That sword doesn't look terribly complicated. I would imagine any custom maker could do that for $1500-$1700.
Fantasy swords are like high end cars, one guys Bugatti is another guys "Eww, I wouldn't drive that ugly thing around".

Ask DSA if they would make it. They've done LotR requests.

I already did. They do not wish to make their name affiliated with Zelda and many other Fantasy games. I was saddened.

Haha! Couldn't they just pretend they never made it? They don't even have to put a maker's mark on it.

Who knows what they'll do in time; right now tho, I think they're trying to make their niche in the 'realistic' collector's market (they're already renowned in the sword and board ranks); maybe they'll add fantasy to their lineup later on; as some have said, they've done some LOTR renditions.

I think this sword shouldn't be all that difficult to manufacture. I can't speak for the blade, but the fittings are the complicated part. They needn't be exactly like in the game though - I wouldn't mind seeing someone do their own interpretation of the guard in a more realistic, less "plastic" and bulky style. Here's something I whipped up in vector, using as reference but not totally replicating a version of the Master Sword I found online.

I played Link...it was a fun game but it did nothing to spark my interest in swords...it was too basic for all of that. And I'm speaking of the NES version...the last one I played. Long time ago. There are copies that ARE affordable...functional seems to be something altogether different.

Yeah, I picked one up for $30 or so just for display purposes. A functional one would be nice, but they might have to make some design changes for the weight and balance to be decent.

It is a pretty unique blade. I've played the original, and a few others on the NES. I agree, Brendan would make a really cool version of this sword...it's just a matter of time and money!
We are all entitled to our opinions. If I absolutely don't like a sword that's posted, I refrain from commenting (at least negatively). I have made a few posts that describe my feelings on particular parts of a sword...but I won't say that it's horribly ugly or anything of the sort Best of luck to you my friend.

It is definatly one of the most popular video game swords of all time. and the the first zelda (NES version) would be very hard to spark any interest in swords. you would have to play a more recent zelda like OOT and yes I know there are afordable ones. I own one. One can only hope for both...afordable and funtional

I would not say most popular. One of the most popular though. This is coming from a die hard zelda fan too.

I saw this thread when it first came up, and thought about redesigning a functional master sword, then Saw Berethons very cool vector rendition and comment and decided to hit up MS Paint and get my redesign done, So this is a couple of hours listening to music and looking at references I gave it a pommel that would facilitate a two handed grip better, gave it some spacers cause we all know how much link likes to swing that puppy around with one hand, and deepened the bevel so it would cut better than the sword shaped axe it was before, threw in the deep, fuller and some distal taper and voila! done. I used the twilight princess version as my main reference because it seemed more functional from the get go. Hope you like! -Reisz post script: It of course would need to be far less thick of blade to be properly balanced but you lose the details in paint when you go too thin, haha.

Good job (you did that in Paint? Wow...you should download GIMP - it's free)! I like how you've taken more liberties than I did with your design and changed some things up to aid functionality. Personally I think the guard could still be bigger (the wings taller, if not thicker), if the weight wasn't a problem. I like the grip spacers too. And I'm still impressed you did that in Paint. All in all that would be a sweet sword to own, wouldn't it?

Haha, Thanks for the comment Berethorn, yeah I certainly went as functional as I could, I agree it could definitely look more like the original game version but when I started off like this I found I liked it too much to make any changes haha!
thanks for the info on Gimp too, I am getting it as we speak, Paint was my first forray into digital image creation, so it feels so easy and quick to hand, so it makes for a good design thrower upper, Haha,
I wouldn't mind getting something like it made in the years to come, would look cool with a functional version of the shield too.

Hey Reisz! Nice rendition of the sword. I'm amazed that you were able to do that in paint! It almost looks like a blade within a blade...way cool! ;D
