Well between deciding between Hanwei Norman or GSOW I actually put both back and are going with the oxblood 304S LS from KoA. I sort of want a longsword now and the VA 304S LS line are hard to ignore, but when I saw it with the S guard and polished pommel with the oxblood it just sang a whole lot more to me ....... I intend to blue the pommel and guard which should contrast rather deliciously against the dark oxblood just need a chape for the scabbard ...... one I can blue ....... any ideas where I can obtain one

I don't really know where you can obtain a chape, but I do know that you need to review the LS when you get it. I am having trouble with deciding what swords I want, so can you tell me some things about your Viking?

About my Tinker Viking, well nothing much that hasnt been said already, at the moment its my BEST sword, thats in competition with a DSA Gothic (before peen) and 3 cold steel sabres (the viking is lighter then any of them and its a Type X FFS). Its taper and blade are perfection and its nearly insulting to be paying 250.00US for it ....... its worth more, not much more but I could justify 320.00US for it. Oh and I thought the edge was crap, that was before I put in four afternoons and about 40 milk bottle (light plastic) cuts in and got some "PRACTICE!!!" on my edge alignment and it cuts far better because I improved myself not the blade. Sometimes you have to be objective about the sword type, early Viking Type X will never cut like a katana but it performs like it should and it cuts very well. I will be getting the Norman later this year after the VA. I dare even to say the sword would improve more if I started doing some pushups and improving my upper body strength. I reckon you should go the Norman Johnno, not as butch as the Viking but still a slashy/choppy Type X. It would be a little more nimble and directional then the Tinker Viking, it was an evolution of the Type X after all .

That's a good point. So with the norman you trade off power for speed?

it might be Jon, but not by virtue of it's type and only someone who has handled both would reall know unless they are just vastly different. I'm calling the Norman a type Xa but I could be wrong. the Xa was an improvement in stabbing ability, handling would be more of an individual sword thing between these types I would think since they are so similar

I'm definitely jealous...the grip is the one thing I hate about my 303S...that and the guard's a trifle too long for my tastes. Other than that, its a great little cutter.

I could always get two single handed swords and solve my problem of wanting a crusade sword and a viking sword, but then I will have no two handed sword (which actually isn't nearly as important to me as it once was). I would do this, but the swords I have listed are so similar that I feel like I wouldn't have much variety.

Seriously, buy something! If you don't, something else will come up which will take your money, trust me on that one. Every time I am in a position to buy a sword, something else comes up.

As of now I am almost certain that I will be buying the Tinker/Hanwei viking. I absolutely love it, and I love things viking-related. I am not sure what my other sword will be. There is a good chance that I will get another one handed sword, but from the crusades time period. This will mean that the VA LS will not be mine (should I choose this path, and it breaks my heart) but I know that as far as role-playing goes, I like LOTR, Norse stuff, and crusades stuff. I can still play LOTR with single handed swords, but I can't play viking/crusader with a two handed sword. However, I do know that if I should decide to not get the LS right now, it will be my third sword. I am going to try to spend my money wisely, that way I can get the other sword some time. This is liable to change, as you all know.

I'm on the verge of creating a forum-o-thon where we will collect funds to buy a sword for Jonathan, one that WE will choose He would still have to produce a decent review in exchange Get a single hand and get a two handed or a bastard, in any order. But you have to touch those two different style before going any further So nobody did a review on the tinker viking and GSOW right ?

I had thought that the Viking had been reviewed, but I s'pose not. The GSoW has not even been purchased by a forumite yet, to my knowledge.
Right now, I'm debating whether to buy the GSoW when I get my bonus, or spend a bit extra for the AT1315. I will likely get the GSoW. So it shouldn't be more than a month until I review it, should I go that route.

The Tinker viking has been reviewed. There are no cutting videos with it to date, though.

Does it not look beautiful from the review pictures?

Does it not look beautiful from the review pictures? I like the looks of the Norman better... for Viking swords, I'm in love with the VA Hedemark. It will be mine, of yes, it will be mine.
