Bet Mr. Gall gets it too...especially with the more advanced parkour mechanics (Slayer, did I tell you that free-running across rooftops is more fun than in any game I've ever played to date?); increased weapon sets (halberds, pikes and certain gunpowder type weapons will be intro'd) You know it! I am back playing the first one these past couple weeks so i can get back into the "feel" of the game. I love the new counters, (disarm & attack) and the usual parry & attack that the first one had. Plus! 2 hidden blades now = sweet!

Yep, that's a BIG reason why I want a XBox 360 instead of just an XBox. I get Game Informer magazine, and when I saw the 6 page article about AC2 a few months ago, I nearly fainted. Can you say, 'perfect game'? ;D I gave you a pretty comprehensive list; you've played all of those? Actually, I haven't played ANY of them, except for the LoTR ones (which I hated, even though I love the movies and books). I was just asking in case anyone else knew of even more 'must-gets'. ;D I'll be going to Gamestop this weekend with a $45 budget, so I'm going to try to clear them out of 5 or so used games of the ones you mentioned. Those two Gladiator ones sound REALLY fun, along with DevilMayCry. Just a quick question; of the games you mentioned, if I could only get 5, which would be your top pics? Thanks for all the help! -Slayer

I know the feeling, I only buy a couple of new games a year so all the ones I have have been played very many times, which gets a little old. Way of the Samurai and Way of the Samurai 2 that I mentioned are pretty darn good, and very entertaining. Kinda short, since they're meant to be played over and over for you to get all the 5 or 6 endings each one has, but it doesn't get old too quickly. Also, Seven Samurai 20XX is... interesting. As the name implies it's basically Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai but in the future, and the plot doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it's still fun and has a great visual style.
I don't think anyone mentioned Shadow of the Colossus, which I guess is fairly different for a "sword" game since it's basically just exploring and boss fights, but it's an awful lot of fun to try to kill these massive creatures with just a bow and a sword. It's also the most visually stunning and artistically done game I've ever played, so that gets a high recommendation from me.

Ah, yes. Good ol' Shadow of the Colossus. That was one of the very first PS2 Games I got, and I love it. That reminds me... I actually haven't finished it, lol. VERY stunning graphics, and it has some fun 'side quests' to boost your stats. You know, catching the white-tailed lizards and finding fruit trees? The only thing I don't like about SoTC is that it feels so... lonely. I don't know, call me weird. Things like that actually matter to me a bit. Like, I can't play that game for a few hours a day, a few days in a row without getting lonely and wanting to go hang out with friends. Call me crazy. ;D Anyway, thanks for reminding me about that game, it sure is one of the greats. +1. I really want to get those Way of the Samurai games. I looked 'em up on Gamespot and they look awesome. ;D -Slayer

Just be warned that everyone in Way of the Samurai 2 sounds like they're from Texas. Why is it so hard to get decent voice acting in games?
I agree with what you mean about SotC being lonely feeling, and I first I didn't like it, but it seems to me that it's an important part of the overall feel of the game, that not only are you going after these massive things, but you're doing so completely and utterly alone.

All this talk reminds me, one of these days after winning the Powerball I need to get some Baldur's Gate weapons made like the Equalizer, the Blade of Roses, the Short Sword of Backstabbing ....
Huge BG fan and so is the wife (for the PC). Now that we also have an Xbox 360 (mostly so I can watch Netflix play instant movies on my TV) we're both Devil May Cry addicts... Haven't had a chance to pick up Assassin's Creed yet though.

Thanks for all the help! -Slayer Top 5 - ok, lets get a nice rounded pkg together, shall we? 1. Champions of Norrath - this is a great one to start with, it'll keep you going for hours upon hours of grinding for loot, levelling up and of all the action/RPGs out there, it is the most comprehensive for the PS2. Up until I sold my PS2, I kept my Level 50 Barbarian Warrior chic on a memory card; she had the Beast Plate Mail and some awesome weaponry that escapes me offhand. Great game. 2. Bushido Blade - this is as realistic as it's going to get with regard to sword play; a number of differing weapons to choose from (katana, naginata, spears, polearms, etc) with somewhat accurate depictions of the different fighting styles with those weapons. You gotta have at least one samurai game, this is it. 3. Shadow of Rome - gladiatorial combat with an intriguing story line/premise- you'll have a blast pulling off string combos and watching the blood just GUSH as you cut off arms, legs, heads or sever a person in half. There are some really cool, off the wall weapons to be had and your character has the ability to wield them all very well. It is set just after Caesar's assassination in Rome so if you like that sort of thing, this is a must have. (4 and 5 would've been the LOTR: TT and LOTR: ROTK games by EA- and ONLY those games feature hack and slash gameplay; the first one was made by someone else (FOTR) and it sucked; the subsequent offerings are all RTS if I'm not mistaken and/or MMO- why didn't you like them?) 4 - Prince of Persia - it might not look like your type of game but it is action packed and the titular Prince is an elite swordsman, you'll have fun. 5 - Soulcalibur III - because every collection has to have a beat'm-up style game, sword games are no different. Way over the top, but that's what makes it fun. Get that X360!!! But until then, you should be able to pick up at least two or three of these for at or around $45; PS2 games seem to still be in some demand. If you had the old XBOX, you could get nearly 30 games for that same price, because its been discontinued. Let us know what you get!

Thanks, man. I had a PoP for the wii and I LOVED it. I didn't know that there were PS2 versions. I actually haven't played LoTR: RoTK, but I have played the Two Towers and I thought it was boring. Of course, that was the gamecube version, so they may be different. Since I assumed that RoTK would be along the lines of the Two Towers, I marked it off as well. My sister's boyfriend has them, though, so I'll see if I can borrow the PS2 version. Those first three will be at the top of my list, though. They sound fun. ;D I'm not really concerned about getting any more traditional 'hack and slash' type games, where your enemies don't bleed, they just die and 'disapear', because I already have all 5 Dynasty Warriors games, plus Samurai Warriors, just for good measure. I must've killed upwards of 100,000 enemies in Samurai Warriors alone. VERY fun games, though. Now just to wait for saturday to get Champions of Norrath... -Slayer

I don't do the 'no blood' thing either; if there's no blood, I'm not happy. That's why the latest PoP for the PS3 blew chunks as far as I was concerned; no one died! You couldn't die, your partner couldn't die and none of your enemies died and there was NO BLOOD at all. After a solid 20 minutes of fights with no blood and no death, it got old. I even tried suicide by jumping off a cliff but your partner saves you EVERY time. Takes the fun out of it if I know beforehand I can't be killed; like playing on godmode but w/out the fun.
Champions is a hack and slash but it is hardly bloodless; in fact, sustain enough damage and you may see rents in your armor (I think it does this, I seem to remember it anyways) and on your person. Ok, maybe not, but there's blood, I"m sure of it. Also, you might want to get the sequel, Champions: Return to Arms because you can level even higher and there are two additional character races to make a total of 7. I think you'll love it, man!
All this talk has me thinking I might need to acquire a PS2 just for some of these classic greats- can't get them on PS3 or X360.

Can't the PS3 play PS2 games? Well, I've had my 'little' trip to Gamestop, and here's what I ended up with. a bunch of them are shooters, but that's just because I haven't been allowed to play shooting games until recently, so I'm kind of 'trigger-happy'. ;D Way of the Samurai 1 Dragon Quest: VIII Red Faction II Final Fantasy XII Shadow of Rome Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition (the SE isn't quite so incredibly hard, and has a few extra side quests, from what I know) Call of Duty 3 Cabela's Dangerous Hunts (Please understand that I ABHOR hunting. I even felt a little bit remorseful at buying a hunting game. However, it's been highly recommended to me and sounds fun. Still... ) Yep, all that. Count 'em. 10 games, and I got them all for $65. I went a bit over my budget, but I'm pleased with my 'haul'. Part of the reason I got such a good deal was that gamestop was having a Buy 2 get 1 free' sale on PS2 games. This meant that I got three of those games free. Any input on the games on this list that have not been mentioned already? Even if they're not sword-related, likes/dislikes/tips/etc.? Thanks, guys! ;D -Slayer

Slayer, try eBay for the Champions of Norrath- you'd be hard pressed to find it in a brick and mortar store...that's a popular game STILL. Hell, in the last 5 years I've seen only 3 copies of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and only ONE copy of BG:DA2 - it was a better game than the previous one.
Oh, one other game I thought you might like:
Psi-Ops: the Mindgate Conspiracy - you have mental powers (telekinesis, remote viewing, pyrokinesis and some more) - its like being able to control the force like a Jedi. With more cool stuff...its an action/shooter but I found that I didn't need or use guns once you gain mastery over your powers. Way more fun to suck the psionic life force outta someone and watch their head explode as they plead nononononononoooooooo BOOM, red mess everywhere! Lifting people and throwing them against walls or across whole rooms is always awesome fun! Check it out; it was probably the most underrated game when it first came out- no one I know has played it!
You're right, but I think there's something you need to download/install in order to play PS2 games...if I'm mistaken and I need nothing, someone please tell me now so I can go on the hunt like Slayer!
If you don't care for hunting, you might not like the Cabela game...I found it incredibly boring myself, but I'm not a hunter either. That's hardly sporting if you ask me.
The rest of the games you got are all good...COD3 isn't as good as COD2: Big Red One, however- COD3 is a bit on the short side and kinda basic in gameplay; in BRO there were different elements, like bombing raids (you actually have to roll the bombs out of a stuck bay door and make the target), tankgunning, tail gunner in an aerial dogfight (very, very cool) featuring a number of squadrons in the air, as well as the usual squad-based tactics. If you can find COD2: BRO, get that one, its more fun.
Either way, you've got plenty of games to take up your time- I don't understand why more people don't play. lol

Yeah, I tried cabela and it is SO going back. I actually saw that Psi-Ops game there, so I'll get that instead. Sounds fun! I got COD 3 based on Game spot's review. THEY liked it more than COD 2, but I'll have to get that too. I'm getting Resident Evil 4 tomorrow from a different store, because the Gamestop I went to didn't have it. Have you played that? It sounds kinda fun. -Slayer

The older models of PS3 could play PS2 games, but the new PS3s can't. My understanding of it is that the chipset they use is so different that the PS2 hardware is required in addition to the PS3 hardware, which is a large part of why PS3s were so expensive when they came out - they had all the PS2 hardware as well. To lower prices, they stopped making them with the PS2 hardware. They can emulate the PS1 using software, but as far as I know there's no way to do a software emulation for a PS2 on a PS3, so you either need an older model PS3 or an actual PS2.
And that's probably more description than anyone really needed.

Ebon, shame you don't still have a PS2, I'd love to hear what kind of stats and equipment you ended up with, not to mention what kind of damage you deal while using Critical Hit/Ancestral Call/Slam combo. I've also got a lvl50 Barbarian, with two Kylong Hunting Knives as short blades, both with godly speed and I believe crit bonuses. I've got almost full Dark Scale Mail (grinding on champion level Innoruuk is...blah) with str/dex bonuses. I deal about 28k damage per hit with the combo. Man, now I have this itch to play.

Quick question; Is Champions of Norrath: Realms of Everquest the first one? that's all Gamestop has listed on their site, but I don't want to order it if it's the sequel... Thanks, guys! ;D -Slayer

Yes, that is the first one. I doubt you could find too many copies of the sequel. I had to drive for an hour and pay 30 dollars for a used copy.
