Hey fellow sword enthusiasts, I'm sure most of the veteran sword buyers on here have already figured this out, it may even seem obvious to some of you, but I got to find it out the HARD way. I bought 2 swords from wiwingti on april 7, he gave me an awesome deal, they were both musha class dynasty forge blades, one the standard no-hi musha, and the other the shobu, he sold them both to me for $490 shipped, I'm sure everyone can agree that's one heck of a deal. The problem is, I forgot to ask him to use UPS instead of usps. He shipped it on April 17th, it arrived in Jersey City NJ on April 23rd and that is where it is still sitting. It has now been there for going on 9 days with no sign that it's going to move anytime soon, I even called usps and they said there was nothing they could do, and they didn't know where it is; then I called the Jersey city post office, and told her I needed to figure out where this package was, she said she didn't know and hung up on me. I guess that's government for ya. Anyway, has anyone had to deal with this? Is there an ancient Chinese secret to getting your mail past Customs? Or am I doomed to wait till my rusted blades finally arrive weeks late? (sorry if i seem so whiney, it's just been a long wait folks )

i've always used usps to ship stuff to people and have had almost all my stuff sent to me through usps and never had any kind of problems... the only time i had probelms was when a sword was sent to me UPS and the box was banged to hell but even then the sword wasn't harmed. but never ever had problems with USPS

Did your shipments have to cross any borders? Mine originated in Canada.

Maybe it is just bad luck, but I've never had any luck with usps's tracking system, the only time it ever updates is a few days AFTER I get the package delivered... I know that isn't a fluke.

Which shipping method are you using? Registered Air? EMS?
I constantly have packages shipped to me from Japan via EMS and USPS takes care of that once it lands here, and I've found the service as well as tracking to be exceptional at its worst.
Try calling again and see if you can't get somebody willing to give you some information. Hopefully your shipment is insured.

Ah, Priority gets tricky sometimes. As long as it's insured, though, it should be fine.
I once ordered something to be sent overnight, but somehow a friend's address was in my browser history and I didn't think to check, so it went to him. Got there in a day, but he sent it to me by Priority and it took four weeks and they told me I owed money for shipping when it got here.
Unfortunately my mother was the one to actually receive the package; I'd have argued. Priority Mail shouldn't take four weeks and I certainly don't intend to pay extra when it does.

Well it depends on where you live. For me USPS is reliable and friendly...UPS is a crapshoot.

Your parcels might be just sitting there awaiting customs inspection.
Shipping parcels up to Canada from the U.S. using USPS they will stop at a customs inspection warehouse for at LEAST 24 hours before moving on (I've had parcels sit awaiting inspection for up to a month and my aunt up to 6 months for store stock).
Personally I've never had a problem with your USPS getting things shipped up here!

Shadowhowler and I used USPS priority just a few months ago and we had zero problems. Granted, we are only a state away from each other.

I used to work for USPS... so I'll field this a bit. If you use anything other then the highest levels of shipping (IE: The most expensive) then tracking threw USPS is worthless. I have NEVER been able to get ANY tracking info from USPS when I ship priority until AFTER the item is delivered. Also... sometimes stuff does get 'boged down' at the mail hubs. I'm guessing Jersey City is one such hub. Now.. crossing boarders... that I don't know as much about... but it can get tricky no matter what service you use depending on the country and their practices. I use USPS sometimes... mostly when shipping overseas because internationaly it's the best deal... domesticly UPS is often cheaper, and their tracking works a lot better. Anyway... I wish you the best of luck with your package. I feel for you.

I've never had any delay problems with USPS, but once I ordered a textbook online and they folded it in half to shove it into the mailbox, in the process tearing the packaging so much that I didn't need to do any more tearing to get the book out. Thankfully it was a softcover book, but it was still pretty rumpled up. Most stuff I get is UPS and I've never had any real problems with them.

I have never had a problem with getting things shipped to me using USPS. The last item I had shipped i was able to track well enough to know exactly when it arrived at my local post office. The only problem I keep having is the jerks at Canada Border Services ( formerly Canada Customs ) tearing open my boxes, messing with the contents and then inadequately repacking and resealing the box. I can just picture them in the warehouse on the night shift playing Darth Vader with my much anticipated and precious new sword.

I've done quite a bit of shipping and receiving of stuff--most of it a lot more delicate than swords (statues-comic and movie related). Priority mail is the way to go unless the item is really, really big. 85% of the damaged items I've received came via ups.
I learned UPS will use something called "logical tacking". What this means is the tracking program tells you where it should logically be in the system. This was explained to me when I called them to find out about a package that was listed as "out for delivery" that needed to be diverted to a new address. They couldn't find it and the operator went into the system and found that the last "physical scan" was in Illinois (I'm in California) and that the package was still there. After a while (a day or two as I recall) the tracking info was updated and a few days later the package arrived pretty beat beat up.

Your parcels might be just sitting there awaiting customs inspection. I also agree that this might be the problem ! I don't know how it works between Canada and the US but in Europe, Customs can "get you into curtains" with their delays ! I have received items from the States to my address which through "tracking" I know had arrived within a mere three days at "Customs" ... there they kept it for almost three weeks !! FRUSTRATING I can assure you. The items "always" got delivered eventually though, with of course in most cases ... an import tax ! So I think it's just a matter off being patient ... Good Luck !
