Zelda: Ocarina of Time was what brought about my interest in swords, so I see where you're coming from wanting a usable replica. I did for quite some time when I was younger. Right now, though, I'm happy with my single jian. It is a great sword.

Haha, Thanks for the comment Berethorn, yeah I certainly went as functional as I could, I agree it could definitely look more like the original game version but when I started off like this I found I liked it too much to make any changes haha! thanks for the info on Gimp too, I am getting it as we speak, Paint was my first forray into digital image creation, so it feels so easy and quick to hand, so it makes for a good design thrower upper, Haha, I wouldn't mind getting something like it made in the years to come, would look cool with a functional version of the shield too. -Reisz Always happy to point people out to GIMP! MS Paint was my first foray into computer drawing, but that was 15 years ago (woah...). I don't know if I'd have the patience now. I used Inkscape for the sword I made - it's another completely free program, but for vector drawing (like Adobe Illustrator). This works well for swords as you can change the shape of and move around the separate parts. I suggest you try it out because it is also quite fun to use. Enough about computers! I know there have been Hylian shields made, but I can't say if they're functional or not. The term functional is a bit more ambiguous for shields since you aren't likely to carry it into battle. Though fiberglass isn't exactly historical (hey, maybe that's what the Hylians used?), there's this one: www.trueswords.com/deluxe-hylian-shield-replica-p-2905.html

I was getting ready to reply about Hylian shields and then realized, Berethorn had already addressed it. My cousin wants one of those.

well the hylians are capable of strapping a bomb to an arrow and then firing it and making a grappling hook with some sort of turbo powered winch to lift a human very quickly on to buildings and the like then theres the fact that while wearing mega ton boots link is some how still capable of a backflip Im pretty sure hylian technology is far above out own

Bren wouldn't make this sword due to the double fullers, he hates doing fullers cause he feels he never gets them right. Interesting concept though.

LOL
Now that you mention it, that is the one running theme I noticed but didn't- none of his blades are fullered. None that I can remember.

Hey Thanks Bllodwraith, Yeah you're right I just had another quick browse of fable blades and none are fullered that are on there right now, I imagine that has something to do with his stock removal Method? I can't picture how one would go about creating a wide/deep fuller with stock removal, guess I am blanking out. Still it can't be easy, Maybe I should put up a diamond cross section version, or a beveled version for him.. hmmm hold that thought........ there we go Man I really like that diamond cross section one, although the beveled looks more like the sword from the source material. -Reisz

I really like your new designs! Fantastic! The hex section looks nicer, but I bet the diamond is a bit more functional, due to less weight. But fantastic blade design!

I actually think I like that new design better that the old - and I agree with Seth about the blade pattern. I almost want to have another go at a vector design, but done like yours, Reisz, if you don't mind. Might get around to it.

Hey thanks for all the kind words guys, Yeah I am really liking this more and more now that the fuller's out, I think if there was enough Distal taper and the blade was thin enough I am sure the Hexagonal x-section could work just fine, Either way It would be cool to see put together, If only I had the skill and the tools! haha,
Berethorn I'd be honored! I had a go with some vector stuff yesterday, That's pretty cool, I like the flexibility, but yeah you are most welcome, see what you can come up with, I'd love to see it.
-Reisz
post script: might do a scabbard later too if the mood strikes me, although I don't believe the current version has many problems with functionality, Haha.

Awesome, thanks, I've had some fun with this today. It looks 100 times better than my first version did. I love the blades you designed, and I think I prefer your guard as well, although I can't quite figure out how it would be in 3D. I could actually send you the vector file if you feel like playing around with what I've done already.

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, it looks like a two handed sword. I would prefer it to be hand and a half, but that's just me. Anyways, those are really cool designs. Great job man. Maybe I should try my hand at my own interpretation? This is giving me inspiration to do so. (Also, it may give me a design before hand for when I get my custom sword done, later in life. )

Thanks! Go ahead, make some of your own, it's fun and as you say could be useful someday. I would want hand and a half too...might have to adjust it a bit.

I was too lazy to make my own. So here is my remake (Shorter handle, bigger pommel, smaller guard) of the original, edited with paint. Excuse the crap quality. ;D This is merely to give an idea of what I might go for.

with berethorns redesigns I definitely like the diamond way more and I think that the different guards works because I think the heavier gaurd would work better with the cross style for balance
