What everyone has said so far... the Ronin is a much better sword in comparison to the "Damascus" SLO (Sword Like Object). Here's a pretty good first timer's Buyer's Guide[/u][/url] from SBG.

Fantastic! Glad you were able to do that. My brother and I (combined) own all of their original novels along with the Death Gate Cycle. Truly great writers. Anyway, hope you have a great time on the forum.

Welcome aboard Flint! How's Tas? Still being a doorknob of a kender? You've probably guessed that Dragonlance was and still is one of my favorite series of fantasy novels.

Any oil should be good... one caveat though, don't overdo it since too much oil can actually attract dirt/other particles into the saya/scabbard, which can cause problems down the road. You can make your own Choji oil as well using mineral (or camellia oil - more traditional) and clove oils... here's the recipe link sbgswordforum.proboards.com/thread/2448You can also try to remove the black spots using regular aluminum foil paper and water - crush the foil into a small ball, and with a little bit of water, rub the ball on the "rust spots". Before you do that though, check to see if the spots aren't pinholes, since those are potentially weak spots on the sword. If they are pinholes, I would suggest you contact the seller and see if you can get a replacement sword.

As long as the polishing mentioned in the OP is kept to repros from China or other countries and not any real nihonto or antiques, you don't have anything to worry about.

Yep, gotten a few things from Fallen, all excellent... even my wife ( very picky) loved the wrench knife I got from him (still need to post pictures!). Definitely a great craftsman and good communications with him as well.

Just a quick note: the new CS SanMai tantos use a different steel than from a few years ago. The older models used to be made out of VG10, while the new models are made from VG1... they're both good steels (comparable in edge retention), but the VG10 was superior since it has a finer grain structure and resists chipping more so than VG1. "The amount of Vanadium in VG10 (0.2%) is not enough to affect the wear resistance. It is there to produce a finer grain structure. Moly (1% in VG10 vs. 0.3% in VG1)does form carbides and it increases the corrosion resistance. I do not know the effect of the difference between the amounts in these two alloys. Cobalt is said to increase alloy strength. Nickel toughens an alloy But both are 1% Carbon ~15% Chromium alloys. " www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/737006-VG1-vs-VG10
