Thank you, Andi. Now I`m eager to compare the Norman to the H/T EMSHS, which should arrive in a few days. Another experience you have ahead of me, and which I`m looking very much forward to. OHH do let me know how the EMSHS compares to the Ulfberth. I have handled the ulfberth and was very fond of it. Haven't had the pleasure of meeting the EMSHS yet.

Just got Bryan's package out of customs and must say I could not be happier with the swords. The scabbard, too – awesome piece of work. Also gotta say that although Bryan’s Ulfberht is by far the nicest and most nimble of all exemplars I had, the Norman tops it by miles, in aesthetics, and even more in handling. Does your Norman happen to be un-sharpened for about a quarter of the blade (down from the cross-guard)? Mine is, and I was wondering if it's just the one I have or if all models were like that....

That's typical for those H/Ts, my Norman is only butterknife sharp there, my EMSHS was blunt there but I sharpened it a bit. It's a feature I think, a tougher parrying zone or for halfswording, like on many sabers.

My Norman came butterknife sharp all along the blade. I think it had some work done to it, though. Okay, thanks for the info.

Got the EMSHS today and like it – a lot. It didn't give me the "wow"-feeling from the start, but hands down it must be the best “allrounder” I had yet. Light, nimble and powerful. One advantage the Ulfberht has is that its low pob and pronounced pommel shape allows for different manipulations of the blade, quick deceleration and changes of direction. I’m pretty sure I`d prefer the EMSHS in most circumstances, though. It doesn`t tire you out as quick, and has a better thrusting point, which can come in handy. Its grip is indeed a bit thin, but as always, some tennis grip tape is of help. Mine also came with a twisted pommel (twisted clockwise – I’m a right-hander, so I guess I’ll not be able to fully relate to Roland Warzecha’s observations on twisted pommels very soon). But it’s all good, I don’t feel much of a difference for now. And considering the discount I got this for, I can live with the aesthetics. Will add some pics and stats tomorrow. If it's twisted just let out the hex nut a bit, move it to your preffered position, then tighten it down. I fixed mine that way.

Mine was disassembled after 5 min. only because it's possible. Twisted pommel sounds strange to me. At my EMSHS the keyhole in the pommel for the tang (the broad end part before the thread) is grounded straight and I see no way it could not be centered.

Nice matching shields 'n' swords and the H/T really needs a thicker handle. Could you fix the pommel?

That's bad, but on the pictures the misalignement doesn't look dramatic.

Ok, really on the heavier side, because it's an enormous blade for a onehander. But broad and thin, an oversized late viking/saxon sword. Tbh I don't know if Hanwei made changes in the blade since I bought my Witham 2012. But mine's still my preciousssss. The two SBG reviews were 100 % true. You seem to have a similar taste so I wanted to give you a hint.

Mine has a Hanwei Cromwell sized hole in the moment. (At least we're not talking about x kilobucks customs or nihonto)

Very nice frontier armoury!!! 2nd pic: You enhanced a bowie machete?
I'm thinking of such handle protection/grip on my warhammer because I don't want to drill holes/screws into the handle. Unfortunately I'm not very skilled in such things, I thank god a hammer doesn't need sharpening! (More and more I think of Pgandy's spike hawk with the longer hammer handle ...)

Cool! Nice hamon and tsuka-ito on the cutlass machete! (When my TacKat Machete arrives I perhaps try to make a fake hamon) I removed the black coating on my Cutlass Machete completely with a bitumen/wax solvent and a sanding sponge and sanded the blade to a nice grey satin finish. All started with sharpening the false edge of the clip point, now rather a spear point. But I can't stand unsharpened false edges.
