Yeah, I tried cabela and it is SO going back. I actually saw that Psi-Ops game there, so I'll get that instead. Sounds fun! I got COD 3 based on Game spot's review. THEY liked it more than COD 2, but I'll have to get that too. I'm getting Resident Evil 4 tomorrow from a different store, because the Gamestop I went to didn't have it. Have you played that? It sounds kinda fun. -Slayer RE4 RAWKED; you HAVE to get that game...probably the greatest example of what the PS2 hardware is still capable of; the graphics are near next-gen in that particular game. Came out for the Gamecube first then got ported an freshened up for the PS2; by far, it was one of the best games on that system, top 5 in any rate. Kid...I wish I did still have that info written down somewhere, we could've compared notes...my barbarian chic would lay some serious smackdown; I don't think she was as high as 28k per strike though, I'm thinking probably less than 25k per but even at that rate, you're taking out every boss in the game within three blows. Sometimes I'd just strip off all her armor just to look at her...she had the perfect build! I probably shouldn't have shared that. LMAO It never occurred to me to keep those games because the PS3 would be backwards compatible...how dumb am I, right?

nope, we shall refer to it as the thing that should not be As to games with swords; onimusha diablo series rise and fall god of war series - although I have to say I liked the hammer more prototype - well there is a really big blade and did I mention blood?

I, for one, would pay extortionist amounts of money for a remake of this game.

Oh my, I appreciate everyone's response to this thread... I was kinda afraid of posting it at first since I thought I would be looked at as a video game nerd. Apparently, I'm not the only video game junkie on this forum... I don't think this was mentioned, but one of the best game that had a variety of swords and weapons was Final Fantasy 2 for the SNES (Final Fantasy IV). It had the "classic" RPG approach to weapons, you had a Fire, Blizzard, etc... It even had "Excalibur" if you knew how to unlock it... Not to mention tons of Fantasy/Medieval style armor, like the "Dark" armor and Kain's "Dragoon" armor which was way cool...

I prefer to be called a nerd, but that's only because I don't bite the heads off of live chickens. As for Final Fantasy, I just started playing through FF III for SNES again yesterday, hopefully I'll actually finish it this time.

Talk about a WASTE of effort!!! I played through RE5 3 times and am working my way thru the 4th play thru on Professional...I'm trying to get all gold stars across the board and those beasties move faster and take much more punishment. It got so that I'm walkin around with a RL just because its the only way I can make it through a board...

Would you say that the other RE's (1, 2, 3 and 5) are good enough that I should get them as well? RE 4 is really, really cool. In fact, it's one of my favorite games now. -Slayer

That looks, well, AWESOME. Going to have to pick it up when it comes out. Still waiting on Arkham Asylum...damn those delays. Combat has been getting really, really good in the videogame world lately. I'm stoked for leaving the "SPAM X BUTTON FOR THE KILL" days behind (days which I will remember fondly as I grow older).

I'm stoked too ;D. Apparrently it's supposed to have alot of ideas transferred over from Baldur's gate; things like queing up commands to your squad in real or paused time. Bioware FTW!

As for the other installments, including Veronica X and and Zero, well...personally, I would not get them. I've attempted to play them all but one thing I realized was that the static environments got old quickly. That is, your viewpoint will change (camera angle) but the environment would not- so if you're walking down a hallway and the camera angle changes, you'll have to change the way you're moving your character on the control pad because of the switchup in angles. That and your character couldn't walk/run very fast, ammo was always limited (in some cases, severely limited) and in all, it got to be very, VERY frustrating. I didn't fall in love until RE4 and that was when I got hooked.

I have to say Oblivion is probably the best sword game out there. However not because of its base design. If you do a simple web search for oblivion Mods you will come across a site called tesnexus. There thousands of fellow players who possess the skills have created tens of thouands of mods. Among them are several that take the core combat system of Oblivion to a level I doubt any other video game will compete with any time soon.
In my modded up version I can fight with two weapons, switch a one handed sword to two handed grip, or to my off hand and draw another, throw either hands weapon or item, kick while holding weapons, and if you have serious twitch reflexes you can even grab arrows out of the air. On top of the actual game play changes I have improved animations for jumping, flipping, tumbling, climbing ropes!(thats right a mod that gives you rope arrows you can actually climb up), Improved two weapon style animations, and maybe best of all with a mod called Unnecesarry Violence you even gain location based dmg. So if you sneak up on a guy and take your sword to thier skull they rarely stay standing.
So if your already a fan of Oblivion but have yet to explore modding it out go surfing for some and make a good game great!

I didn't fall in love until RE4 and that was when I got hooked. Gonna have to agree with that. The older RE's were good when they were relatively new. I remember when I was watching a cousin play it as a kid, I had nightmares for a month. Playing them now though ... is torture. I played 3 recently and... well, let's just say that I'm not touching it again. RE5 isnt as good as 4 in my opinion, cuz it just seems a lot shorter than 4. Then again, 4 was pretty long. Oh, and as cool as it is to have a partner, the game just isn't as scary with someone to back you up. Uh, Dragon Age, been waiting for that since they announced it. Love Bioware. They make the best rpgs in my opinion. Seriously, they could make a game that i would know nothing about and Id still buy it. KotOR is probably my favorite game of all time. Hm... sword games. Only thing i can think of that hasnt been mentioned (i think) is The Witcher (on the PC). Its a fantasy rpg with a sorta top-down 3rd person view (you can change it to 3rd person over the shoulder). The combat's like most other rpgs where you click on the enemy and your character attacks it automatically, but you can time clicks to do combos and whatnot. But the story is pretty much where its at for that game. Basically youre a really cool albino lookin guy who kills monsters. That was probably the worst description ever lol. You can choose different paths to take, and all of the decisions are kinda morally ambiguous. nothings just plain good or bad. Theres a bit of backtracking though, if i remember correctly, which I do not like at all. ...Which reminds me of how I really hated that in DMC4 when you play as Dante you're just going through the levels youve already played, but backwards. Wow, this post is just everywhere.

skytomcar - that's nice (Oblivion mods) but not everyone has the time nor inclination to go through all of that.
Personally, I like for my games to be great out of the box. Don't get me wrong, Oblivion's a great game, it ate up hundreds of hours of my free time, but the combat was lackluster, at least the melee portion of it. Spells and the like were great fun.

Yeah, I found the spells in Oblivion more fun than I did in morrowind.
Anyway, I've recently discovered a free MMO called Archlord that is actually pretty decent, and worth a try.

I didn't get much action out of the spells in Oblivion, but I demolished Balmora in one hit with a fire spell in Morrowind...Once you hit level 150, the game just gets tiresome. If Oblivion magic is more fun....I'll have to force myself to get back into it.
