, then spend the rest on some leather and buckles to do up a nifty suspension.

You know, I just noticed this, but nobody, nobody has any imagination! With 250$, who says you're limited to just one sword? Are we in some kinda Sword Highlander or something? Personally, if I had that kind of money to blow, there's all sorts of swords and knives I could get. However, the first that really come to mind (that would leave me enough left for shipping), I'd choose the Hanwei Practical Gongfu Sword, the Hanwei Military Dadao (I just like the rugged look of that thing), and the Musashi Natural Wood O Tanto, all from Kult of Athena. Or I could go for like half a dozen of the knives on my list. Or, if I was just looking for swords, I'd go with the Windlass Qama and Kindjal from KoA, and then the Munetoshi Yuki from SwordNArmory.

Had the hanwei practical kung fu sword... was not too impressed. I do like that new Dadao tho.

250 would either get me the cutting Jian from Hanwei, mostly pay for what really want from Jin-Shi, or cover some wood carving knives from Archerout along with a much overdue repair order from Sam Salvati (Wushu Whip).
