In what context would the European longsword be used in other than war or duels? Normal self defense weapons were arming swords, messers (in Germanic areas) and dagger as I understand it.
I just don't see unarmored longsword context being normal accept for duels. Am I wrong? I assume I am and want your inputs!

For a first pole arm, I would suggest the Windlass/MRL Long-Bladed Hewing spear. It's big, badass, cheap, and easy to mount on the long shafts that KoA sells. I mounted mine on a short shaft with a butt cap for weight. Awesome spear! My next recommendation would be a Cold Steel Warhammer. They have'em on Amazon.com right now, cheap and free shipping. You'll have to assemble it, but it's not hard. They also have the CS Viking axe at a good price. I'm a bit weary of cold steel but I do have a warhammer. The brand escapes me atm though. But ty for the spear recommendation! I'll look into it for sure.

It's a good sword! And I agree, I actually handled the Norman earlier today (playing war games at that friends house ) and the pommel kept digging into my wrist even though I kept it in a draw cutting motion. Maybe I used it wrong? Idk but, I prefer my wheel pommel. And I'd love to get into polearms! I just dont have any I have a spear with a foam tip for sparring and that's it. This is how it started for me, too. Get yourself a second one, your buddy off the couch and the fun on. There are quite a few nice polearms worth trying out there. Gotta say I`m also still new to the subject. What pole arms do you have?

Welcome to the forum, spikeynorman47. I heard good things about the Hanwei medieval one-handed sword. Had the norman for a short while and it was a good sword, just wasn't too comfortable with the hilt resp. pommel. My favorite sword is a modified Windlass 1840 nco, though nowadays I seem to enjoy polearms even more than swords. It's a good sword! When you say 'H/T arming sword', I presume you mean the 'Early Medieval Single Hander' ? Yep...nice ones, those H/T's. Give the H/T Norman a go. You'll love it. And, hey....The name....Norman....you can't lose! But really, the Norman is a cutting beast. Not much really to look at, and the scabbard sucks, but it's worth every penny. You want to up your game and go Viking....Hanwei Cawood, baby, ...all the way. NICE sword! ....Chris Haha I have this one kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SH2404 And my friend has the H/T Norman and it's amazing. I really enjoyed using it in my crusade against water bottles and 28Shadow I have the Roven as well! I like it, but I'd prefer a longer handle on it.

Hello Norman - and welcome. My favorite European blades are a H/T Bastard sword that I've had customized, and a type XVIa ATrim that I own - and my favorite Japanese blade would need to be a (unfortunately discontinued) SlavEdge Swordwords Katsujinken. Have you done any custom work with your arming sword? No I haven't done any custom work. I have no idea how to do anything other than cut bottles yet I'd like to one day own the albion reeve. But hey a man can dream lol I'd love to do custom work if I could!

Just checking in and saying hello! New to the sword collecting community thought I've been collecting for awhile. My favorite sword I own so far is H/T arming sword.
So I was just saying hi and wondering what's your favorite in your collections?!
Looking forward to being a part of an awesome group!
