Hey it looks like it comes with a locking washer for the nut...or is that something else?
But yeah same as mine...details to nit pick...but I like my sword. The scabbard is really annoying though.
The pommel not lining up maybe because of the piss poor wood they use for the handle. Mine lined up at first...but beause the wooden handle is so dang soft after a little time, the pommel would compress a mm or two of the handle and then it would sit a bit skewed. With my wenge handle, it sits just fine.
Speking of annoying things, mine didn´t come with an allen wench and it skipped my mind that the nut maybe metric so I ended up kinda stripping mine. Did your come with an allen wrench?

Great review, Tom. I like the added review on the sheath of the sword. I have an old cast metal excalibur blade that I use for larp and halloween, because it makes that pretty shwiiiiiing sound when you draw it, but you're right, for a real sword, that sound usually just means trouble. +1! ^_^

Cold Napalm: I forgot to mention that, yes there is an allen wrench in there. and yes you are right there is indeed a round (as in not flat) split-washer in there under the pomel nut and I think it does a good job. after all the cutting I did the hilt was still nice and tight. nothing loosened up.
ViolentSerenade: thanks, yeah the scabbard is often neglected or only barely mentioned and I'd probably have done the same (just a quick "yup there it is, damned if it ain't" sorta thing) but this scabbard, sadly, deserves attention. this scabbard is trouble. it needs to be fixed or avoided.

VERY informative and interesting review Tom... a +1 from me. I think it an awesome service that you opened that offer to the benifit of the people sending you the swords AND to everyone here at SBG... way to raise the reviewer bar! I only wish I had taken you up on it, as well as a couple others... it would have been great to see the whole Hanwei/Tinker line examined with the same set of eyes... would have been very telling I think. So, anyone who gets a 'Schwing!' scabbard would do well to address it ASAP before it jacks up their edges.

Nice review! And seeing your 304s next to it makes me want to heat blue the fittings on mine, it looks awesome! So, anyone who gets a 'Schwing!' scabbard would do well to address it ASAP before it jacks up their edges. I get that 'Schwing' from both of my hanwei scabbards/blades but I think the fiberglass also contributes to the sound as one of the scabbards doesn't have a metal throat like that one.

I cant believe your no happy with the sound the sword makes comming out of the scabbard. In almost every movie I saw with swords they sound just like that when the hero draws his mighty sword . sorry I couldnt resist I just find it odd that the sound is perfect for a movie draw but dulls the blade a little every time you draw it. Nice review on what seems to be a nice sword, besides some sharpening issues the Tinker line seems to be worth the little bit of cash they sell for.

I've handled a couple of Hanwei's Tinker at a local store this past week-end ( Dracolite on St-Hubert for all those in the Montreal area... its hard to find a store carrying some good swords around here ) and for all of them the handling was superb, way way over what we generally see with 300$ swords.
Your great cutting abilities coupled with Tom Waits resulted into an amazingly enjoyable video !

Excellent review. I too have a couple Hanwei's. A gladius and a viking and both of them do the same thing with the scabbard.

Excellent review Tom, as always. I always like Tom's videos. It's like listening to an old friend...even though I never met him...
I have a Dark Sentinel that sometimes makes that sound. The scabbard on the DS has this odd cutout on one side (no idea why). If you don't make an effort to pull the sword straight out it makes that scape sound. Hate it.

I actually told CAS/H that the throat was a problem. Tom- please email them about it They listen to customer emails! Nice cutting vids- BTW, if you cut mats with the last 10 inches or so (rather than at the COP) it goes better. Great review!

I like that sword, Tom...that was an excellent and impartial review, to my eyes anyway. Well done!
ChrisA, just noticed you're located in LI, mind if I ask what part?

This line is really looking up. To me, fit and finish come second to function and these sound like they function nicely. I would still prefer a better sharpening job out of the factory but hopefully people will do as Tinker suggests and let Hanwei know the problems.
Ebon, I live in Hicksville. You from LI?

that's good to know Tinker, thank you. I was very careful to try and cut with the COP because I didn't want to stress kokoro's sword. it was an excellent cutter no matter what. even when it was dul it cut pretty well. you can see I was able to get through the tatami when I really wanted to, it just refused when I didn't give it my all.
Thanks Ebon it's a good fun sword

ChrisA, yup, born and raised- graduated from Pat-Med school district up by the eastern shore, lived in Medford; my folks moved after I graduated to Nassau County...Dad worked for Lilco in Hicksville so I know that area in passing through. Pretty cool, man.
