I prefer peened as well, but if they start selling the replacement blades for it, a recessed nut construction will be worth it.

Just got off the phone with CAS to verify that it is dis mountable sword with a hex nut attaching the pommel to the tang as with some of the other Hanwei Tinker models. If there are any other questions about the model don't hesitate to ask.

Richard Just waiting for someone to examine one in hand to tell me how the edge is on it... and do you know then, if it's dismountable, will they be offering replacement blades for it?

Shadowhowler asked the same questions I had. Brissybeater, how is the viking blade replaceable if it is peaned? You would have to do it yourself or ship it to hanwei, wouldn't you? I don't want to be hasty, I want a review, but I really like the looks of this sword.

It wouldnt be a problem with an angle grinder, torch, vice and ball hammer easy operation then again not everyone has access I suppose.

I don't have any of those, so it would be a large problem for me.

I have a smith who does that kind of things for me a few kilometers from me. Buahahaha. He also does awesome custom swords, knives and firearms but when I want a sword, I usually don't have the nerves to wait for something custom. And I never know what will I want a year or something from now.

well a replacement blade should not be needed unless you are doing a custom project and want to make your own. these swords shouldn't need a replacement blade. so think of it as an unmounted blade for D.I.Y.-ers
Tinker Pearce says all the new swords should have an appleseed "good" edge but he won't know until next week when his arrive.

I just hope that this continues; as I've said elsewhere I'd love to see many more bare blades offered. I just hope the production makers don't get a "hey, people are buying too many of these at lower cost" attitude and move away from it. I myself would much prefer any of the unmounted Hanwei Tinker blades than a mounted sword, but don't want them made unavailable before I can justify a purchase and the time to do a DIY. (Don't hate us for being DIYers!)

Last night I dreamed that I had the GSOW and that I reviewed it for SBG. Then I woke up.

Yes, he made some beautiful custom replicas of 17th, 18th and 19th century rifles and he also does modern hunting rifles. www.top-kristo.hr/index.htmlLook for "Proizvodi" (Products). You have category "noževi" (knives), "kubure" (guns), "puške" (rifles) and "ostalo" ("other", here you have a saber, yathagan, katana, cannons, crossbows...) Man is really an artist, his prices are much lower than in US and all his products are perfectly functional even if meant as wallhangers. Stuff on the site is a very small part of all the things he has done.

Wish I had a local gunsmith. I've always wanted a 17th century style pistol that fires a modern round.

I don't know. I like some characteristics of the GSOW, and some of the VA LS. This is one of those choices where I honestly don't know what to do. I think that the most logical thing to do in this situation is to wait for someone to review the GSOW, I just don't want to wait that long - although I will if I have to.

I did plan to buy the GSoW but I didn't plan to buy the Viking so I'm out of money right now. I planed to buy bare Del Tin 2070 blade and hilt it this spring but there were some problems, I waited long for the blade and it still didn't arrive so I snapped and bought the Hanwei Tinker Viking few weeks ago. With it I spent more money than I expected to and later then supposed so I'm not able to buy the GSoW right now when it became available as I planed. And I gave my Del Tin 2142 warsword for rehilting recently to look more like I wanted and I'm still waiting for it so it's not that I don't have a warsword niche filled.

I wonder if this sword will become a sort of cheaper alternative to Albion's Duke? It has the same blade type and pretty similar dimensions, except that its handle is about an inch and a half longer and is 10 ounces heavier than Albion's offering.

That is interesting, matt. Now that I think about it, I guess it does closely resember Albion's Duke, except maybe a little heavier.

Certainly yes for the people who are fans of the style but don't have money for an Albion. Myself included if I even manage to buy the GSoW in nearer future.
